The existence of two kinds of generalized synchronization manifold in two unidirectionally coupled discrete stochastic dynamical systems is studied in this paper. When the drive system is chaotic and the modified response system collapses to an asymptotically stable equilibrium or asymptotically stable periodic orbit, under certain conditions, the existence of the generalized synchronization can be converted to the problem of a Lipschitz contractive fixed point or Schauder fixed point. Moreover, the exponential attractive property of generalized synchronization manifold is strictly proved. In addition, numerical simulations demonstrate the correctness of the present theory. The physical background and meaning of the results obtained in this paper are also discussed. 展开更多

Drought conditions at a given location evolve randomly through time and are typically characterized by severity and duration. Researchers interested in modeling the economic effects of drought on agriculture or other water users often capture the stochastic nature of drought and its conditions via multiyear, stochastic economic models. Three major sources of uncertainty in application of a multiyear discrete stochastic model to evaluate user preparedness and response to drought are: (1) the assumption of independence of yearly weather conditions, (2) linguistic vagueness in the definition of drought itself, and (3) the duration of drought. One means of addressing these uncertainties is to re-cast drought as a stochastic, multiyear process using a “fuzzy” semi-Markov process. In this paper, we review “crisp” versus “fuzzy” representations of drought and show how fuzzy semi-Markov processes can aid researchers in developing more robust multiyear, discrete stochastic models. 展开更多

In long term evolution (LTE) uplink single carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) system, the restriction that multiple resource blocks (RBs) allocated to a user should be adjacent, makes the resource allocation problem hard to solve. Moreover, with the practical constraint that perfect channel state information (CSI) cannot be obtained in time-varying channel, the resource allocation problem will become more difficult. In this paper, an efficient resource allocation algorithm is proposed in LTE uplink SC-FDMA system with imperfect CSI assumption. Firstly, the resource allocation problem is formulated as a mixed integer programming problem. Then an efficient algorithm based on discrete stochastic optimization is proposed to solve the problem. Finally, simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has desirable system performance. 展开更多

Some are individual based models and others are comp... Background: Mathematical models are essential to predict the likely outcome of an epidemic. Various models have been proposed in the literature for disease spreads. Some are individual based models and others are compartmental models. In this study, discrete mathematical models are developed for the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).Methods: The proposed models take into account the known special characteristics of this disease such as the latency and incubation periods, and the different social and infectiousness conditions of infected people. In particular, they include a novel approach that considers the social structure, the fraction of detected cases over the real total infected cases, the influx of undetected infected people from outside the borders, as well as contact-tracing and quarantine period for travelers. The first model is a simplified model and the second is a complete model.Results: From a numerical point of view, the particular case of Lebanon has been studied and its reported data have been used to estimate the complete discrete model parameters using optimization techniques. Moreover, a parameter analysis and several prediction scenarios are presented in order to better understand the role of the parameters.Conclusions: Understanding the role of the parameters involved in the models help policy makers in deciding the appropriate mitigation measures. Also, the proposed approach paves the way for models that take into account societal factors and complex human behavior without an extensive process of data collection. 展开更多
