Colorless operations are implemented by using commercially available reflective semiconductor optical amplifiers (RSOAs) at both the center office (CO) and the customer side. Four 1.25-Gb/s channels are successfully transmitted over 80-km single-mode fiber with four OADMs. The dynamic input power range of the RSOA is also investigated. Compared with traditional access schemes, the proposed scheme could cover the area along the feed fiber with no blind zone. The experimental results show that it could be an ideal solution for the next generation access networks.展开更多

However, the centralized networking with fixed resource scheduling is not suitable for MWNs due to the special environment. In this paper,we introduce the collaborative relay communication in distributed MWNs to improve the link reliability, and propose an orthogonal time-frequency resource block reservation based multiple access(RRMA) scheme for both one-hop direct link and two-hop collaborative relay link to reduce the interference. To further improve the network performance, we formulate an energy efficiency(EE) maximization resource allocation problem and solve it by an iterative algorithm based on the Dinkelbach method. Finally, numerical results are provided to investigate the proposed RRMA scheme and resource allocation algorithm, showing that the low outage probability and transmission delay can be attained by the proposed RRMA scheme. Moreover, the proposed resource allocation algorithm is capable of achieving high EE in distributed MWNs.展开更多

Different from most previous analytical studies based on the saturation assumption, we extend the analytical model to non-saturation conditions. An empty state is introduced into the Markov chain to represent the status of transmission queue being empty. This model can be used to calculate the traffic priority, throughput, and MAC layer delay with various configurations of contention parameters. A detailed simulation is provided to validate the proposed model. With the help of this model, the contention parameters can be configured appropriately to achieve specific quality-of-service (QoS) requirements.展开更多

In dynamic spectrum access networks, the cross-band interference between spectrally adjacent users is considered harmful with frequency guardbands inserted between spectrum blocks to eliminate the interference. However, the strength of the cross-band interference depends heavily on the user heterogeneity in different OFDM configurations. The cross-band interference due to the three user heterogeneity artifacts of power heterogeneity, sampling rate heterogeneity, and symbol length heterogeneity is investigated to determine the required guardband width. Analytical and simulation results show that the greater user heterogeneity requires larger guardbands with the sampling rate heterogeneity having the greatest effect. These results can be used to assist the design of spectrum allocation strategies.展开更多

In the proposed approach, the most complex functions, including the beamforming network, are implemented in a central office, reducing the complexity and cost of remote antenna units. Different cores in a multi-core fiber are used to distribute the modulated signals to high-speed photodetectors acting as heterodyne mixers. The mm-wave carrier frequency is fixed to 50 GHz(VBand), thereby imposing a progressive delay between antenna elements of a few picoseconds. That true time delay is achieved with an accuracy lower than 1 ps and low phase noise.展开更多

An enhanced distributed channel access analytical model is used to compute the maximum number of admitted users according to the QoS requirements and the packet arrival characters. Then, some channel resources are reserved for handoff calls based on the maximum number of admitted users and the call-level traffic model. The channel utilization ratio is also measured to reflect the current system traffic load. The maximum number of admitted users and the channel utilization ratio are used for admission control for applications with QoS requirements in the call level and for rate control of best effort applications in the packet level using the p-nonacknowledgement scheme. Thus, the QoS requirements are statistically guaranteed while the system is efficiently utilized. Simulations validate the effectiveness of this mechanism to guarantee the QoS and bandwidth utilization.展开更多
