The present work explored the synergistic effect of non-thermal plasma( NTP) and biological wastewater treatment technologies on practical dye wastewater degradation by establishing a double dielectric barrier discharge( DDBD) system combined with a sequencing batch reactor( SBR) system. The biodegradation and degradation efficiency of the DDBD-SBR system was investigated. The investigation results indicated that the DDBD technology was effective in treating the practical dye wastewater as a pre-treatment process. After a 10-min treatment, although the total organic carbon( TOC) removal efficiency was not so significant, the decolouration and the biodegradation were improved greatly. The microbial toxicity test revealed that the sample after degradation became less toxic than the original dye, which demonstrated the treatment had a significant effect on the reduction of toxicity. In addition, the SBR technology remedied the defects of DDBD treatment and improved TOC removal efficiency noticeably. The hybrid DDBD-SBR system made full use of the advantages of the individual technologies and exhibited an efficient capability for practical dye wastewater treatment.展开更多

Tunneling transmission coefficient and density of states are analyzed by using the non-equilibrium Green's function approach based on the finite difference method. It is found that the resonant peak of the transmission coefficient, being unity for a symmetrical case, reduces under the applied electric field and depends strongly on the variation of the structure parameters.展开更多

At enough large bias, 1/f noise dominates the voltage noise power spectra in the low frequency region, and is conventionally characterized by the Hooge parameter αmag. With increasing external field, the top and bottom ferromagnetic layers are aligned by the field, and then the middle free layer rotates from antiparallel state(antiferromagnetic coupling between top and middle ferromagnetic layers) to parallel state. In this rotation process αmag and magnetoresistance-sensitivity-product show a linear dependence, consistent with the fluctuation dissipation relation. With the magnetic field applied at different angles(θ) to the easy axis of the free layer, the linear dependence persists while the intercept of the linear fit satisfies a cos(θ) dependence, similar to that for the magnetoresistance, suggesting intrinsic relation between magnetic losses and magnetoresistance.展开更多

Because the pricing formula for pricing barrier options with discrete observations cannot avoid computing a high dimensional integral, numerical calculation is time-consuming. In the current studies, some scholars just obtained theoretical derivation, or gave some simulation calculations. Others impose underlying assets on some strong assumptions, for example, a lot of calculations are based on the Black-Scholes model. This thesis considers Merton jump diffusion model as the basic model to derive the pricing formula of discrete double barrier option;numerical calculation method is used to approximate the continuous convolution by calculating discrete convolution. Then we compare the results of theoretical calculation with simulation results by Monte Carlo method, to verify their efficiency and accuracy. By comparing the results of degeneration constant parameter model with the results of previous models we verified the calculation method is correct indirectly. Compared with the Monte Carlo simulation method, the numerical results are stable. Even if we assume the simulation results are accurate, the time consumed by the numerical method to achieve the same accuracy is much less than the Monte Carlo simulation method.展开更多

The guided modes can only exist in the case of Klein tunneling, and the fundamental mode is absent. The guided modes in the single-barrier waveguide split into symmetric and antisymmetric modes with different incident angles in the double-barrier waveguide. The phase difference between electron states and hole states is also discussed. The phase difference for the two splitting modes is close to each other and increases with the order of guided modes. These phenomena can be helpful for the potential applications in graphene-based optoelectronic devices.展开更多

Based on the ballistic electron transport and the asymmetrical transmission, we derive the expressions of the performance parameters of this refrigerator. The cooling rate rather than the coefficient of performance is affected by the area of the inner cylinder. Then through the numerical simulation, a triangular cooling rate region is found with respect to the chemical potential and bias voltage; further, that it is because of the small full width at half maximum of the transmission resonance and the linear relationship between the energy position of resonance and the bias voltage. These tunable results might supply some guide to the cooling in tiny components or devices.展开更多

In the linear case, we find that the stable spots of the soliton formation are at the top of the barrier potential and at the region of barrier potential absence. For weak nonlinearity, it is shown that the height of the barrier potential has an important effect on the dark soliton dynamical properties. Especially, in the case of regarding a double-barrier potential as the output source of the solitons, the collision spots between two dark solitons can be controlled by the height of the barrier potential.展开更多

However, for food packaging paperboard lacks essential barrier properties towards oxygen and water vapor. Conventional solutions to enhance these barrier properties (e.g. paperboard film coating with synthetic polymers) require special manufacturing facilities and difficult the end-of-life disposal and recycling of the paperboard. Paperboard coating with silica-based formulations is an eco-friendly alternative hereby disclosed. Silica-nanocoatings were prepared by sol-gel synthesis, with or without the addition of Zn(2)-Al-NO3 layered double hydroxides (LDHs), and applied on the surface (ca 2 g/m2) of industrial paperboard samples by a roll-to-roll technique. The physicochemical features of silica-nanocoatings were studied by FTIR-ATR, SEM/EDS, XRD analysis and surface energy measurements. The barrier properties of uncoated and silica-coated paperboard were accessed by water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) and oxygen permeability (Jo2) measurements. The best barrier results were obtained for paperboard coated with a mixture of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) and 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES), with and without the incorporation of LDHs.展开更多

In order to improve the stability and uniformity of atmospheric-pressure dielectric barrier discharges, studies on tem- poral behaviors and radial structure of discharges with strong nonlinear behaviors under different controlling parameters are much desirable. In this paper, a two-dimensional fluid model is devel- oped to simulate the radial discharge structure of period-doubling bifurcation, chaos, and inverse period-doubling bifurcation in an atmospheric-pressure DBD. The results show that the period-2n (n = 1, 2... ) and chaotic discharges exhibit nonuniform discharge structure. In period-2n or chaos, not only the shape of current pulses doesn't remains exactly the same from one cycle to an- other, but also the radial structures, such as discharge spatial evolution process and the strongest breakdown region, are different in each neighboring discharge event. Current-voltage characteris- tics of the discharge system are studied for further understanding of the radial structure.展开更多
