This optimization affects both editorial practices and products in terms of content and form. These products, now accessible through various media, bring significant changes, while the editorial function undergoes a metamorphosis due to digital exposure. In Cameroon, the book sector is predominantly focused on school textbooks, a legacy from the colonial period. This study investigates the impact of technological innovation on Cameroonian publishing by examining the processes of content selection, legitimization, and dissemination in the digital age. Using the sociology of technology as a framework, we hypothesize an interrelationship between the dominance of textbook publishing and the delayed digital transformation of publishing houses in Cameroon. To explore this hypothesis, we conducted direct observations, interviews with key industry stakeholders, and an extensive analysis of digital adoption metrics within the publishing sector. Our research reveals that the historical focus on educational publishing has created structural and cultural barriers to embracing digital innovations. Moreover, limited infrastructure and a lack of digital literacy among publishing professionals further hinder the transition. Despite these challenges, there are emerging opportunities for digital transformation, particularly in diversifying content and expanding access through digital platforms. Our findings indicate that a strategic shift towards embracing digital tools and improving infrastructure could significantly enhance the efficiency and reach of Cameroonian publishing houses. By addressing the specific challenges identified in our study, the industry can leverage digital technologies to foster a more inclusive, dynamic, and resilient publishing environment. This study provides a detailed examination of the specificities of digital transformation in Cameroonian publishing, offering insights for policymakers and industry stakeholders aiming to promote technological innovation in the sector.展开更多

Despite significant investments in digital technologies, agricultural productivity continues to underperform. This study explores the barriers preventing the scaling of digital advisory services among smallholder farmers and identifies strategies to optimize their adoption. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected from 854 smallholder farmers, 40 extension staff, and 8 development workers across six districts in Zimbabwe. The study reveals a high mobile penetration rate of 91%, higher than the 85% reported in the literature. However, challenges such as limited digital literacy, poor network connectivity, and financial constraints hinder the effective use of mobile advisory services. The findings also highlight a strong reliance on basic communication tools like SMS (42.83%) and WhatsApp (25.14%) for receiving agricultural information, while more advanced tools like mobile apps have lower adoption. Key recommendations include investing in nationwide digital literacy programs, incentivizing mobile network operators to improve rural connectivity, and developing human-centered, scalable digital solutions tailored to farmers’ needs. Furthermore, integrating AI-driven advisory systems with popular platforms like WhatsApp could significantly enhance the delivery of site-specific, actionable farming advice. This research provides insights into how digital advisory systems can be leveraged to improve agricultural productivity in Zimbabwe and other similar contexts.展开更多

The evolution of mobile networks from the first generation (1G) to the 5th generation is still a long process. 2G networks have developed the messaging service, which complements the already operational voice service. 2G technology has rapidly progressed to the third generation (3G), incorporating multimedia data transmission techniques. It then progressed to fourth generation (4G) and LTE (Long Term Evolution), increasing the transmission speed to improve 3G. Currently, developed countries have already moved to 5G. In developing countries, including Burundi, a member of the East African Community (ECA) where more than 80% are connected to 2G technologies, 40% are connected to the 3G network and 25% to the 4G network and are not yet connected to the 5G network and then still a process. The objective of this article is to analyze the coverage of 2G, 3G and 4G networks in Burundi. This analysis will make it possible to identify possible deficits in order to reduce the digital divide between connected urban areas and remote rural areas. Furthermore, this analysis will draw the attention of decision-makers to the need to deploy networks and coverage to allow the population to access mobile and Internet services and thus enable the digitalization of the population. Finally, this article shows the level of coverage, the digital divide and an overview of the deployment of base stations (BTS) throughout the country to promote the transformation and digital inclusion of services.展开更多

文摘BACKGROUND Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)management requires sustainable lifestyle modifications. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the RESET care plan,a comprehensive program that is an integrated personalized diet, exercise, and cognitive behavior therapy, delivered via MyTatva’s digital health application enabled through a body composition analyzer(BCA)and smartwatch.AIM To evaluates the effectiveness of the comprehensive program delivered via My-Tatva’s digital health app enabled through internet of thing devices.METHODS This retrospective observational study analyzed deidentified data from 22 par-ticipants enrolled in the MyTatva RESET care program.Participants were divided into three groups:Group A,diet plan;Group B,diet+exercise plan;and Group C,diet+exercise+cognitive behavioral therapy plan.Participants were provided with a BCA and smartwatch for continuous monitoring of anthropometric para-meters.Statistical analysis, including one-way ANOVA and post-hoc Tukey’s Honest Significant Difference test, was conducted to compare mean changes in anthropometric parameters across the groups.INTRODUCTION Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)has emerged as a global health burden, affecting approximately 1 in 4 in-dividuals worldwide.NAFLD ranges from simple steatosis(fat accumulation)to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH),and its global prevalence in the general population is estimated between 6.3%and 33%,with NASH affecting 3-5%[1,2].Obesity is a major risk factor of NAFLD,with studies showing that the likelihood of developing NAFLD increases 5-fold at a body mass index(BMI)of 30-32.5 kg/m²and up to 14-fold at BMI of 37.5-40 kg/m²compared to a BMI of 20-22.5 kg/m²[3,4].Effective NAFLD management requires both dietary and physical activity modifications.Healthy weight loss with sustained muscle mass plays a pivotal role, with a reduction of 3%-5%decreasing hepatic steatosis,5%-7%improving NASH conditions, and 10%or more needed to reverse hepatic fibrosis[5].Management also normalizes elevated liver enzymes(aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase),enhances insulin sensitivity, and thereby reduces cardiovascular risk by improving endothelial function and increasing cardiorespiratory fitness[6].However,diet or exercise alone is often not as effective as a combined approach.Integrating both balanced dietary changes and increased physical activity yields more sustainable improvements in NAFLD and overall metabolic health[1,7].Traditional intervention methods usually involve in-person consultations, which often lack real-time and continuous patient monitoring. The recommendation of drastic changes in diet and exercise can also be overwhelming for patients, leading to low adherence rates. Many patients struggle to maintain these changes in the long-term due to a lack of con-tinuous motivational support[8,9].In recent years, the health ecosystem has witnessed a significant shift toward digital health platforms, which complement pharmacological treatments in chronic disease management, and increase scala-bility.These platforms provide continuous monitoring and personalized support, helping to bridge the gap between health care setups and patients[10].Recent digital advances enable internet of things(IoT)devices to be integrated into such management plans to track health metrics,to address the limitations of traditional methods[11,12].The MyTatva digital health application offers the RESET plan,a novel comprehensive approach for NAFLD mana-gement by integrating personalized support from nutrition, physiotherapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy(CBT)coaches. We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the RESET plan by analyzing the reduction in anthropometric para-meters across three different digital intervention groups.

文摘Using the CHDES database,we created the CIDI to comprehensively quantify digital adoption at the individual level and examine digitalization’s impact on individual income.Empirical analysis results indicate that increasing the CIDI by one standard deviation(0.13)improves individual income by 5.93 percentage points, which remains true after a series of endogeneity and robustness tests. In the heterogeneity analysis,we discovered that when digital adoption grows, residents in the countryside and county seats can earn more money through internet business operations and other channels. This helps to decrease the urban-rural income divide, but it has also pushed those digitally skilled into high-paying sectors, widening the income gaps between sectors. In the mechanism analysis,we developed an income function that takes into account the individual level of digitalization to show that digitalization can boost income by increasing working hours or labor participation and adjusting the portfolio of individual material, human, and social capital. In this paper,we have expanded the system for measuring the individual levels of digitalization by offering basic data, research methodology, and policy suggestions for the digital economy’s inclusive development.

文摘In the digital age, performance-oriented publishing houses utilize digital tools to optimize their editorial activities. This study provides a detailed examination of the specificities of digital transformation in Cameroonian publishing, offering insights for policymakers and industry stakeholders aiming to promote technological innovation in the sector.

文摘Regional inequality significantly influences sustainable development and human well-being.In China, there exists pronounced regional disparities in economic and digital advancements;however, scant research delves into the interplay between them.By analyzing the economic development and digitalization gaps at regional and city levels in China, extending the original Cobb-Douglas production function, this study aims to evaluate the impact of digitalization on China's regional inequality using seemingly unrelated regression. The results indicate a greater emphasis on digital inequality compared to economic disparity, with variable coefficients of 0.59 for GDP per capita and 0.92 for the digitalization index over the past four years. However,GDP per capita demonstrates higher spatial concentration than digitalization.Notably, both disparities have shown a gradual reduction in recent years. The southeastern region of the Hu Huanyong Line exhibits superior levels and rates of economic and digital advancement in contrast to the northwestern region. While digitalization propels economic growth,it yields a nuanced impact on achieving balanced regional development, encompassing both positive and negative facets. Our study highlights that the marginal utility of advancing digitalization is more pronounced in less developed regions, but only if the government invests in the digital infrastructure and education in these areas. This study's methodology can be utilized for subsequent research, and our findings hold the potential to the government's regional investment and policy-making.

文摘The human digital twin(HDT)emerges as a promising human-centric technology in Industry 5.0,but challenges remain in human modeling and simulation.Digital human modeling(DHM)provides solutions for modeling and simulating human physical and cognitive aspects to support ergonomic analysis. However,it has limitations in real-time data usage, personalized services, and timely interaction. The emerging HDT concept offers new possibilities by integrating multi-source data and artificial intelligence for continuous monitoring and assessment.Hence, this paper reviews the evolution from DHM to HDT and proposes a unified HDT framework from a human factors perspective. The framework comprises the physical twin, the virtual twin, and the linkage between these two.The virtual twin integrates human modeling and AI engines to enable model-data-hybrid-enabled simulation.HDT can potentially upgrade traditional ergonomic methods to intelligent services through real-time analysis, timely feedback, and bidirectional interactions. Finally, the future perspectives of HDT for industrial applications as well as technical and social challenges are discussed. In general, this study outlines a human factors perspective on HDT for the first time, which is useful for cross-disciplinary research and human factors innovation to enhance the development of HDT in industry.
文摘The adoption of digital advisory systems is transforming smallholder agriculture in Zimbabwe, a country where agriculture remains the primary livelihood for most of the population. This research provides insights into how digital advisory systems can be leveraged to improve agricultural productivity in Zimbabwe and other similar contexts.

文摘The three core issues in the“digital human rights”debate are whether“digital human rights”are possible, necessary, and feasible. Both sides of the debate focus on discovering the value of“digital human rights”to individuals from a semantic level, but ignore the significance of“digital human rights”to the whole society and its subsystems at the level of social structure.By introducing Niklas Luhmann's System Theory, this observation blind spot can be eliminated.Fundamental rights are devoted to directly shaping not a physiological-psychological“individual”as a social environment but a social“person”that can be included by social systems. It is clear that digital human rights are the right to participate in digital communication of a“human”as a“person”,so they are possible in terms of conceptual definition.Digital human rights can help“people”lower the threshold for participation in digital communication, limit the excessive expansion of social systems, and promote the free and complete expression of body and mind,so they are necessary for social functions. There are limitations in the existing two ideas of“incorporating digital human rights into the constitution”.Based on the new construction idea of System Theory of Law,digital human rights as the right to participate in digital communication can be typified into digital communication in social sub-fields such as politics, economy, science, and art.The right to participate constructs a complete digital human rights system, making it feasible on the basis of the constitution.

文摘Mobile and Internet network coverage plays an important role in digital transformation and the exploitation of new services. Finally, this article shows the level of coverage, the digital divide and an overview of the deployment of base stations (BTS) throughout the country to promote the transformation and digital inclusion of services.
