Discontinuous Galerkin(DG) method is known to have several advantages for flow simulations,in particular,in fiexible accuracy management and adaptability to mesh refinement. In the present work, the DG method is developed for numerical simulations of both temporally and spatially developing mixing layers. For the temporally developing mixing layer, both the instantaneous fiow field and time evolution of momentum thickness agree very well with the previous results. Shocklets are observed at higher convective Mach numbers and the vortex paring manner is changed for high compressibility. For the spatially developing mixing layer,large-scale coherent structures and self-similar behavior for mean profiles are investigated. The instantaneous fiow field for a three-dimensional compressible mixing layer is also reported, which shows the development of largescale coherent structures in the streamwise direction. All numerical results suggest that the DG method is effective in performing accurate numerical simulations for compressible shear fiows. 展开更多

The staggered distribution of joints and fissures in space constitutes the weak part of any rock mass. The identification of rock mass structural planes and the extraction of characteristic parameters are the basis of rock-mass integrity evaluation, which is very important for analysis of slope stability. The laser scanning technique can be used to acquire the coordinate information pertaining to each point of the structural plane, but large amount of point cloud data, uneven density distribution, and noise point interference make the identification efficiency and accuracy of different types of structural planes limited by point cloud data analysis technology.A new point cloud identification and segmentation algorithm for rock mass structural surfaces is proposed.Based on the distribution states of the original point cloud in different neighborhoods in space, the point clouds are characterized by multi-dimensional eigenvalues and calculated by the robust randomized Hough transform(RRHT).The normal vector difference and the final eigenvalue are proposed for characteristic distinction, and the identification of rock mass structural surfaces is completed through regional growth, which strengthens the difference expression of point clouds. In addition, nearest Voxel downsampling is also introduced in the RRHT calculation, which further reduces the number of sources of neighborhood noises, thereby improving the accuracy and stability of the calculation. The advantages of the method have been verified by laboratory models. The results showed that the proposed method can better achieve the segmentation and statistics of structural planes with interfaces and sharp boundaries. The method works well in the identification of joints, fissures, and other structural planes on Mangshezhai slope in the Three Gorges Reservoir area,China. It can provide a stable and effective technique for the identification and segmentation of rock mass structural planes, which is beneficial in engineering practice. 展开更多

The intersection of the Kyushu-Palau Ridge(KPR)and the Central Basin Rift(CBR)of the West Philippine Basin(WPB)is a relic of a trench-trench-rift(TTR)type triple-junction,which preserves some pivotal information on the cessation of the seafloor spreading of the WPB,the emplacement and disintegration of the proto-Izu-Bonin-Mariana(IBM)Arc,and the transition from initial rifting to steady-state spreading of the Parece Vela Basin(PVB).However, the structural characteristics of this triple-junction have not been thoroughly understood. In this paper, using the newly acquired multi-beam bathymetric, gravity, and magnetic data obtained by the Qingdao Institute of Marine Geology,China Geological Survey, the authors depict the topographic, gravity, and magnetic characteristics of the triple-junction and adjacent region.Calculations including the upward continuations and total horizontal derivatives of gravity anomaly are also performed to highlight the major structural features and discontinuities.Based on these works, the morphological and structural features and their formation mechanisms are analyzed. The results show that the last episode amagmatic extension along the CBR led to the formation of a deep rift valley, which extends eastward and incised the KPR.The morphological and structural fabrics of the KPR near and to the south of the triple-junction are consistent with those of the western PVB,manifesting as a series of NNE-SSW-and N-S-trending ridges and troughs, which were produced by the extensional faults associated with the initial rifting of the PVB.The superposition of the above two reasons induced the prominent discontinuity of the KPR in deep and shallow crustal structures between 15°N‒15°30′N and 13°30′N‒14°N.Combined with previous authors’results,we propose that the stress produced by the early spreading of the PVB transmitted westward and promoted the final stage amagmatic extension of the CBR.The eastward propagation of the CBR destroyed the KPR,of which the magmatism had decayed or ceased at that time. The destruction mechanism of the KPR associated with the rifting of the PVB varies along strike the KPR.Adjacent to the triple-junction,the KPR was destroyed mainly due to the oblique intersection of the PVB rifting center.Whereas south of the triple-junction,the KPR was destroyed by the E-W-directional extensional faulting on its whole width. 展开更多

Electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) has been used to experimentally detect shallow buried faults in urban areas in the past a few years, with some progress and experience obtained. According to the results from Olympic Park, Beijing, Shandong Province, Gansu Province and Shanxi Province, we have generalized the method and procedure for inferring the discontinuity of electrical structures (DES) indicating a buried fault in urban areas from resistivity tomograms and its typical electrical features. In general, the layered feature of the electrical structure is first analyzed to preliminarily define whether or not a DES exists in the target area. Resistivity contours in resistivity tomograms are then analyzed from the deep to the shallow. If they extend upward from the deep to the shallow and shape into an integral dislocation, sharp flexure (convergence) or gradient zone, it is inferred that the DES exists, indicating a buried fault. Finally, horizontal tracing is be carried out to define the trend of the DES. The DES can be divided into three types-type AB, ABA and AC. In the present paper, the Zhangdian-Renhe fault system in Zibo city is used as an example to illustrate how to use the method to infer the location and spatial extension of a target fault. Geologic drilling holes are placed based on our research results, and the drilling logs testify that our results are correct. However, the method of this paper is not exclusive and inflexible. It is expected to provide reference and assistance for inferring the shallow buried faults in urban areas from resistivity tomograms in the future. 展开更多

The microstructures and mechanical properties of the directionally solidified Cu-15Ni-8Sn alloy were investigated at solidification rates ranging from 100 to 3000μm/s.The results showed that the solidification rate significantly affects the phase distribution of the as-cast Cu-15Ni-8Sn alloy. The primary and secondary dendritic spacing reduces and eventually becomes stable as the solidification rate increases.Meanwhile, the size of the primary phase decreases, and its distribution becomes more uniform. The most severe segregation problem of this alloy has been greatly improved.Upon solidification at 100μm/s,the as-cast Cu-15Ni-8Sn alloy consists of the α-Cu matrix,γ-CuNi_(2)Sn phase, discontinuous precipitation structure, modulated structure, and DO_(22) ordered phases. However,as the solidification rate increases, the discontinuous precipitation structure, modulated structures, and DO_(22) ordered phases decrease and even disappear, reducing hardness. As the solidification rate increases, after homogenization treatment, the composition and microhardness distributions of Cu-15Ni-8Sn alloy become more uniform. The time for homogenization is also shortened. It reduces production energy usage and facilitates further mechanical processing. 展开更多

Critical plane method is one of the most promising approaches to predict the fatigue life when the structure is subjected to the multiaxial loading. The stress-strain status and the critical plane position for smooth specimens are calculated using theoretical approaches when the loading mode is a continuous function. However, because of the existence of stress concentration and the characteristic of multiaxial non-proportion,it is difficult to calculate the stress-strain status and the critical plane position of geometric discontinuity structure by theory method. In this paper,a new numerical simulation method is proposed to determine the critical plane of geometric discontinuity structure under multiaxial loading.Firstly, the strain status of dangerous point is analyzed by finite element method.Secondly, the maximum shear strain amplitude of arbitrary plane is calculated using coordinate transformation principle. Finally, the plane which has the maximum shear strain amplitude is defined as the critical plane. The critical plane positions are analyzed when loading mode and notch parameters are different.Meanwhile, the relationship between notch depth and associated parameters on critical plane as well as that between loading amplitude and associated parameters on critical plane are given quantitatively. 展开更多
