The escalating deployment of distributed power sources and random loads in DC distribution networks hasamplified the potential consequences of faults if left uncontrolled. To expedite the process of achieving an optimalconfiguration of measurement points, this paper presents an optimal configuration scheme for fault locationmeasurement points in DC distribution networks based on an improved particle swarm optimization algorithm.Initially, a measurement point distribution optimization model is formulated, leveraging compressive sensing. The model aims to achieve the minimum number of measurement points while attaining the best compressivesensing reconstruction effect. It incorporates constraints from the compressive sensing algorithm and networkwide viewability. Subsequently, the traditional particle swarm algorithm is enhanced by utilizing the Haltonsequence for population initialization, generating uniformly distributed individuals. This enhancement reducesindividual search blindness and overlap probability, thereby promoting population diversity. Furthermore, anadaptive t-distribution perturbation strategy is introduced during the particle update process to enhance the globalsearch capability and search speed. The established model for the optimal configuration of measurement points issolved, and the results demonstrate the efficacy and practicality of the proposed method. The optimal configurationreduces the number of measurement points, enhances localization accuracy, and improves the convergence speedof the algorithm. These findings validate the effectiveness and utility of the proposed approach. 展开更多

During faults in a distribution network, the output power of a distributed generation(DG)may be uncertain. Moreover, the output currents of distributed power sources are also affected by the output power, resulting in uncertainties in the calculation of the short-circuit current at the time of a fault.Additionally, the impacts of such uncertainties around short-circuit currents will increase with the increase of distributed power sources. Thus,it is very important to develop a method for calculating the short-circuit current while considering the uncertainties in a distribution network. In this study,an affine arithmetic algorithm for calculating short-circuit current intervals in distribution networks with distributed power sources while considering power fluctuations is presented. The proposed algorithm includes two stages. In the first stage, normal operations are considered to establish a conservative interval affine optimization model of injection currents in distributed power sources.Constrained by the fluctuation range of distributed generation power at the moment of fault occurrence, the model can then be used to solve for the fluctuation range of injected current amplitudes in distributed power sources. The second stage is implemented after a malfunction occurs. In this stage,an affine optimization model is first established. This model is developed to characterizes the short-circuit current interval of a transmission line, and is constrained by the fluctuation range of the injected current amplitude of DG during normal operations. Finally, the range of the short-circuit current amplitudes of distribution network lines after a short-circuit fault occurs is predicted. The algorithm proposed in this article obtains an interval range containing accurate results through interval operation.Compared with traditional point value calculation methods, interval calculation methods can provide more reliable analysis and calculation results. The range of short-circuit current amplitude obtained by this algorithm is slightly larger than those obtained using the Monte Carlo algorithm and the Latin hypercube sampling algorithm. Therefore, the proposed algorithm has good suitability and does not require iterative calculations, resulting in a significant improvement in computational speed compared to the Monte Carlo algorithm and the Latin hypercube sampling algorithm.Furthermore, the proposed algorithm can provide more reliable analysis and calculation results, improving the safety and stability of power systems. 展开更多

The N-1 criterion is a critical factor for ensuring the reliable and resilient operation of electric power distribution networks. However, the increasing complexity of distribution networks and the associated growth in data size have created a significant challenge for distribution network planners. To address this issue,we propose a fast N-1 verification procedure for urban distribution networks that combines CIM file data analysis with MILP-based mathematical modeling. Our proposed method leverages the principles of CIM file analysis for distribution network N-1 analysis. We develop a mathematical model of distribution networks based on CIM data and transfer it into MILP.We also take into account the characteristics of medium voltage distribution networks after a line failure and select the feeder section at the exit of each substation with a high load rate to improve the efficiency of N-1 analysis. We validate our approach through a series of case studies and demonstrate its scalability and superiority over traditional N-1 analysis and heuristic optimization algorithms.By enabling online N-1 analysis, our approach significantly improves the work efficiency of distribution network planners. In summary, our proposed method provides a valuable tool for distribution network planners to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of their N-1 analyses.By leveraging the advantages of CIM file data analysis and MILP-based mathematical modeling, our approach contributes to the development of more resilient and reliable electric power distribution networks. 展开更多

The increasing proportion of distributed photovoltaics(DPVs)and electric vehicle charging stations in low-voltage distribution networks(LVDNs)has resulted in challenges such as distribution transformer overloads and voltage violations. To address these problems,we propose a coordinated planning method for flexible interconnections and energy storage systems(ESSs)to improve the accommodation capacity of DPVs.First, the power-transfer characteristics of flexible interconnection and ESSs are analyzed. The equipment costs of the voltage source converters(VSCs)and ESSs are also analyzed comprehensively, considering the differences in installation and maintenance costs for different installation locations.Second,a bilevel programming model is established to minimize the annual comprehensive cost and yearly total PV curtailment capacity.Within this framework, the upper-level model optimizes the installation locations and capacities of the VSCs and ESSs,whereas the lower-level model optimizes the operating power of the VSCs and ESSs.The proposed model is solved using a non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm with an elite strategy(NSGA-II).The effectiveness of the proposed planning method is validated through an actual LVDN scenario, which demonstrates its advantages in enhancing PV accommodation capacity. In addition, the economic benefits of various planning schemes with different flexible interconnection topologies and different PV grid-connected forms are quantitatively analyzed, demonstrating the adaptability of the proposed coordinated planning method. 展开更多

After suffering from a grid blackout, distributed energy resources(DERs), such as local renewable energy and controllable distributed generators and energy storage can be used to restore loads enhancing the system’s resilience. In this study, a multi-source coordinated load restoration strategy was investigated for a distribution network with soft open points(SOPs). Here, the flexible regulation ability of the SOPs is fully utilized to improve the load restoration level while mitigating voltage deviations. Owing to the uncertainty, a scenario-based stochastic optimization approach was employed, and the load restoration problem was formulated as a mixed-integer nonlinear programming model. A computationally efficient solution algorithm was developed for the model using convex relaxation and linearization methods. The algorithm is organized into a two-stage structure, in which the energy storage system is dispatched in the first stage by solving a relaxed convex problem. In the second stage, an integer programming problem is calculated to acquire the outputs of both SOPs and power resources. A numerical test was conducted on both IEEE 33-bus and IEEE 123-bus systems to validate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy. 展开更多

ADC distribution network is an effective solution for increasing renewable energy utilization with distinct benefits, such as high efficiency and easy control. However,a sudden increase in the current after the occurrence of faults in the network may adversely affect network stability. This study proposes an artificial neural network(ANN)-based fault detection and protection method for DC distribution networks. The ANN is applied to a classifier for different faults ontheDC line. The backpropagationneuralnetwork is used to predict the line current, and the fault detection threshold is obtained on the basis of the difference between the predicted current and the actual current. The proposed method only uses local signals, with no requirement of a strict communication link.Simulation experiments are conducted for the proposed algorithm on a two-terminal DC distribution network modeled in the PSCAD/EMTDC and developed on the MATLAB platform. The results confirm that the proposed method can accurately detect and classify line faults within a few milliseconds and is not affected by fault locations, fault resistance, noise, and communication delay. 展开更多

Recently, implementation of Battery Energy Storage(BES)with photovoltaic(PV)array in distribution networks is becoming very popular in overall the world.Integrating PV alone in distribution networks generates variable output power during 24-hours as it depends on variable natural source.PV can be able to generate constant output power during 24-hours by installing BES with it.Therefore, this paper presents a new application of a recent metaheuristic algorithm, called Slime Mould Algorithm(SMA),to determine the best size, and location of photovoltaic alone or with battery energy storage in the radial distribution system(RDS).This algorithm is modeled from the behavior of SMA in nature.During the optimization process, the total active power loss during 24-hours is used as an objective function considering the equality and inequality constraints. In addition, the presented function is based on the probabilistic for PV output and different types of system load. The candidate buses for integrating PV and BES in the distribution network are determined by the real power loss sensitivity factor(PLSF).IEEE 69-bus RDS with different types of loads is used as a test system. The effectiveness of SMA is validated by comparing its results with those obtained by other well-known optimization algorithms. 展开更多

Network reconfiguration and capacitor switching are important measures to reduce power loss and improve security and economy in automation of distribution. A new method based on parallel genetic algorithm is proposed to search the whole problem space for better solution. Multiple populations evolve independently and communicate periodically, which simulates parallel computing process to save computing time. The results show that the method is robust and has better benefit than the alterative iteration method. In addition, the effect of overall optimization is better than optimization alone. This study aims to address the feasibility of planned islanding operation and to investigate the effect of unplanned islanding using the master-slave islanding method for controlling the distributed generation units during grid-connected and islanding operation. Neplan desktop power simulation tool was used for the modelling and simulation of a realistic MV network with four different distributed generation technologies (diesel, gas, hydro and wind) along with their excitation and governor control systems, while an exponential model was used to represent the loads in the network. The dynamic and steady state behavior of the four distributed generation technologies were investigated during grid-connected operation and two transition modes to the islanding situation, planned and unplanned. The obtained results that validated through various case studies have shown that a suitable planned islanding transition could provide support to critical loads at the event of electricity utility outages. 展开更多

The AC/DC hybrid distribution network is one of the trends in distribution network development, which poses great challenges to the traditional distribution transformer. In this paper, a new topology suitable for AC/DC hybrid distribution network is put forward according to the demands of power grid, with advantages of accepting DG and DC loads, while clearing DC fault by blocking the clamping double sub-module(CDSM) of input stage. Then, this paper shows the typical structure of AC/DC distribution network that is hand in hand. Based on the new topology, this paper designs the control and modulation strategies of each stage, where the outer loop controller of input stage is emphasized for its twocontrol mode. At last, the rationality of new topology and the validity of control strategies are verified by the steady and dynamic state simulation. At the same time, the simulation results highlight the role of PET in energy regulation. 展开更多

Urban water supply network is a modern urban survival and development of the infrastructure of a city, and its normal running conditions have important significance. The actual hydraulic process in the variableload water distribution networks can be treated as the slow transient flow which belongs to the unsteady flow. This paper analyzes the multi-loops network slow transient model based on graph theory, and the link flow matrix is treated as the variables of the discrete solution model to simulate the process of the slow transient flow in the network. With the simulation of hydraulic regime in an actual pipe network, the changing laws of the flow in the pipes, nodal hydraulic heads and other hydraulic factors with the passage of time are obtained. Since the transient processes offer much more information than a steady process, the slow transient theory is not only practical on analyzing the hydraulic condition of the network, but also on identifying hydraulic resistance coefficients of pipes and detecting the leakage in networks. 展开更多

Transition towards carbon-neutral power systems has necessitated optimization of power dispatch in active distribution networks(ADNs)to facilitate integration of distributed renewable generation.Due to unavailability of network topology and line impedance in many distribution networks, physical model-based methods may not be applicable to their operations. To tackle this challenge, some studies have proposed constraint learning, which replicates physical models by training a neural network to evaluate feasibility of a decision(i.e.,whether a decision satisfies all critical constraints or not).To ensure accuracy of this trained neural network, training set should contain sufficient feasible and infeasible samples. However, since ADNs are mostly operated in a normal status, only very few historical samples are infeasible. Thus, the historical dataset is highly imbalanced, which poses a significant obstacle to neural network training. To address this issue,we propose an enhanced constraint learning method.First,it leverages constraint learning to train a neural network as surrogate of ADN's model. Then,it introduces Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique to generate infeasible samples to mitigate imbalance of historical dataset.By incorporating historical and synthetic samples into the training set,we can significantly improve accuracy of neural network.Furthermore,we establish a trust region to constrain and thereafter enhance reliability of the solution.Simulations confirm the benefits of the proposed method in achieving desirable optimality and feasibility while maintaining low computational complexity. 展开更多

The limitations of the conventional master-slavesplitting(MSS)method,which is commonly applied to power flow and optimal power flow in integrated transmission and distribution(I-T&D)networks,are first analyzed.Considering that the MSS method suffers from a slow convergence rate or even divergence under some circumstances,a least-squares-based iterative(LSI)method is proposed.Compared with the MSS method, the LSI method modifies the iterative variables in each iteration by solving a least-squares problem with the information in previous iterations.A practical implementation and a parameter tuning strategy for the LSI method are discussed.Furthermore,a LSI-PF method is proposed to solve I-T&D power flow and a LSIheterogeneous decomposition(LSI-HGD)method is proposed to solve optimal power flow.Numerical experiments demonstrate that the proposed LSI-PF and LSI-HGD methods can achieve the same accuracy as the benchmark methods.Meanwhile, these LSI methods, with appropriate settings, significantly enhance the convergence and efficiency of conventional methods. Also,in some cases, where conventional methods diverge, these LSI methods can still converge. 展开更多

Sparse measurements challenge fault location in distribution networks. This paper proposes a method for asymmetric ground fault location in distribution networks with limited measurements.A virtual injected current vector is formulated to estimate the fault line, which can be reconstructed from voltage sags measured at a few buses using compressive sensing(CS).The relationship between the virtual injected current ratio(VICR)and fault position is deduced from circuit analysis to pinpoint the fault.Furthermore,a two-stage recovery strategy is proposed for improving reconstruction accuracy of the current vector, where two different sensing matrixes are utilized to improve the incoherence. The proposed method is validated in IEEE 34 node test feeder.Simulation results show asymmetric ground fault type, resistance, fault position and access of distributed generators(DGs)do not significantly influence performance of our method. In addition,it works effectively under various scenarios of noisy measurement and line parameter error.Validations on 134 node test feeders prove the proposed method is also suitable for systems with more complex structure. 展开更多

A high proportion of renewable energy affects the power quality of distribution networks, and surplus energy will be sold to the upstream grid at a low price. In this paper, considering peer-to-peer energy transactions, the energy router-based multiple distribution networks are analyzed to solve the above problems and realize collaborative consumption of renewable energy.Presently, the investing cost of an energy router is high, and research on the economic operation of energy routers in distribution networks is little. Therefore, this paper establishes a planning model for energy routers considering peer-to-peer energy transactions among distribution networks, and explores the benefits of peer-to-peer energy transactions through energy router based multiple distribution networks.A structure of an energy router suitable for peer-to-peer energy transactions is selected, and a power flow calculation model based on a multilayer structure is established. The energy router’s scheduling model is established, and unique functions of the energy router and revenue of each distribution network are considered.A power flow calculation model based on peer-to-peer interconnection of multiple distribution networks through energy routers is also established. Finally, simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed planning model. Results show that peer-topeer energy transaction among distribution networks through energy routers can effectively reduce the comprehensive cost of distribution networks, significantly improve the power quality of the distribution networks, and reduce the impact of power fluctuation on the upstream grid incurred by the distribution network. 展开更多

The increasing integration of intermittent renewable energy sources(RESs)poses great challenges to active distribution networks(ADNs),such as frequent voltage fluctuations. This paper proposes a novel ADN strategy based on multiagent deep reinforcement learning(MADRL),which harnesses the regulating function of switch state transitions for the realtime voltage regulation and loss minimization. After deploying the calculated optimal switch topologies, the distribution network operator will dynamically adjust the distributed energy resources(DERs)to enhance the operation performance of ADNs based on the policies trained by the MADRL algorithm.Owing to the model-free characteristics and the generalization of deep reinforcement learning, the proposed strategy can still achieve optimization objectives even when applied to similar but unseen environments.Additionally, integrating parameter sharing(PS)and prioritized experience replay(PER)mechanisms substantially improves the strategic performance and scalability. This framework has been tested on modified IEEE 33-bus,IEEE 118-bus,and three-phase unbalanced 123-bus systems. The results demonstrate the significant real-time regulation capabilities of the proposed strategy. 展开更多

This paper proposes a new method for service restoration of distribution network with the support of transportable power sources(TPSs)and repair crews(RCs).Firstly,a coupling model of distribution networks and vehicle routing of TPSs and RCs is proposed, where the TPSs serve as emergency power supply sources, and the RCs are used to repair the faulted lines.Considering the uncertainty of traffic congestion, the probability distribution of the travel time spent on each road is derived based on the Nesterov user equilibrium model, and a two-stage stochastic program is formulated to determine the optimal routings of TPSs and RCs.To efficiently solve the proposed stochastic mixed-integer linear program(MILP),a two-phase scenario reduction method is then developed to scale down the problem size, and an adaptive progressive hedging algorithm is used for an efficient solution. The effectiveness of the proposed methods and algorithms has been illustrated in a modified IEEE 33-bus system. 展开更多
