A new production component method for natural gas development planning

Based on an analysis of the limitations of conventional production component methods for natural gas development planning,this study proposes a new one that uses life cycle models for the trend fitting and prediction of production.In this new method,the annual production of old and new wells is predicted by year first and then is summed up to yield the production for the planning period.It shows that the changes in the production of old wells in old blocks can be fitted and predicted using the vapor pressure model(VPM),with precision of 80%e95%,which is 6.6%e13.2%higher than that of other life cycle models.Furthermore,a new production prediction process and method for new wells have been established based on this life cycle model to predict the production of medium-to-shallow gas reservoirs in western Sichuan Basin,with predication error of production rate in 2021 and 2022 being 6%and 3%respectively.The new method can be used to guide the medium-and long-term planning or annual scheme preparation for gas development.It is also applicable to planning for large single gas blocks that require continuous infill drilling and adjustment to improve gas recovery. 展开更多

Machine learning inspired workflow to revise field development plan under uncertainty

We present an efficient and risk-informed closed-loop field development (CLFD) workflow for recurrently revising the field development plan (FDP) using the accrued information. To make the process practical, we integrated multiple concepts of machine learning, an intelligent selection process to discard the worst FDP options and a growing set of representative reservoir models. These concepts were combined and used with a cluster-based learning and evolution optimizer to efficiently explore the search space of decision variables. Unlike previous studies, we also added the execution time of the CLFD workflow and worked with more realistic timelines to confirm the utility of a CLFD workflow. To appreciate the importance of data assimilation and new well-logs in a CLFD workflow, we carried out researches at rigorous conditions without a reduction in uncertainty attributes. The proposed CLFD workflow was implemented on a benchmark analogous to a giant field with extensively time-consuming simulation models. The results underscore that an ensemble with as few as 100 scenarios was sufficient to gauge the geological uncertainty, despite working with a giant field with highly heterogeneous characteristics. It is demonstrated that the CLFD workflow can improve the efficiency by over 85% compared to the previously validated workflow. Finally, we present some acute insights and problems related to data assimilation for the practical application of a CLFD workflow. 展开更多

The system portfolio selection is a fundamental frontier issue in the development planning and demonstration of weapon equipment.The scientific and reasonable development of the weapon system portfolio is of great significance for optimizing the design of equipment architecture,realizing effective resource allocation,and increasing the campaign effectiveness of integrated joint operations.From the perspective of system-ofsystems,this paper proposes a unified framework called structure-oriented weapon system portfolio selection(SWSPS)to solve the weapon system portfolio selection problem based on structural invulnerability.First,the types of equipment and the relationship between the equipment are sorted out based on the operation loop theory,and a heterogeneous combat network model of the weapon equipment system is established by abstracting the equipment and their relationships into different types of nodes and edges respectively.Then,based on the combat network model,the operation loop comprehensive evaluation index(OLCEI)is introduced to quantitatively describe the structural robustness of the combat network.Next,a weapon system combination selection model is established with the goal of maximizing the operation loop comprehensive evaluation index within the constraints of capability requirements and budget limitations.Finally,our proposed SWSPS is demonstrated through a case study of an armored infantry battalion.The results show that our proposed SWSPS can achieve excellent performance in solving the weapon system portfolio selection problem,which yields many meaningful insights and guidance to the future equipment development planning. 展开更多

The Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs)of the United Nations 2030 Agenda are a key focus for implementing the Sustainable Development(SD)concept.But generally speaking,SD goals and targets are continuously evolving,country specific,complex to implement,and are often given relatively short time horizons,such as the 15-year horizon for the SDGs.Many SD issues need a much longer time horizon as the policy interventions to deal with these issues can take decades before their effects become apparent,which is especially true for China.The T21 China 2050 is developed to study the long-term SD challenges and opportunities of the country.In its business-as-usual simulation to 2050,T21 China 2050 reveals some of the sustainability challenges facing China,including 1)aging population and labor force decline,2)huge food imports,3)land degradation and loss of arable land,4)water shortages,5)huge fossil fuel imports,and 6)carbon dioxide emissions.These SD issues are a subset of the SDGs specifically relevant to China over a time horizon well beyond 2030.The model is then used to test possible policy interventions in these six areas under two separate scenarios:Balanced and Narrowly Focused.The major results from these two scenarios are compared with those of the business-as-usual scenario.The simulations show that by adopting certain policy measures,China’s path towards SD can be further improved.It also shows that a variety of policy measures can be selected and tested with the T21 China 2050 model for exploring the future SD prospects of the country.Specific policies recommended include:extension of retirement age,adjustment of the current family planning policy,protection of agriculture land,promotion of agricultural R&D to raise yield,improvement of public transportation to slow private vehicle ownership,increased investment in renewable energy,and water conservation. 展开更多

Howev-er, its impact on neurological function following diffuse brain injury is still unclear. This study was designed to evaluate the therapeutic effects and mechanisms of action of apolipoprotein E mimetic peptide on diffuse brain injury. Apolipoprotein E mimetic peptide was administered into the caudal vein of rats with diffuse brain injury before and after injury. We found that apo-lipoprotein E mimetic peptide signiifcantly decreased the number of apoptotic neurons, reduced extracellular signal-regulated kinase1/2 phosphorylation, down-regulated Bax and cytochrome c expression, decreased malondialdehyde content, and increased superoxide dismutase activity in a dose-dependent manner. These experimental ifndings demonstrate that apolipoprotein E mimetic peptide improves learning and memory function and protects against diffuse brain injury-induced apoptosis by inhibiting the extracellular signal-regulated kinase1/2-Bax mito-chondrial apoptotic pathway. 展开更多

This paper gives insight into the use of underground space in Helsinki,Finland.The city has an underground master plan(UMP) for its whole municipal area,not only for certain parts of the city.Further,the decision-making history of the UMP is described step-by-step.Some examples of underground space use in other cities are also given.The focus of this paper is on the sustainability issues related to urban underground space use,including its contribution to an environmentally sustainable and aesthetically acceptable landscape,anticipated structural longevity and maintaining the opportunity for urban development by future generations.Underground planning enhances overall safety and economy efficiency.The need for underground space use in city areas has grown rapidly since the 21 st century;at the same time,the necessity to control construction work has also increased.The UMP of Helsinki reserves designated space for public and private utilities in various underground areas of bedrock over the long term.The plan also provides the framework for managing and controlling the city’s underground construction work and allows suitable locations to be allocated for underground facilities.Tampere,the third most populated city in Finland and the biggest inland city in the Nordic countries,is also a good example of a city that is taking steps to utilise underground resources.Oulu,the capital city of northern Finland,has also started to ‘go underground’.An example of the possibility to combine two cities by an 80-km subsea tunnel is also discussed.A new fixed link would generate huge potential for the capital areas of Finland and Estonia to become a real Helsinki-Tallinn twin city. 展开更多

Land use balance determination using satellite imagery and geographic information system:case study in South Sulawesi Province,Indonesia

This study was conducted to produce a GIS-based land use/land cover(LULC)balance map for a certain period as a reference for policymakers in planning their future regional development.This study also measures supervised classification accuracy based on remote sensing and geographic information system(GIS)integration with field conditions.In June 2005 satellite imagery 7 ETM+was used as asset maps to assess land-use changes(LUC).Although in March 2019,the liability maps used satellite imagery 8 OLI/TIRS.Methods analysis consists of pre-image processing,image interpretation,random point,field check,and accuracy assessment.The image processing results were overlaid with an Indonesian topographic map to draw a LULC balance map.The findings indicate that in June 2005 and March 2019,each LULC had an assessment accuracy value of 82%and 86%,with a predicted assessment accuracy value of 18.05%and20.50%,respectively.These findings are checked to determine the suitability performance of field-based imaging approaches based on the Cohen Kappa coefficient criteria of 0.45 and 0.48 for June 2005 and March 2019.Based on these results,the image processing precision and suitability were excellent since they are more than 80%and satisfy the Cohen Kappa performance criterion.Furthermore,geospatial data on the LULC balance map is essential as a guide for planners and decision-makers to plan their regional development. 展开更多

A deep reinforcement learning method for multi-stage equipment development planning in uncertain environments

Equipment development planning(EDP)is usually a long-term process often performed in an environment with high uncertainty.The traditional multi-stage dynamic programming cannot cope with this kind of uncertainty with unpredictable situations.To deal with this problem,a multi-stage EDP model based on a deep reinforcement learning(DRL)algorithm is proposed to respond quickly to any environmental changes within a reasonable range.Firstly,the basic problem of multi-stage EDP is described,and a mathematical planning model is constructed.Then,for two kinds of uncertainties(future capabi lity requirements and the amount of investment in each stage),a corresponding DRL framework is designed to define the environment,state,action,and reward function for multi-stage EDP.After that,the dueling deep Q-network(Dueling DQN)algorithm is used to solve the multi-stage EDP to generate an approximately optimal multi-stage equipment development scheme.Finally,a case of ten kinds of equipment in 100 possible environments,which are randomly generated,is used to test the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed models.The results show that the algorithm can respond instantaneously in any state of the multistage EDP environment and unlike traditional algorithms,the algorithm does not need to re-optimize the problem for any change in the environment.In addition,the algorithm can flexibly adjust at subsequent planning stages in the event of a change to the equipment capability requirements to adapt to the new requirements. 展开更多

Revisiting Ubuntu in the Midst of a Violent Conflict: Reflections on the Marikana Tragedy in South Africa

South Africa comes from a bitter past of gross inequalities and human rights abuses suffered by the majority of Africans as a result of the colonial and apartheid legacy. When apartheid was dismantled in 1994, through the spirit of reconciliation which was spearheaded by the country's late and former President, Mr. Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, the country was transformed into a democracy where citizens opted to live together on the basis of equality and mutual respect for each other. The "New" South Africa immediately raised hope for change in the hearts of the majority, whose human rights were previously violated; who thought that the new dispensation would immediately bring improvements in their socioeconomic conditions. Based on the conflict perspective, this paper critically reflects on the recent case of violent conflict in South Africa known as the Marikana tragedy, to explore the efficacy of fostering meaningful reconciliation in the midst of a violent conflict. Through interviews carried out with survivors and wives of the deceased victims in October 2014, the paper demonstrates how the South African government has failed to meet the post-apartheid expectations, but instead, continues to serve the interests of capital at the expense of the majority of people whose working and living conditions have not improved 20 years into democracy. By interrogating their general understanding of democracy and reconciliation strategies used to address the conflict both by the government and the owners of capital, the paper concludes that meaningful reconciliation is a complex process that will take many more years than anticipated. It requires not only urgent redress of soeio-economic imbalances through the implementation of the new National Development Plan (NDP), but also the implementation of carefully crafted conflict resolution strategies that are embedded in the application of Ubuntu principles by all those involved in the conflict. 展开更多
