Research on the Curriculum Construction by Promoting Teaching Using Competition Based on Bloom's Taxonomy of Educational Objectives

Based on Bloom's taxonomy of educational objectives,this paper puts forward the construction of curriculum system in the primary stage,intermediate stage and advanced stage by promoting teaching using competition,and provides a theoretical and practical basis for the curriculum construction by promoting teaching using competition,which is of great practical significance to promoting the construction of applied universities.

Short Text Mining for Classifying Educational Objectives and Outcomes

Most of the international accreditation bodies in engineering education(e.g.,ABET)and outcome-based educational systems have based their assess-ments on learning outcomes and program educational objectives.However,map-ping program educational objectives(PEOs)to student outcomes(SOs)is a challenging and time-consuming task,especially for a new program which is applying for ABET-EAC(American Board for Engineering and Technology the American Board for Engineering and Technology—Engineering Accreditation Commission)accreditation.In addition,ABET needs to automatically ensure that the mapping(classification)is reasonable and correct.The classification also plays a vital role in the assessment of students’learning.Since the PEOs are expressed as short text,they do not contain enough semantic meaning and information,and consequently they suffer from high sparseness,multidimensionality and the curse of dimensionality.In this work,a novel associative short text classification tech-nique is proposed to map PEOs to SOs.The datasets are extracted from 152 self-study reports(SSRs)that were produced in operational settings in an engineering program accredited by ABET-EAC.The datasets are processed and transformed into a representational form appropriate for association rule mining.The extracted rules are utilized as delegate classifiers to map PEOs to SOs.The proposed asso-ciative classification of the mapping of PEOs to SOs has shown promising results,which can simplify the classification of short text and avoid many problems caused by enriching short text based on external resources that are not related or relevant to the dataset.

A Comparative Study of General Education Between China’s and Singapore’s Universities

Along with the development of knowledgebased economy,interdisciplinary talents have received widespread attention.While teaching students professional knowledge,universities also focus on general education.By studying the education objectives and curriculum of China and Singapore,this paper makes a comparative analysis of the similarities and differences between UESTC and NTU in terms of general education objectives and curriculum design,so as to provide certain references for universities,especially science and engineering universities,and to further improve general education.

Graduate education of library science in China:Current status and recommendations for improvement

More than twenty years ago,Wuhan University and Nanjing University offered library science(LS)graduate programs.Since then,LS graduate education has been growing quickly in many aspects.At the same time,however,LS graduate education was also facing enormous challenges stemming from the dynamic development and wide applications of information technologies into the pedagogical arena of teaching and learning at all levels.Social evolution also made it necessary for LS educators to re-examine once again their graduate education model,curricular composition,educational philosophy and educational missions.In analyzing the present situation of LS graduate education in China,this paper focuses on the following issues:1)Growing size of LS graduate education(quantity and quality);2)educational objectives,including research direction and placement for graduates;3)structure of knowledge and curricular construction;4)conditions of administering a library school of high quality and 5)the management of teaching resources.The keystone of this paper is to pinpoint where current library science curricular deficiencies are lying.It is hoped that more serious scholarly discussions and perhaps also even concerted efforts among LS scholars and library practioners may be evoked in having the graduate education system of library and information science thoroughly realigned for the informational needs of the 21st century.

Strategies for Designing Online Course Assignments: Based on “XuetangX” Course Samples

Assignments are an important tool to evaluate learners’learning effectiveness in online courses.Clarifying assignment design strategies is of great significance for promoting the quality construction of online education courses.This paper uses Bloom’s taxonomy framework revised by Anderson and Krathwohl(2001)as a reference to label the knowledge types and cognitive dimensions in the assignment context of eight courses.Combined with a literature review,a discipline–objective–schedule(DOS)three-dimensional analysis framework based on the achievement of curriculum objectives,the design of chapter schedule,and the heterogeneity of disciplines is constructed to conduct an in-depth analysis of online course assignment design strategies.The research findings show that the online course assignment design strategy has an obvious curriculum objective orientation,follows the gradual learning rule,and presents typical disciplinary differences.The study finds that the current assignment design of online courses has three issues:first,a mismatch between assignment design and curriculum objectives;second,a lack of diversity in assignment formats;and third,insufficient comprehensiveness of some subject assignments.Based on the above discussions,corresponding suggestions are provided.
