This study investigated the perceptions of English educators and supervisors in Jeddah Governorate regarding the process of teaching English to elementary students.A survey was conducted using a sample size of 94 educators and 10 supervisors. The data indicate that respondents considered English instruction at the elementary level essential for expanding kids’perspectives, improving academic performance, and promoting international involvement. The main advantages cited are the development of English language skills and the promotion of early education.Although not as easily noticeable, the disadvantages include potential negative impacts on an individual’s proficiency in Arabic and their sense of national identification. The highlighted challenges encompass insufficient teacher training, student reluctance towards English, limited resources, and school disparities. The proposed techniques focused on prioritizing English instructors’training, ensuring the use of appropriate content, utilizing technology, and promoting awareness of students and educators. The current research found different obstacles in teaching English at elementary stages. To overcome these obstacles,it will be essential to enhance teacher competencies, develop efficient teaching methods, get the backing of stakeholders, assign adequate resources, and carry out continuous evaluations.Further research can also contribute to a better understanding of how early English learning impacts on Arabic identity and proficiency. 展开更多

Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)education plays a crucial role in cultivating TCM talents and preserving the profound cultural heritage of the Chinese nation. This paper explores the current situation and problems of TCM education and proposes philosophical reflections on this issue. The analysis shows that the current TCM education faces various challenges, including an unbalanced curriculum,a narrow teaching approach,a lack of practical experience, and an insufficient number of qualified teachers. To enhance the teaching effectiveness and foster a new generation of high-quality Chinese medicine professionals,it is necessary to reform the teaching methods of TCM and integrate the depth of humanities into the teaching process. The paper argues that a philosophical perspective can provide a more comprehensive understanding of TCM education and its role in the development of Chinese medicine. 展开更多

Student engagement in a clinical learning environment is a vital component in the curricula of pre-licensure nursing students, providing an opportunity to combine cognitive, psychomotor, and affective skills. This paper is significant in Arab world as there is a lack of knowledge, attitude and practice of student involvement in the new clinical learning environment. The purpose of this review article is to describe the experiences and perspectives of the nurse educator in facilitating pre-licensure nursing students’ engagement in the new clinical learning environment. The review suggests that novice students prefer actual engagement in clinical learning facilitated through diversity experiences, shared learning opportunities, student-faculty interaction and active learning. They expressed continuous supervision, ongoing feedback, interpersonal relationship and personal support from nurse educators useful in the clinical practice. However, the value of this review lies in a better understanding of what constitutes quality clinical learning environment from the students’ perspective of engagement in evidence-based nursing, reflective practice, e-learning and simulated case scenarios facilitated by the nurse educators. This review is valuable in planning and implementing innovative clinical and educational experiences for improving the quality of the clinical teaching-learning environment. 展开更多

Objective To get a general picture of the attitudes of middle school educators on sex and reproductive health education. Methods A cross-sectional survey was carried out among 144 middle school educators in three districts of Shanghai from September to October 2005 using anonymous self-administered questionnaire. Results The majority of the educators thought that it was necessary to launch the sex and reproductive health education in all of the middle schools in Shanghai (97. 02%). They were aware that the age of the students'puberty were earlier now than before (94.41%), but the reproductive health knowledge of students was neither sufficient nor correct (78.34%). The sex and reproductive health education had been involved in the curriculum of many middle schools (66.11%). Lacking of qualified education staffs contributed most (90. 71%) in the schools which had not launched the sex and reproductive health education. Lacking of qualified education staffs (90.91%) challenged most in the schools which had carried the education. Conclusion The middle school educators thought it was necessary to carry the sex and reproductive health education in all of the middle schools in Shanghai while the major challenges were lacking of qualified education staffs and sufficient teaching time. 展开更多

In this article we reported selected findings of a hermeneutic phenomenological study which explored the clinical learning experience of undergraduate nursing students in Malawi. The setting for the study was a university nursing college and the sample was selected purposively, consisting of thirty participants. Conversational interviews were conducted and a framework developed by modifying Colaizzi’s procedural steps guided the phenomenological analysis. The study findings reflect students’ perspectives on what the ideal role of a nurse educator in Malawi should entail. Contrary to most of the literature from western countries, the findings strongly indicate the need for nurse educators to teach students during clinical placements by engaging in hands-on-care. Additionally, the study also indicates the need for educators to view their role holistically by focusing on both academic and personal aspects of the students’ life. The study illustrates the need for connected educator-student relationships. 展开更多

There are inequities in cancer screening among people living in one large province in Canada;these include breast, cervical and colorectal cancer screening. The use of peer support or lay health educator models is often used in promoting health behaviours to communities. This paper outlines some of the conceptual understandings of peer support and lay health educator models and describes an application of a lay health educator program called Screening Saves Lives. The program structure and activities are discussed as well as lessons learned over a period of six years. Three key theoretical perspectives support the design of the model— Health Belief Model, Stages of Change model and PRECEDE model. The program has reached over 35,000 community members within one region using laypersons who are trained in providing tailored messages on cancer screening, supporting and follow-up. Additionally, the program has been a catalyst in identifying barriers to cancer screening and enables positive changes in the health care system. Screening Saves Lives is currently being scaled to other communities in the province. 展开更多

The research study aimed to identify the defining characteristics of a great Filipino nurse educator which have provided input in developing a theoretical model of a great Filipino nurse educator. This research is a qualitative study which employed a grounded theory methodology toward theory development. The road to greatness of a Filipino nurse educator is all attuned with the strongest core of being spiritual and patriotic that makes it very Filipino which demarcates a great Filipino nurse educator from what is not. Each characteristic is significant because all are important in describing what a great Filipino nurse educator is. One characteristic cannot be absent nor removed for it will not decipher the puzzle of what completes the defining characteristics of a great Filipino nurse educator. Total greatness is not an end product;it is an ongoing, deliberative process. Teacher’s greatness is a lifelong pursuit. Greatness is the result of many factors. 展开更多

Introduction: Although peer education is accepted as one of the most effective methods for sexual and reproductive health education, the feelings, thoughts and self-affection of peer educators are not very well known. Our aim is to investigate what it is like to be a peer educator. Methods: This phenomenological study was conducted in Izmir as a part of “Modern Stork Legends” project supported by the European Union. Two focus group interviews were made with 18 peer educators of the project. Data were analyzed with NVivo 8 BS software. Results: All of the students stated that they participate in the project “to enhance their knowledge” and “to inform their social circle”. They are concerned about the tasks and expectations, and anxious about the subject of counseling. They think that anything related with sexuality is taboo in Turkey and it was also the same for them. They observed that, gender defined roles are reflected on students’ behaviors and attitudes. Their tolerance in understanding of inhibitions and hesitations of their peers formed the basis of their success. They stated that working in this project helped them to overcome their prejudices and contributed their development in many ways. Conclusion: Peer educators internalize substantial amount of knowledge and gain self-confidence and important skills such as communication, problem solving and access to information. 展开更多
