By CT perfusion imaging, 29 cases in the cerebral infarction group and 10 cases in the transient ischemic attack group presented with abnormal blood flow perfusion, which corresponded to the clinical symptoms. By CT angiography, various degrees of vascular stenosis could be detected in 41 patients, including 33 in the cerebral infarction group and eight in the transient ischemic attack group. The incidence of intracranial artery stenosis was higher than that of extracranial artery stenosis. The intracranial artery stenosis was located predominantly in the middle cerebral artery and carotid artery siphon, while the extracranial artery stenosis occurred mainly in the bifurcation of the common carotid artery and the opening of the vertebral artery. There were 34 cases (83%) with convict vascular stenosis and perfusion abnormalities, and five cases (45%) with perfusion abnormalities but without convict vascular stenosis. The incidence of cerebral infarction in patients with National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale scores 〉 5 points during onset was significantly higher than that in patients with National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale scores 〈 5 points. These experimental findings indicate that the combined application of various CT imaging methods allows early diagnosis of acute ischemic cerebrovascular disease, which can comprehensively analyze the pathogenesis and severity of acute ischemic cerebrovascular disease at the morphological and functional levels.展开更多

Current clinicallyavailable diagnostic methods are mainly based on the use of either X-rays or ultrasound(US). All X-ray based methods provide a measure of bone mineral density(BMD), but it has been demonstrated that other structural aspects of the bone are important in determining fracture risk, such as mechanical features and elastic properties, which cannot be assessed using densitometric techniques. Among the most commonly used techniques, dual X-ray absorptiometry(DXA) is considered the current 'gold standard' for osteoporosis diagnosis and fracture risk prediction. Unfortunately, as other X-ray based techniques, DXA has specific limitations(e.g., use of ionizing radiation, large size of the equipment, high costs, limited availability) that hinder its application for population screenings and primary care diagnosis. This has resulted in an increasing interest in developing reliable pre-screening tools for osteoporosis such as quantitative ultrasound(QUS) scanners, which do not involve ionizing radiation exposure and represent a cheaper solution exploiting portable and widely available devices. Furthermore, the usefulness of QUS techniques in fracture risk prediction has been proven and, with the last developments, they are also becoming a more and more reliable approach for assessing bone quality. However, the US assessment of osteoporosis is currently used only as a pre-screening tool, requiring a subsequent diagnosis confirmation by means of a DXA evaluation. The hemangioma had the highest incidence, and the less common tumors were, in sequence of incidence, pseudotumor, dermoid cysts, neurilemmoma, polymorphous adenoma and meningioma. The sensitivity in diagnosis of orbital tumor by CT was 93. 3 %. The coincidence of CT histological diagnosis with pathology were 83. 3 %, 82. 6% and 71. 4 % for dermoid cysts, hemangioma, and pseudotumor respectively, but the general coincidence of CT histological diagnosis with pathology was only 67. 8 %. When CT was combined with ultrasound, cytological examination and clinical manifestations, the accuracy of histological diagnosis could be improved to 83.3%.展开更多

METHODS: Multi-phase helical CT findings were reviewed double-blindly by radiologists. RESULTS: Altogether 24 lesions were found in 21 patients. In plain CT, the lesions were seen as hypodense or isodense areas. After contrast enhancement, 87.5% of the lesions showed regular or irregular hyperdense enhancement, whereas 12.5% demonstrated tumor vessels in arterial phase, which became hypodensed or isodensed nodules in portal phase or the hypodensed in delayed phase. The prevalence of density changes showed a hypo-hyper-hypo and hypo-hypo pattern. CONCLUSIONS: Multi-phase helical CT could reflect the blood supply of early hepatocelluar carcinoma, and is also convenient for the differential diagnosis of hepatic cavernous angioma, metastatic tumor, hepatic nodulous hyperplasia, and hepatic inflammatory granuloma.展开更多

Thedetectability, diagnostic accuracy of lesions and en-hancement of the lesions in AP were analyzed statisti-cally. In addition, the initial time, ending time andduration of AP were measured. Results: The results of the group A showed the de-tectability of small HCC was 88.68% in AP and90.57% in both phases, higher than those by ultra-sound. Markedly enhanced lesions in AP accounted for76% and 78% in the groups B and C respectively. Theinitial time, ending time and duration of AP measuredon single-level dynamic scans were 16.9s, 39.6s and22.7s on average respectively. Conclusions: The biphase dynamic SCT especially itsarterial phase appears to be very valuable in diagnosingsmall HCCs. In light of short duration of AP, under-standing and strict control of AP is obviously impera-tive.展开更多

Methods: We designed a cross sectional study. Suspected cases of COVID-19 during the first wave at the national social insurance fund (NSIF) hospital were screened with both COVID-19 with lung CT scan and a PCR test. Univariate analysis was performed for sample description and multivariate analysis to assess the correlation between positive results for the PCR and other parameters. We estimated the optimum threshold of sensitivity/specificity, and area under curve using the empirical method and package. Results: A total of 62 suspected COVID-19 cases were recorded, predominantly males (Sex Ratio = 2.2) with a median age of 58.5 (IQR = 19.7). Among our 62 patients, 29 (46.8%) were confirmed COVID-19 cases with positive PCR results. All the patients had a thorax CT scan with a median impairment of 40% (IQR = 20%). The optimum threshold estimate for CT scan for COVID-19 infection diagnosis was 60% (95% CI = 25% - 80%). Overall, the sensitivity and specificity estimates were 0.30 (95% CI = 0.15 - 0.49) and 0.87 (95% CI = 0.70 - 0.96), respectively, leading to an Area Under Curve (AUC) estimate of 0.59 (95% CI = 0.46, 0.71). Conclusion: In this setting, lung CT scan was neither sensitive nor specific to predict COVID-19 disease.展开更多

Few cases of patients with pneumomediastinum show negative findings on X-ray examination. Chest computed tomography (CT) was very useful for the diagnosis and evaluation of the extent of pneumomediastinum. We report here a case of idiopathic pneumomediastinum in a 15-year-old boy who exhibited no significant chest X-ray finding. The patient was referred to our institute for the further evaluation of pre-cordial pain and breathing difficulty. Precordial pain suddenly developed, when he was carrying a portable shrine on his shoulder (day of onset). He was admitted to another institute 3 days after onset because of worsening precordial pain. On admission, he presented with 98% saturation of hemoglobin in the peripheral blood under room air. Plain chest X-ray also revealed no abnormal findings. A half-dissolved gastrographin swallow showed no leakage of gastrographin from the pharynx and esophagus to the mediastinum, and no diverticulum within the esophagus. Plain chest CT revealed extensive emphysema around the trachea from the neck to the portion inferior to the carina of trachea. The patient was diagnosed with idiopathic pneumomediastinum because the cause was unclear. We decided to admit him to our institute under fasting conditions and rest. His symptoms improved 3 days after onset. The lesion had disap-peared 8 days after onset on chest CT. When young people experience precordial pain which increases on inspiration, we must consider pneumomediastinum in a differential diagnosis, and it is important to perform chest CT.展开更多

The short interval required to carry out this investigative procedure and obtain results makes it the first imaging modality used to unravel the different causes of acute abdominal conditions in children. The safety of abdominal x-ray in children makes it attractive for use in paediatric surgical practice as part of routine work-up for undifferentiated acute abdominal conditions and also to diagnose specific causes of acute abdomen in children. Setting: Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, Ogun State. Objectives: Evaluation of the role of plain abdominal x-ray in diagnosing common acute abdominal conditions in children. Materials and method: Patients admitted to the children emergency room, paediatric surgical wards, children’s ward and neonatal ward who had plain abdominal x-ray as part of their diagnostic work-up were included in the study. They were studied prospectively between March 2011 and April 2021. Results: Three Hundred and Ninety-nine patients who had plain abdominal x-rays as part of their diagnostic work-up were studied. Males were 240 while females were 159, a male to female ratio of 1.5:1. The patients were aged between 1 day to 16 years. Differential diagnoses made with plain abdominal x-ray were intestinal obstruction in 298, perforated viscus 69 patients, intra-abdominal masses 13 patients and location of intra-abdominal foreign body 14. Intestinal obstruction cases in which plain abdominal x-ray played a role in their diagnosis and management included the following: intussusception 66, neonatal sepsis 60, malrotation 48, intestinal atresia 42, anorectal malformation 32, hirschsprung’s disease in 30 cases, pyloric stenosis 24, obstructed hernia 22, post-operative adhesions 16 and intestinal helminthiasis 12. Perforated viscus accounted for 69 indications. Out of these indications, perforated gut in intussusception 19, perforated typhoid ileitis was responsible in 13 cases, gut perforation in blunt abdominal trauma 8, perforation in strangulated hernia 11 cases, perforated gut in malrotation 7, ceacal perforation in hirschsprugs disease 6 and colonic perforation in necrotizing enterocolitis 5 cases. Conclusion: Plain abdominal x-ray remains a role to play in the differential diagnosis and management of common paediatric acute abdominal conditions.展开更多

文摘Utilizing lightweight Al alloys in various industrial applications requires achieving precise pressure tightness and leak requirements.Vacuum pressure impregnation(VPI)with thermosetting polymers is commonly used to address leakage defects in die-cast Al alloys. In this study, the efficacy of the VPI technique in sealing alloy parts was investigated using a combination of nondestructive micro X-ray computed tomography(micro XCT)and a standard leak test. The results demonstrate that the commonly used water leak test is insufficient for determining the sealing performance.Instead, micro XCT shows distinct advantages by enabling more comprehensive analysis. It reveals the presence of a low atomic number impregnates sealant within casting defects, which has low grey contrast and allows for visualizing primary leakage paths in 3D.The effective atomic number of impregnated resin is 6.75 and that of Al alloy is 13.69 by dual-energy X-ray CT.This research findings will contribute to enhancing the standard VPI process parameters and the properties of impregnating sealants to improve quality assurance for impregnation in industrial metals.

文摘Summary: The clinical manifestation and characteristics of CT image of 117 cases of orbital tumors in our hospital were investigated. The hemangioma had the highest incidence, and the less common tumors were, in sequence of incidence, pseudotumor, dermoid cysts, neurilemmoma, polymorphous adenoma and meningioma. The sensitivity in diagnosis of orbital tumor by CT was 93. 3 %. The coincidence of CT histological diagnosis with pathology were 83. 3 %, 82. 6% and 71. 4 % for dermoid cysts, hemangioma, and pseudotumor respectively, but the general coincidence of CT histological diagnosis with pathology was only 67. 8 %. When CT was combined with ultrasound, cytological examination and clinical manifestations, the accuracy of histological diagnosis could be improved to 83.3%.

文摘Different sedimentary zones in coral reefs lead to significant anisotropy in the pore structure of coral reef limestone(CRL),making it difficult to study mechanical behaviors. With X-ray computed tomography(CT),112 CRL samples were utilized for training the support vector machine(SVM)-,random forest(RF)-,and back propagation neural network(BPNN)-based models, respectively.Simultaneously, the machine learning model was embedded into genetic algorithm(GA)for parameter optimization to effectively predict uniaxial compressive strength(UCS)of CRL.Results indicate that the BPNN model with five hidden layers presents the best training effect in the data set of CRL.The SVM-based model shows a tendency to overfitting in the training set and poor generalization ability in the testing set.The RF-based model is suitable for training CRL samples with large data.Analysis of Pearson correlation coefficient matrix and the percentage increment method of performance metrics shows that the dry density, pore structure, and porosity of CRL are strongly correlated to UCS.However, the P-wave velocity is almost uncorrelated to the UCS,which is significantly distinct from the law for homogenous geomaterials. In addition, the pore tensor proposed in this paper can effectively reflect the pore structure of coral framework limestone(CFL)and coral boulder limestone(CBL),realizing the quantitative characterization of the heterogeneity and anisotropy of pore. The pore tensor provides a feasible idea to establish the relationship between pore structure and mechanical behavior of CRL.
文摘OBJECTIVES: To analyze the characteristics of early hepatocellular carcinoma by using multi-phase helical CT and assess the value of this method. CONCLUSIONS: Multi-phase helical CT could reflect the blood supply of early hepatocelluar carcinoma, and is also convenient for the differential diagnosis of hepatic cavernous angioma, metastatic tumor, hepatic nodulous hyperplasia, and hepatic inflammatory granuloma.
文摘Objectives: To evaluate the value of the arterial phase(AP) of biphase enhanced spiral CT(SCT) in the di-agnosis of small HCC and to investigate the criteria, initial time, ending time and duration of AP.Methods: From May 1995 to March 1999, patients withsmall HCC proved surgically and pathologically in-cluding 49 patients (n=53) in group A, 148 (n=186) ingroup B and 52 (n=52) in group C were collected.Biphase dynamic enhanced SCT scans were performedin all patients of the three groups and additional sin-gle-level dynamic scans only done in the group C. In light of short duration of AP, under-standing and strict control of AP is obviously impera-tive.
文摘Eight cases of surgically and pathologically verified extraskeletal (soft tissue) chondrosarcoma were analyzed with regard to clinical and X-ray features. The cardinal clinical aspects of this series are: presence of a local soft tissue mass; gradual enlargement of the mass accompanied by increasing pain. The X-ray signs were summarized as follows: formation of a soft tissue mass; various forms of calcifications concentrated in the central area of the tumor; in some instances, presence of a saucer-like defect on the cortical surface of neighbouring bone and periosteal proliferation with mound-like new bone on both sides as well as bending deformity of the affected bone. The incidence and sites of predilection, the main X-ray findings, radiological diagnosis and differential diagnosis of the tumor were discussed. The Roentgen features of synovial chondrosarcoma of the knee joint were especially analyzed.
文摘Objective: To evaluate the lung CT scan as a possible predictive diagnostic method for COVID-19 in the Cameroonian context. Conclusion: In this setting, lung CT scan was neither sensitive nor specific to predict COVID-19 disease.
文摘Objective: To study the CT imaging of primary large bowel lymphoma and evaluate the value of CT scan. Methods: CT reports of 8 patients with proven primary large bowel lymphoma were retrospectively reviewed. Plain CT scans were done on all patients, enhanced CT scans simultaneously with 5-10 mm section thickness, and 5-10 mm table increments in 6 cases. Results: Primary involved sites were on the cecum (n=3), the ascending colon (n=2), and the rectum (n=1). The tumor was found in multiple areas of the large bowel in 2 cases. CT appearance fell into 3 typical patterns in our study. The first was focal mass type in 2 cases, with one combined with intussusception and retroperitoneal adenopathy; the second was segmental annular involvement type in 3 cases, with one of them combined with mesenteric adenopathy; the last was diffuse involvement type in 2 cases. Multiple nodules were seen in the rectum in 1 case. Conclusion: CT was found to be accurate in detecting the primary sites and complications of lymphoma, and evaluating invasion of adjacent structures; Focal mass type, segmental annular involvement type and diffuse involvement type are the main patterns of CT features in the primary large bowel lymphoma; The features revealed by CT scan are suggestive of primary large bowel lymphoma in some cases.

文摘The clinical and radiologic features of 16 cases of surgically and pathologically proved juxtacortical chondrosarcoma were analyzed. The main radiograp-hic findings include: (1) A saucerlike or scalloped defect confined to the outer surface of cortex dut to tumor erosion; (2) Localized cortical proliferation and sclerosis; (3) Soft tissue mass and various forms of calcification within the tumor; but without a bony or calcified shell around the tumor mass and (4) sunray and/or laminated periosteal reaction. The origin of this tumor, its histopathology and classification were discussed. A preliminary investigation on the radiated periosteal reaction and its pathological basis was performed.
文摘Idiopathic pneumomediastinum is rare in children. When young people experience precordial pain which increases on inspiration, we must consider pneumomediastinum in a differential diagnosis, and it is important to perform chest CT.
文摘Background: The plain abdominal x-ray is one of the commonly requested investigations in the children emergency room, paediatric surgical ward and neonatal wards. Conclusion: Plain abdominal x-ray remains a role to play in the differential diagnosis and management of common paediatric acute abdominal conditions.
