Analysis of the Pragmatic Functions of Double Negative

Double negative in English has three functions： to strengthen the affirmatives, and to affirm euphemism and to strengthen the negative meaning, which are analyzed in the present paper.

Reconstitution of double-negative T cells after cord blood transplantation and its predictive value for acute graft-versus-host disease

Background:With an increasing number of patients with hematological malignancies being treated with umbilical cord blood transplantation(UCBT),the correlation between immune reconstitution(IR)after UCBT and graft-versus-host disease(GVHD)has been reported successively,but reports on double-negative T(DNT)cell reconstitution and its association with acute GVHD(aGVHD)after UCBT are lacking.Methods:A population-based observational study was conducted among 131 patients with hematological malignancies who underwent single-unit UCBT as their first transplant at the Department of Hematology,the First Affiliated Hospital of USTC,between August 2018 and June 2021.IR differences were compared between the patients with and without aGVHD.Results:The absolute number of DNT cells in the healthy Chinese population was 109(70-157)/μL,accounting for 5.82(3.98-8.19)%of lymphocytes.DNT cells showed delayed recovery and could not reach their normal levels even one year after transplantation.Importantly,the absolute number and percentage of DNT cells were significantly higher in UCBT patients without aGVHD than in those with aGVHD within one year(F=4.684,P=0.039 and F=5.583,P=0.026,respectively).In addition,the number of DNT cells in the first month after transplantation decreased significantly with the degree of aGVHD increased,and faster DNT cell reconstitution in the first month after UCBT was an independent protective factor for aGVHD(HR=0.46,95%confidence interval[CI]:0.23-0.93;P=0.031).Conclusions:Compared to the number of DNT cells in Chinese healthy people,the reconstitution of DNT cells in adults with hematological malignancies after UCBT was slow.In addition,the faster reconstitution of DNT cells in the early stage after transplantation was associated with a lower incidence of aGVHD.

Eye movements during inspecting pictures of natural scenes for information to verify sentences

As eye tracking can be used to record moment-to-moment changes of eye movements as people inspect pictures of natural scenes and comprehend information, this paper attempts to use eye-movement technology to investigate how the order of presentation and the characteristics of information affect the semantic mismatch effect in the picture-sentence paradigm. A 3（syntax）×2（semantic relation） factorial design is adopted, with syntax and semantic relations as within-participant variables. The experiment finds that the semantic mismatch is most likely to increase cognitive loads as people have to spend more time, including first-pass time, regression path duration, and total fixation duration. Double negation does not significantly increase the processing difficulty of pictures and information. Experimental results show that people can extract the special syntactic strategy from long-term memory to process pictures and sentences with different semantic relations. It enables readers to comprehend double negation as affirmation. These results demonstrate that the constituent comparison model may not be a general model regarding other languages.

Compact Metamaterial Antenna with High Directivity for Bio-Medical Systems

In this paper, high directive antenna using metamaterial property is presented for wireless medical systems. The antenna is constructed by semi-circular patch and hexagonal closed ring resonator (HCRR). For medical applications such as wireless patient movement monitoring, telemetry and telemedicine, communication devices working at ISM band frequency is needed. Here, the requirement is completed with improved directivity such as 16 dBi. And also impedance matching also achieved with low reflection loss -20 dB. This antenna works for multiple frequency bands (Industrial, Scientific and Medical-ISM 2.45 GHz, WLAN 5.3 GHz and GSM 1.9 GHz) with improved directivity.

A New Technique for The Therapy of Complicated Deep Tissue Infection(with 4 Cases)

Objective: The objective of this study was to discuss the effect of double perfusion cannula accompanied with low negative pressure drainage in the treatment of complexity of abdominopelvic and perineal infections. Methods: The technology of the double perfusion cannula accompanied with low negative pressure drainage was used to treat complexity of abdominopelvic and perineal infections. Results: Double perfusion cannula accompanied with low negative pressure drainage can be applied to the treatment of complexity of abdominopelvic and perineal infections. It has an obvious effect on infection control and reduces recovery time. Conclusion: Double perfusion cannula accompanied with low negative pressure drainage has a good effect on complexity of abdominopelvic and perineal infections; it can be used in wider surgical fields to prevent infections.
