An analytical study is presented on the modal dispersion characteristics, group velocity, and effective group, as well as the phase index of a ternary one dimensional plasma photonic crystal for an obliquely incident electromagnetic wave considering the effect of collisions in plasma layers. The dispersion relation is derived by using the transfer matrix method and the boundary conditions based on electromagnetic theory. The dispersion curves are plotted for both the normal photonic band gap structure and the absorption photonic band gap structure. It is found that the increase in the angle of incidence shifts the photonic band gap toward higher frequencies. Also, the cutoff frequency is independent of collisions. 展开更多

Modeling of instability and collision of nonlinear dust-acoustic(NDA) envelope solitons in strongly coupled dusty plasmas(SCDPs) is theoretically investigated. The SCDPs consists of strongly correlated negatively variable-charged dust grains and weakly correlated Boltzmann electrons and ions. Using the derivative expansion perturbation technique, a nonlinear Schr dinger-type(NLST) equation for describing the propagation of NDA envelope solitons is derived. Moreover, the extended Poincar′e–Lighthill–Kuo(EPLK) method is employed to deduce the analytical phase shifts and the trajectories after the collision of NDA envelope solitons. In detail, the results show that both modulation instability and phase shift after collision of NDA envelope solitons will modify with the increase in the effects of the viscosity, the relaxation time, and the dust charge fluctuation. Crucially, the modeling of dust-acoustic envelope solitons collision, as reported here, is helpful for understanding the propagation of NDA envelope solitons in strongly coupled dusty plasmas. 展开更多

Analytical equations of terahertz(THz)radiation generation based on beating of two laser beams in a warm collisional magnetized plasma with a ripple density profile are developed. In this regard, the effects of frequency chirp on the field amplitude of the terahertz radiation as well as the temperature and collision parameters are investigated. The ponderomotive force is generated in the frequency chirp of beams.Resonant excitation depends on tuning of the plasma beat frequency, magnetic field frequency, thermal velocity, collisional frequency, and effect of the frequency chirp with the plasma density. For optimum parameters of frequency and temperature the maximum THz amplitude is obtained. 展开更多

The stereodynamics of the reaction of Ca + HCl are calculated at three different collision energies based on the potential energy surface [Verbockhaven G et al. 2005 J. Chem. Phys. 122 204307] using quasi-classical trajectory theory. The polarization-dependent differential cross sections (PDDCSs) (2π/σ )(dσ 00 /dω t ), (2π/σ )(dσ 20 /dωt ), (2π/σ )(dσ 22+ /dωt ), (2π/σ )(dσ 21 /dω t ) and the distributions of P(θ r ), P(φr ), and P(θr ,φr ) are calculated. The results indicate that the rotational polarization of the CaCl product presents different characteristics for the different collision energies, and the effects of the collision energy on the vector potential, including the alignment, orientation, and PDDCSs, are not obvious. 展开更多

For the first time, the effect of ions on complex conductivity and permittivity of dusty plasma at Polar Mesosphere Summer Echoes(PMSE)altitude is analyzed.Because of ions higher mass and smaller thermal velocity, generally, their effects are not considered in the study of electromagnetic properties of dusty plasmas. In this study,we modified the equations of conductivity and permittivity by adding the effect of ions.In the PMSE altitude region between 80 and 90 km,a local reduction in electron density(i.e.,an electron biteout),is produced by electron absorption onto dust particles. The bite-out condition contains high dust density and smaller electron density. From simulation results in comparatively strong bite-out conditions,we found that the ion effects on conductivity become significant with smaller dust size, lower electron temperature, and lower neutral density. For comparatively weak bite-out conditions, the ion effects on conductivity become significant with larger dust size, higher electron temperature, and higher neutral density. On the other hand, for different dust sizes, electron temperatures and neutral density, the ion effects on complex permittivity become significant only in very strong bite-out conditions.Based on these simulation results,we conclude that,in the absence of electron bite-out conditions, the effect of ions on complex conductivity and permittivity is not significant and can be ignored. However, during bite-out conditions, the effect of ions becomes significant and cannot be ignored because it significantly changes the conductivity and permittivity of dusty plasmas. 展开更多

In this review, we examine the current theoretical and experimental status of the chiral magnetic effect. We discuss possible future strategies for resolving uncertainties in interpretation including recommendations for theoretical work, recommendations for measurements based on data collected in the past five years, and recommendations for beam use in the coming years of RHIC. We specifically investigate the case for colliding nuclear isobars(nuclei with the same mass but different charge) and find the case compelling. We recommend that a program of nuclear isobar collisions to isolate the chiral magnetic effect from background sources be placed as a high priority item in the strategy for completing the RHIC mission. 展开更多

There exist big gaps between measurements and modeling predictions on solids holdup and pressure drop in dense solids transport, such as those occuring in the bottom sections of gas-solids risers. The inability of closing this gap by common modeling approaches indicates certain missing and/or misrepresentation of some controlling mechanisms in modeling the transport. Previous research efforts show that the gap can not be effectively narrowed by simply modifying the drag force formulations without inclusion of the collision effect. This paper explores the origin of some controlling mechanisms that might have been overlooked in previous modeling approaches, and recommends how to make the model dense solids transport better. Our analysis shows the presence of a resistant force arising from inter-particle collision when the solids are accelerated in dense-phase transport. This may be caused by non-equilibrium collision during solids acceleration, which differs from local-equilibrium assumptions on which the current kinetic theory modeling of granular particles is based. A complete modeling of this collision-induced resistance calls for a total revision of the kinetic theory, with the inclusion of non-equilibrium collisions and offcenter collisions in dense solids transport. 展开更多

Recent measurements of charge-dependent azimuthal correlations in high-energy heavy-ion collisions have indicated charge-separation signals perpendicular to the reaction plane, and have been related to the chiral magnetic effect(CME). However, the correlation signal is contaminated with the background caused by the collective motion(flow) of the collision system, and an effective approach is needed to remove the flow background from the correlation. We present a method study with simplified Monte Carlo simulations and a multi-phase transport model, and develop a scheme to reveal the true CME signal via event-shape engineering with the flow vector of the particles of interest. 展开更多

From a classical dynamic simulation,we find the kinetic energy of the electrons generated during laser plasma generation depends on the laser polarization and intensity. The electron kinetic energy reaches its maximum with a fixed laser intensity for circularly polarized laser pulse. The fluorescence spectra at 380.4 nm from N2 and 391.3 nm from N2^+ are measured;these are generated by both the direct excitation and electron collision excitation. The electron collision excitation is determined by the electron energy and reaches the maximal with a circularly polarized pulse. 展开更多

The Chiral Magnetic Effect(CME) is a macroscopic manifestation of fundamental chiral anomaly in a many-body system of chiral fermions, and emerges as an anomalous transport current in the fluid dynamics framework. Experimental observation of the CME is of great interest and has been reported in Dirac and Weyl semimetals. Significant efforts have also been made to look for the CME in heavy ion collisions. Critically needed for such a search is the theoretical prediction for the CME signal. In this paper we report a first quantitative modeling framework, Anomalous Viscous Fluid Dynamics(AVFD), which computes the evolution of fermion currents on top of realistic bulk evolution in heavy ion collisions and simultaneously accounts for both anomalous and normal viscous transport effects. AVFD allows a quantitative understanding of the generation and evolution of CME-induced charge separation during the hydrodynamic stage, as well as its dependence on theoretical ingredients. With reasonable estimates of key parameters, the AVFD simulations provide the first phenomenologically successful explanation of the measured signal in 200 AGe V Au Au collisions. 展开更多
