While virtual nursing services attempt to provide consumers and medical practitioners with continuous medical and health monitoring services, access to allied healthcare expertssuch as nurses remains a challenge. In this research, we present Virtual NursingUsing Deep Belief Networks for Elderly People (DBN-EP), a new framework thatprovides a virtual nurse agent deployed on a senior citizen’s home, workplace, orcare centre to help manage their health condition on a continuous basis. Using thismethod, healthcare providers can assign various jobs to nurses by utilizing a general task definition mechanism, in which a task is defined as a combination ofmedical workflow, operational guidelines, and data gathered from a remotelymonitored virtual nursing system. Practitioners are in charge of DBN-EP andmake treatment decisions for patients. This allows a DBN-EP to act as a personalized full-time nurse for a client by carrying out practitioner support activitiesbased on information gathered about the client’s health. An electronic PersonalHealth Record (ePHR) system, such as a specialized web portal and mobile apps, could provide such patient information to elderly person family members and carecentres. We created a prototype system using a DBN-EP system that allows traditional client applications and healthcare provider systems to collaborate. Finally,we demonstrate how this system may benefit the elderly through a result anddebate.展开更多

Many epidemiological studies have shown inconsistent effects of statins on lung cancer, but some observational studies have showed that statins had protective effect on lung cancer among elderly people. So we preformed this meta-analysis to find whether statins were chemopreventive. Methods: We searched MEDLINE, EMBASE and Web of Science databases from inception to September, 2013. A total of 23 studies were selected, including 15 observational studies and 8 randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Both fixed and random-effects models were used to calculate pooled estimates in primary and sensitivity analyses. We used Q and 12 statistics to assess statistical heterogeneity, and evaluated publication bias by Begg's test and Egger's test. Results: No association between statins and lung cancer risk was identified either in the meta-analysis among RCTs [relative risk (RR): 0.95, 95% confidence interval (95% CI): 0.85-1.06] or observational studies (RR: 0.89, 95% CI: 0.77-1.04). We also selected 6 observational studies that all researched on elderly people. The result of meta-analysis showed that there was still no protective effect between statins and lung cancer among elderly people (RR: 1.03, 95% CI: 0.96-1.11). Conclusions: Our results did not support a protective effect of statins on the overall lung cancer risk and the lung cancer risk among elderly people. More well-designed RCTs are needed to enhance our understanding of the chemopreventive effect of statins on lung cancer.展开更多

Methods: quantitative, cross-sectional and observational study. Healthy and unhealthy eating are classified according to the frequency of food consumption. Smoking is expressed by the percentage of smokers. Harmful alcohol consumption by the percentage of individuals who consumed alcoholic beverages at least once in the last 30 days. Classification of the level of physical inactivity required to practice at least 150 minutes of physical activity. Results: the sample constituted 719 people, 535 adults and 184 elderly. The behavioral risk factor reported by most adults 499 (93.3%) and elderly 156 (84.8%) was unhealthy eating. Frequency 72% higher of smoking, four times higher of harmful alcohol consumption and 10% higher of unhealthy food among adults when compared to the elderly. The simultaneity between risk factors was 39% greater in adults than in the elderly. Discussion: risk factors evaluated in this study are key aspects of the development of NCDs. Adults have 2.43 times the chance of presenting two risk factors and 7.73 times the chance of presenting three in relation to the elderly. Conclusion: To achieve more effective and differentiated results, knowing and directing measures to control behavioral risk factors, whether isolated or concurrent, requires specific knowledge.展开更多

We analyzed the 2006 and 2010 data from the Chinese Urban and Rural Elderly Population Surveys, which are nationally representative surveys of elderly people aged 60 years and above. We found that there existed a typical power-law distribution for the rates of different numbers of chronic diseases among elderly Chinese people. A Kolmogorov-Smirnov test indicated that the result was robust, and the power exponents were approximately ?2.5. In addition, a paired t-test was conducted, which demonstrated that the rates of different numbers of chronic diseases did not have significant urban-rural differences, time differences or gender differences.展开更多

The aim of this study was to describe the characteristics of falls among the elderly in trauma units in Senegal. Materials and Methods: This was a descriptive, prospective study from April 20, 2022 to October 30, 2022 among people aged at least 60 and admitted to the surgical emergency department of Idrissa Pouye Hospital in Dakar following a fall. Socio-demographic, clinical, therapeutic and evolutionary characteristics were collected and analyzed using Sphinx Plus 2 and Excel 2019 for Windows software. Results: Out of 730 elderly people seen during this period, 100 met the criteria, representing a prevalence of 13.69%. The average consultation time was 3.25 +/? 4 days. The average age was 73 +/? 8.43 years, with women predominating (74%). Medical expenses were mainly covered by the family (73%). Most falls occurred during the day (68%), at home (82%), especially in the bedroom (30%), with stumbling (32%) as the main mechanism. The majority of patients (86%) spent less than 30 minutes on the floor. Predisposing factors were dominated by visual disorders (56%) and precipitating factors were mainly environmental (62%). Geriatric syndromes were dominated by frailty (22%). Complications were dominated by fractures (86%), and almost half (47%) had lost their autonomy for post-fall Activities Daily Living (ADL). Prescription medication was almost systematic (98%), dominated by analgesics (98%). Surgery was indicated in 58% of patients. The average waiting time for surgery was 25.36 +/? 19 days. A death rate of 1% was recorded in the emergency department. Conclusion: Falls in the elderly are a frequent occurrence in traumatological emergencies, with etiological factors that are often multiple and interrelated, leading to significant morbidity. Raising awareness among people at risk and setting up an orthogeriatric service would help prevent falls and optimize care in the short and long term.展开更多

Methods A total of 24 elderly people were recruited for this study and were administered oral doses of 3 mg 67Zn and 1.2 mg dysprosium on the fourth day. The primary macronutrients, energy, and phytic acid in the representative diet were examined based on the Chinese National Standard Methods. Fecal samples were collected during the experimenta and dysprosium content. period and analyzed for zinc content, 67Zn isotope ratio, Results The mean (± SD) zinc intake from the representative Chinese diet was 10.6 ± 1.5 mg/d. The phytic acid-to-zinc molar ratio in the diet was 6.4. The absorption rate of 67Zn was 27.9% ±9.2%. The RNI of zinc, which were calculated by the absorption rate in elderly men and women, were 10.4 and 9.2 mg/d, respectively. Conclusion This study got the dietary Zn absorption in a Chinese elderly population. We found that Zn absorption was higher in elderly men than in elderly women. The current RNI in elderly female is lower than our finding, which indicates that more attention is needed regarding elderly females' zinc status and health.展开更多

Since elderly patients with reduced physiological reserve and organ failure often have chronic diseases, geriatric syndrome, and other clinical problems, the perioperative nursing of elderly patients is more complicated. Therefore, we need to comprehensively consider clinical issues, such as patients’ preoperative status, surgical risks, and postoperative quality of life and life expectancy, and conduct comprehensive evaluations and holistic, individualized, and continuous nursing and therapy through the participation of interdisciplinary teams to achieve better curative effects. Here, the perioperative nursing of elderly patients is reviewed, including preoperative evaluation and nursing, intraoperative management, and postoperative nursing.展开更多

Finally,we demonstrate how this system may benefit the elderly through a result anddebate.

文摘Objective: As the most common cause of cancer mortality throughout the world, lung cancer has drawn people's attention on how to reduce the risk with chemopreventive ways. More well-designed RCTs are needed to enhance our understanding of the chemopreventive effect of statins on lung cancer.
文摘Electrochemical blood glucose sensors were developed with use of enzymes and an electron mediator.Electrodes were patterned on a resin plate, and a reagent layer containing an enzyme and an electron mediator was disposed on the electrodes in a dried state.A sample chamber to which the soluble reagent layer was exposed was assembled with the enzyme-loaded electrodes to hold a certain volume of blood in the sensor. The fabricated sensors enabled rapid and precise measurements of blood glucose of oneself. The sensor systems combined with the customized hand-held meter especially for the sensor were maintenance-free chiefly due to disposable sensors, and would be simple and easy enough to be operated by elderly people.

文摘Objective:To understand the influence of public square dancing on the subjective well-being of middle-aged and elderly people. Methods:According to the principle of Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses(PRISMA)guidelines,we search Chinese databases, such as CNKI,Wanfang Data, and VIP,and English databases, such as Proquest,Web of Science,Pubmed,Cochrane, and ScienceDirect, and collect relevant articles at home and abroad from 2006 to December 2019 for meta-analysis in January 2020.Result:A total of 10 articles were included. The meta-analysis results showed that the well-being of middle-aged and elderly people in the public square dancing intervention group was significantly higher than that of the other exercise group and control group(both P<0.01).The results of the subgroup analysis showed the following:Different durations of intervention significantly influence the intervention effect(P<0.01).No difference was found between the effect of the mixed-gender intervention and the individual female intervention(P>0.05).No significant difference was found between the groups with weekly intervention frequency(P>0.05).Conclusion:Public square dancing intervention is effective for middle-aged and elderly people’s subjective well-being.Neither mixed intervention nor the times of weekly intervention have an impact on the intervention effect. However, the length of duration of intervention influences the intervention effect.
文摘Aims: to analyze the presence and simultaneity of behavioral risk factors for chronic non-communicable disease (NCD) in adults and the elderly. Conclusion: To achieve more effective and differentiated results, knowing and directing measures to control behavioral risk factors, whether isolated or concurrent, requires specific knowledge.
文摘Objective:To determine the effects of the Self-Management Training Program on self-management behavior and blood pressure(BP)levels among elderly people with hypertension(HT).Methods:This study was based on a quasi-experimental design using sampling groups composed of elderly residents of Pathum Thani Province with HT.Simple random sampling was applied to two sampling groups,an experimental group and a control group. However, the experimental group had been on the Self-Management Training Program based on the Creer concept. The Program’s contents included small-group health-education sessions and the patients’manual,Self-Management Training Skills for Self-Management Behavior.Small group discussions were held for self-reflection,to stimulate follow-up for self-management behavior training during home visits. The Self-Management Training Program was compared with programs involving the more usual care.Data were collected using the Self-Management Behavior for Hypertension Control Questionnaire and BP assessment tests.Data were analyzed using a descriptive statistic,chi-square test, pair t-test,repeated-measures Analysis of Variance(ANOVA),and repeated-measures Analysis Covariance(ANCOVA).Results:It was found that at 13 weeks after entering the program, the experimental group demonstrated a significantly lower systolic and diastolic BP with a baseline statistical significance(P<0.005),and that at the 4th week and the 13th week, there was a decrease in BP in the experimental group. The experimental group also had above-baseline self-management behavior scores that were higher than in the control group(P<0.01).Conclusions:Results from this study show that the Self-Management Program was useful for BP control and promoted sustainable self-management behavior.
文摘Chronic disease is an important factor that affect the health of elderly people. In addition, a paired t-test was conducted, which demonstrated that the rates of different numbers of chronic diseases did not have significant urban-rural differences, time differences or gender differences.
文摘Aim: To clarify transformation of the participants’ consciousness for rebuilding the community and its factors from the discussion contents by actions for male elderly people in Town A in Fukushima prefecture. Design: This study was an action research. Method: The author verbalized discussion contents of the action conducted in 2018-2019 and analyzed them for each year by the text mining method. Results: The word appearance frequency was high in the order of “Person” and “Town A” in both years. One large word network was formed in 2018 and its topic was about what the participants feel in their life in Town A. 文摘Background: Falls in the elderly are a global public health problem with serious medical and socio-economic consequences, especially in low and middle-income countries. Raising awareness among people at risk and setting up an orthogeriatric service would help prevent falls and optimize care in the short and long term.
文摘Human fall detection plays a vital part in the design of sensor based alarming system, aid physical therapists not only to lessen after fall effect and also to save human life.Accurate and timely identification can offer quick medical ser-vices to the injured people and prevent from serious consequences.Several vision-based approaches have been developed by the placement of cameras in diverse everyday environments. At present times, deep learning(DL)models par-ticularly convolutional neural networks(CNNs)have gained much importance in the fall detection tasks. With this motivation, this paper presents a new vision based elderly fall event detection using deep learning(VEFED-DL)model.The proposed VEFED-DL model involves different stages of operations namely pre-processing,feature extraction, classification, and parameter optimization.Primar-ily,the digital video camera is used to capture the RGB color images and the video is extracted into a set of frames. For improving the image quality and elim-inate noise, the frames are processed in three levels namely resizing,augmenta-tion,and min–max based normalization.Besides,MobileNet model is applied as a feature extractor to derive the spatial features that exist in the preprocessed frames. In addition, the extracted spatial features are then fed into the gated recur-rent unit(GRU)to extract the temporal dependencies of the human movements. Finally,a group teaching optimization algorithm(GTOA)with stacked autoenco-der(SAE)is used as a binary classification model to determine the existence of fall or non-fall events. The GTOA is employed for the parameter optimization of the SAE model in such a way that the detection performance can be enhanced. In order to assess the fall detection performance of the presented VEFED-DL model,a set of simulations take place on the UR fall detection dataset and multi-ple cameras fall dataset. The experimental outcomes highlighted the superior per-formance of the presented method over the recent methods.

文摘Objective To determine the dietary zinc absorption in a Chinese elderly population and provide the basic data for the setting of zinc (Zn) recommended nutrient intakes (RNI) for Chinese elderly people. The current RNI in elderly female is lower than our finding, which indicates that more attention is needed regarding elderly females' zinc status and health.

文摘With the steady increase of older people in society, a progressively greater number of patients belonging to the geriatric group need surgical treatment. Here, the perioperative nursing of elderly patients is reviewed, including preoperative evaluation and nursing, intraoperative management, and postoperative nursing.
文摘The health status of the floating elderly population and the need of community management services are complex and important problems.Owing to the change of living environment and the insecure medical care, the mobile elderly people have more health and psy-chological problems compared to the rest of the elderly population. Therefore, the community should take a variety of measures to meet their needs and help them to better adapt to the new living environment, and maintain their physical and mental health. This paper aims to summarize recent studies on the physical and emotional health problems of mobile elderly people and related community management service needs.
