Also this study developed a stress change and fracture development model of the underlying coal-rock mass. In addition, the stress and depth of fracture of any point in the floor were deduced with the application of Maple Calculation Software. The specific engineering parameters of the Pingdingshan No. 12 colliery were applied to determine the relationship between the depth of fracture in the floor and the mining height. The pressure-relief principle of the underlying coal-rock mass was analyzed while varying the mining height of the upper protective seam. The findings indicate that as the depth of fracture in the floor increases, the underlying coal-rock mass experiences a limited amount of pressure relief, and the pressure relief protection range becomes narrower.Additionally, the stress distribution evolves from a ‘‘U" shape into a ‘‘V" shape. A 2.0 m mining height of protective seam situates the outburst-prone seam, Ji_(15), within the effective pressure relief protection range. The fracture development and stress-relief ratio rises to 88%, ensuring the pressure-relief effect as well as economic benefits. The measurement data show that: after mining the upper protective seam, the gas pressure of Ji_(15) dropped from 1.78 to 0.35 MPa, demonstrating agreement between the engineering application and the theoretical calculation.展开更多

Growth of U. pertusa and G. filicina was inhibited by UV-B irradiation in mono-culture and specific growth rate (μ) declined as a result. Interspecific competition between U. pertusa and G filicina was closely related to the initial weights when co-cultured. When the initial U:G ratio was 1:1.2, G. filicina was competitively dominant in the earlier stage, but U. pertusa grew faster, superseding G. filicina in the later stage. At initial ration U:G = 1:1.4, G. filicina was predominant. Under UV-B irradiation, the competitive ability of G filicina was weakened and the interspecific competitive balance favored U. pertusa, which suggests that G. filicina was more sensitive to UV-B irradiation. We also probed the potential allelopathic effects between the two species, which led to mutual growth inhibition.展开更多

However, there is limited knowledge concerning the variation in competitive effect and response of different species along climatic gradients. In this study, we investigated the importance of climate, tree size, and competition on the growth of three tree species: spruce(Picea abies), fir(Abies alba), and beech(Fagus sylvatica), and examined their competitive response and effect along a climatic gradient. Methods: We selected 39 plots distributed across the European mountains with records of the position and growth of 5,759 individuals. For each target species, models relating tree growth to tree size, climate and competition were proposed. Competition was modelled using a neighbourhood competition index that considered the effects of inter-and intraspecific competition on target trees. Competitive responses and effects were related to climate.Likelihood methods and information theory were used to select the best model. Results: Our findings revealed that competition had a greater impact on target species growth than tree size or climate. Climate did influence the competitive effects of neighbouring species, but it did not affect the target species? response to competition. The strength of competitive effects varied along the gradient, contingent on the identity of the interacting species. When the target species exhibited an intermediate competitive effect relative to neighbouring species, both higher inter-than intraspecific competitive effects and competition reduction occurred along the gradient. Notably, species competitive effects were most pronounced when the target species' growth was at its peak and weakest when growing conditions were far from their maximum. Conclusions: Climate modulates the effects of competition from neighbouring trees on the target tree and not the susceptibility of the target tree to competition. The modelling approach should be useful in future research to expand our knowledge of how competition modulates forest communities across environmental gradients.展开更多

The vibration shows a strong coupling between the membrane and bending solutions: either the membrane drive or the bending drive causes motions of both the membrane type and bending type. Three interesting effects characteristic of the forced vibration emerge from the coupling nature: the non-bending effect, the inner-quiescent effect and the inner-membrane-motion-and-outer-bending-motion effect. These effects may have potential applications in engineering.展开更多

In this area, due to the small jet energy, there is no way to effectively remove the toxic and harmful gases produced in the driving process, which seriously affects the safety of the mine.?Therefore, the reasonable definition of the effective range of the forced local ventilation of the single head tunnel can not only improve the theory of the local ventilation of the mine, but also prevent the accumulation of gas and ensure the life safety of the employees. In this paper, the definition of effective range of local ventilation in single head heading face is put forward, and the rationality of the definition of effective range is verified by numerical simulation. On the basis of reasonable definition of effective range, the relationship between wind speed and effective range under different ventilation modes is studied by numerical simulation. The results show that when the wind speed at the outlet of the air duct is less than 20 m/s, the effective range changes rapidly with the outlet wind speed, and after more than 20 m/s, the effect of wind speed on the effective range is gradually weakened. Under the same exit wind speed, the effective range of parallel and coplanar air inlet is much greater than that of single air inlet.展开更多

Four reductions are to reduce soil erosion, carbon emission, salt content and heavy metal in soils. Five resistances refer to improve crop resistance capacity in terms of drought, high tem-perature, lower temperature, disease and lodging. Three improvements indicate to enhance photosynthetic efficiency over 10%, yield in 10%-30% and quality over 5%. lt is researched that without additional chemical fertilizer, yield could increase by 10% by labor force, animal, tractor or smash-ridging machine. What’s more, by smash-ridging cultivation, the depth can be 20 times or higher compared with tractor cultivation, with looser soils. lt is estimated that if smash-ridging cultivation is applied once in agricultural lands in China, present soil layers can be twice as deep as present. Specifical y, the thickness of loose soil-layers could be extended from 10-18 cm at present to 25-35 cm, and natural rainfal would increase by 40 bil ion cm3. After vitalization of soil nutrients, chemical fertilizer would decrease by 7 bil ion kg, and the increased c rops would feed more than 300 mil ion population as per yield at 7 50 kg/hm2.展开更多

Such a phenomenon is called the faster-is-slower effect(FIS) and it has been experimentally verified in different systems of particles flowing through an opening. In this paper, the numerical simulation based on discrete element method(DEM) is adopted to study a group of highly competitive people through an exit of varying widths. The FIS effect is observed for a narrow exit whilst it is not observed for the exit wide enough to accommodate two people through it side-by-side. Experimental validation of such a phenomenon with humans is difficult due to ethical issues. The mouse is a kind of self-driven and soft-body creature and it exhibits selfish behaviour under stressed conditions.Particles flowing through an opening in different systems, such as pedestrian flow, animal flow, silo flow, etc. have similar characteristics. Therefore, experimental study is conducted by driving mice to escape through an exit of different widths at varying levels of stimulus. The escape time through a narrow exit(i.e., 2 cm) increases obviously with the increase of stimulus level but it is quite opposite to a wider exit(i.e., 4 cm). The FIS effect is avoided for an exit wide enough to accommodate two mice passing through it side-by-side. The study illustrates that FIF effect could be effectively prevented for an exit when its width is twice the size of particles.展开更多

Studies on complex multi-species and highly structured forest ecosystems are scarce. Accordingly, the objective of this study was to quantify competition effects and analyse competition responses in a species-diverse afrotemperate forest in South Africa, based on an observational study with mapped tree positions and long-term diameter increment records. Methods: The sensitivity to competition was analysed for individual species and involved the calculation of the slope of the linear relation between the value of a competition index (CI) and diameter growth as a measure of sensitivity. In a next step different competition indices were combined and tree diameters were grouped in three classes as surrogates for canopy status and ontogenetic stage. Results: Five competition indices were found to be effective in showing sensitivity to competition for a number of canopy and sub-canopy species. Significant linear regressions were fitted for 18 of a total of 25 species. Species reactions varied significantly in their sensitivity to the different CIs. The indices were classified as belonging to two groups, those that responded more to local crowding and those that are more sensitive to overtopping, which revealed species-specific sensitivities to both factors. The analysis based on diameter classes revealed that species clearly changed their sensitivity to crowding or overtopping depending on diameter. Canopy and sub-canopy species showed distinct differences in their reactions. Conclusions: The application of multiple CIs brought novel insights relating to the dynamics of afrotemperate forests. The response patterns to different competition indices that focus on crowding and overtopping are varied and tree diameter dependent, indicating that oversimplified assumptions are not warranted in the interpretation of Cl- growth relations.展开更多

Our findings suggest that the interaction between selection effect and competition effect ultimately causes actual firm markup to be higher than the baseline markup by 7.11%. Exporting firms' actual markup is higher than the baseline markup by different degrees. In terms of the decomposition of selection effect, TFP explains for 28.05% of selection effect, and nonproductivity factors explain for the rest 71.95%. By controlling for the type of firms' export, the export-productivity paradox only exists for processing trade firms, which shows that with increasing trade facilitation, the policy incentives to encourage firms to export are major contributors to the low export markups.展开更多

Under UV-B irradiation, the competitive ability of G filicina was weakened and the interspecific competitive balance favored U. pertusa, which suggests that G. filicina was more sensitive to UV-B irradiation. We also probed the potential allelopathic effects between the two species, which led to mutual growth inhibition.

文摘Background: Understanding the role of species identity in interactions among individuals is crucial for assessing the productivity and stability of mixed forests over time. The modelling approach should be useful in future research to expand our knowledge of how competition modulates forest communities across environmental gradients.
文摘The electrochemical reduction of CO_(2)(eCO_(2)R)under ambient conditions is crucial for reducing carbon emissions and achieving carbon neutrality.Despite progress with alkaline and neutral electrolytes, their efficiency is limited by(bi)carbonates formation.Acidic media have emerged as a solution, addressing the(bi)carbonates challenge but introducing the issue of the hydrogen evolu-tion reaction(HER),which reduces CO_(2) conversion efficiency in acidic environments. This review focuses on enhancing the selectivity of acidic CO_(2) electrolysis. It commences with an overview of the latest advancements in acidic CO_(2) electrolysis, focusing on product selectivity and electrocatalytic activity enhancements. It then delves into the critical factors shaping selectivity in acidic CO_(2) electrolysis, with a special emphasis on the influence of cations and catalyst design. Finally, the research challenges and personal perspectives of acidic CO_(2) electrolysis are suggested.

文摘The forced vibration in the turning point frequency range of a truncated revolution shell subject to a membrane drive or a bending drive at its small end or large end is studied by applying the uniformly valid solutions obtained in a previous paper. These effects may have potential applications in engineering.

文摘Promoting the coupling coordination development of port and its hinterland city environments is an important way to improve urban economic competitiveness.Based on relevant data of 13 coastal port cities in eastern China from 2000 to 2018,this study explores the coupling coordination development of port and city environments and its impact on urban economic competitiveness by constructing the coupling coordination degree model and the panel threshold model. The research results show that:(1)In terms of the coupling coordination development of port and city environments, most coastal ports and their hinterland cities are in a state of moderate or serious disorder.Overall, the degree of coupling coordination of port and city environments needs to be further improved;(2)The coupling coordination degree of port and city environments has a significant impact on urban economic competitiveness, and this effect gradually increases with the development of the ports and the urban economy.Among the variables that impact the urban economic competitiveness, fixed assets investment and foreign trade are significant factors that can enhance urban economic competitiveness.(3)At present, there is a“U-shaped”relationship between the coupling coordination degree of port-city environments and the urban economic competitiveness. This relationship lies on the right side of the inflection point of the“U-shaped”curve.Therefore,following the concept of assigning priority to ecological development, expanding fixed assets investment and actively developing foreign trade can further enhance the urban economic competitiveness.
文摘The traditional research considers that the effective range of forced local ventilation in single head tunnel is the horizontal distance from the jet exit section to the rotary section, but there is a low wind speed area at the end of the range which can not completely and effectively release toxic and harmful gases. Under the same exit wind speed, the effective range of parallel and coplanar air inlet is much greater than that of single air inlet.

文摘Yuan Longping proposed that smash-ridging technology could be extend-ed widely nationwide. ln the research, smash-ridging technology reconstruct cultiva-tion layers with loose soils in agricultural fields, creating "4453" effects, as fol ows: "Four increases" include to increase loosen soil quantity in cultivation layers, soil nutri-ents use, "water pool" in soils, and "oxygen pool" in soils. After vitalization of soil nutrients, chemical fertilizer would decrease by 7 bil ion kg, and the increased c rops would feed more than 300 mil ion population as per yield at 7 50 kg/hm2.

文摘Fences are one of the most effective measures to prevent and control wind-blown sand disasters, and the blocking effect of fences is largely determined by their porosity and height(H).This study employed wind tunnel experiments to measure wind velocities on both sides of wire mesh sand fences with porosities of 75%,63%,56%,36%and heights of 10,5 and 2 cm.The effects of porosity and height on the blocking effect of the fences were evaluated on the basis of velocity variability, flow field, and the wind velocity reduction coefficient. Results show that the smaller the porosity, the stronger the blocking effect. The fence with a porosity of 36%had the strongest windproof efficiency of 0.70 and longest protection range of 9 H,and thus showed the best applicability in preventing and controlling wind-blown sand disasters. The fence with a porosity of 56%showed a windproof efficiency of 0.31 and a protection range of 7 H,which could be considered for adoption. However, fences with porosities of 75%and 63%were not recommended to be adopted, because their windproof efficiency and protection range were very small.Overall, the higher the fence, the stronger the blocking effect. The highest fence(10 cm)had the longest protection range of 90 cm,which was the best in application.Nevertheless, the 5 and 2 cm fences were almost consistent with 10 cm fence in windproof efficiency, which was still suitable for wind and sand fixation.

文摘A group of competitive people escaping through an exit could lead to the formation of a deadlock, which significantly increases the evacuation time. The study illustrates that FIF effect could be effectively prevented for an exit when its width is twice the size of particles.

文摘Background: Information about competition responses is mainly available for monospecific stands or mixed stands with a small number of species. The response patterns to different competition indices that focus on crowding and overtopping are varied and tree diameter dependent, indicating that oversimplified assumptions are not warranted in the interpretation of Cl- growth relations.

文摘A series of high quality single crystalline epitaxial Zn 0.95 Co 0.05 O thin films is prepared by molecular beam epitaxy.Superparamagnetism and ferromagnetism are observed when the donor density is manipulated in a range of 10 18 cm 3-10 20 cm 3 by changing the oxygen partial pressure during film growth. The conduction shows variable range hopping at low temperature and thermal activation conduction at high temperature. The ferromagnetism can be maintained up to room temperature. However, the anomalous Hall effect is observed only at low temperature and disappears above 160 K.This phenomenon can be attributed to the local ferromagnetism and the decreased optimal hopping distance at high temperatures.

文摘Based on China's industrial enterprises-customs matched data, this paper utilizes two-tier stochastic frontier analysis method to estimate and verify the extent to which selection effect and competition effect influence exporting firms' markup. By controlling for the type of firms' export, the export-productivity paradox only exists for processing trade firms, which shows that with increasing trade facilitation, the policy incentives to encourage firms to export are major contributors to the low export markups.

文摘How nutritional conditions during early development affect an organism’s phenotype at adulthood is still poorly understood despite a plethora of research on developmental plasticity. The"environmental matching"hypothesis predicts that individuals will have high fitness providing that their adult environment"matches"what they experienced during development. In contrast, the"silver spoon"hypothesis predicts that individuals who obtain better developmental resources will be generally superior. Here we tested these two hypotheses and examined the underlying hormonal mechanisms by manipulating the early dietary protein content of African clawed frogs(Xenopus laevis)for a year with a 2×2 factorial experimental design. We found that only a lowprotein food during development enhanced the vocal competition ability of male X.laevis, and that vocal dominance was associated with higher cortisol levels but not related with testosterone content. These results were not congruent with the"environmental matching"hypothesis or with the"silver spoon"hypothesis, suggesting the behavioral plasticity during development is more complex than our expectation in amphibians.

文摘This study investigates the changes in January diurnal temperature range(DTR) in China during 1961-2000.The observed DTR changes during 1981-2000 relative to 1961-80 are first analyzed based on the daily temperature data at 546 weather stations. These observed DTR changes are classified into six cases depending on the changes in daily maximum and minimum temperatures, and then the occurrence frequency and magnitude of DTR change in each case are presented.Three transient simulations are then performed to understand the impact of greenhouse gases(GHGs) and aerosol direct forcing on DTR change:one without anthropogenic radiative forcing, one with anthropogenic GHGs,and another one with the combined forcing of GHGs and five species of anthropogenic aerosols. The predicted daily DTR changes during the years 1981-2000 are also classified into six cases and are compared with the observations. Results show that the previously proposed reason for DTR reduction,a stronger nocturnal warming than a daytime warming, explains only 19.8%of the observed DTR reduction days.DTR reductions are found to generally occur in northeastern China, coinciding with significant regional warming. The simulation with GHG forcing alone reproduces this type of DTR reduction with an occurrence frequency of 32.9%,which is larger than the observed value.Aerosol direct forcing reduces DTR mainly by daytime cooling.Consideration of aerosol cooling improves the simulation of occurrence frequencies of different types of DTR changes as compared to the simulation with GHGs alone, but it cannot improve the prediction of the magnitude of DTR changes.
