An experimental measurement of the lifetime of 3d^(9) ^(2)D_(3/2) metastable level in Mo^(15+)is reported in this work.The Mo^(15+)ions are produced and trapped in an electron beam ion trap with a magnetic field of 0.65 T.The decay photons emitted from 3d^(9) ^(2)D_(3/2) level are subsequently recorded via a cooled photomultiplier tube.Through meticulous scrutiny of potential systematic uncertainties affecting the measurement outcomes,we have determined the lifetime of Mo^(15+)3d^(9)2D_(3/2)metastable level to be 2.83(22)ms.The experimental result provides a clear distinguishment from existing calculations based on various theoretical approaches. 展开更多

Three dimensional(3D) displacements, which can be translated further into 3D strain, are key parameters tor design, manufacturing and quality control. Using different optical setups, phase-shift methods, and algorithms, several different 3D electronic speckle pattern interferometry(ESPl) systems for displacement and strain measurements have been achieved and commercialized. This paper provides a review of the recent developments in ESPI systems for 3D displacement and strain measurement. After an overview of the fundamentals of ESP! theory, temporal phase-shift, and spatial phase-shift techniques, 3D deformation measurements by the temporal phase-shift ESPI system, which is suited well for static measurement, and by the spatial phase-shift ESPI system, which is particularly useful for dynamic measurement, are discussed. For each method, the basic theory, a brief derivation and different optical layouts are presented. The state of art application, potential and limitation of the ESPI systems are shown and demonstrated. 展开更多

Aim: To evaluate and compare accuracy of the two electronic root canal length measurement devices;two frequencies impedance ratio and multi frequencies. Methods: Forty anterior teeth were sectioned on their cervical area. All samples were measured root canal length by radiographic. On the second phase, all the samples were measured by two frequencies impedance ratio and multi frequencies electronic devices. In the final phase, the teeth were split vertically and actual lengths were measured. All measurement by radiographic and electronic method was subtracted with actual length. Statistical analysis was performed using Chi-square and the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. Results: Accuracy of the two frequencies impedance ratio 50% and multi frequencies 47.5%. No statistical significance between two frequencies impedance ratio and multi frequencies. Conclusions: There is no difference between ratio two impedance frequencies and multi frequencies. 展开更多

Optical-electronic autocollimation method is commonly used to measure straightness of precision guides in engineering application. However, the traditional fixed interval optical-electronic autocollimation method is not suitable for measuring straightness of an air-bearing guide with a long air-bearing bush or a precision straight guide with a long slide-carriage, because the air-bearing bush and the slidecarriage are actually taken as a big bridgeboard bigger than the length of the bridgeboard with the reflector, which is about 1/4-1/2 of total length of the measured guide. If straightness is measured according to the traditional method, only a few points are sampled so that the guide straightness can not be evaluated fully or accurately. In order to solve the problem, an alterable measuring interval method is proposed for straightness measurement based on analyzing the mutual relations and effects among the tilting angle of the reflector, the length of the bridgeboard, the measuring interval and the straightness of the guide. A straightness calculation model is also developed using the method, and the errors stemming from the method proposed are introduced in brief. A precision air-bearing guide with a long air-bearing bush is measured and evaluated using the method proposed, and the actual measurement and evaluation results prove that the method is correct in theory and practical in operation. The method proposed gives an effective and flexible solution to the straightness measurement of the precision guide with long slide-carriage or air-bearing bush in application. It is an extension of the traditional optical-electronic autocollimation method for straightness measurement. 展开更多

With the development of silicon photomultiplier(SiPM)technology,front-end electronics for SiPM signal processing have been highly sought after in various fields.A compact 64-channel front-end electronics(FEE)system achieved by fieldprogrammable gate array-based charge-to-digital converter(FPGA-QDC)technology was built and developed.The FEE consists of an analog board and FPGA board.The analog board incorporates commercial amplifiers,resistors,and capacitors.The FPGA board is composed of a low-cost FPGA.The electronics performance of the FEE was evaluated in terms of noise,linearity,and uniformity.A positron emission tomography(PET)detector with three different readout configurations was designed to validate the readout capability of the FEE for SiPM-based detectors.The PET detector was made of a 15×15 lutetium–yttrium oxyorthosilicate(LYSO)crystal array directly coupled with a SiPM array detector.The experimental results show that FEE can process dual-polarity charge signals from the SiPM detectors.In addition,it shows a good energy resolution for 511-keV gamma photons under the dual-end readout for the LYSO crystal array irradiated by a Na-22 source.Overall,the FEE based on FPGA-QDC shows promise for application in SiPM-based radiation detectors. 展开更多

We report on a novel and convenient method of measuring secondary electron spectra for insulators in a secondary electron yield measurement system with a planar grid analyzer configuration and a metal mesh probe. In this measurement, the planar grid is negatively biased to force some emitted secondary electrons to return to the sample surface and to neutralize charges accumulated on the sample during the previous beam irradiation. The surface potential of the sample is then measured by use of a metal mesh probe. The grid bias for neutralization corresponding to the zero surface potential is determined based on the linear relationship between the surface potential and the grid bias. Once the surface potential equals zero, the secondary electron spectra of polymethyl methacrylate(PMMA) are studied experimentally by measuring the -curve and then fitting it to Everhart's formula. The measurement results show that the peak energy and the full width at half maximum of the spectra are 4.26 eV and 14.06 eV, respectively. 展开更多

A fully superconducting electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) ion source (SECRAL ID is currently being built in the Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Its key components are three superconducting solenoids (Nb-Ti/Cu) and six superconducting sextupoles (Nb-Ti/Cu). Different from the conventional supercon- ducting ECR magnetic structure, the SEC17AL Ⅱ includes three superconducting solenoid coils' that are located inside the superconducting sextupoles. The SECRAL Ⅱ can significantly reduce the interaction forces between the sextupole and the solenoids, and the magnets can also be more compact in size. For this multi-component SECRAL Ⅱ generating its self field of -8 T and being often exposed to the high self field, the mechanical analysis has become the main issue to keep their stress at 〈200 MPa on coils. The analytical and experimental results in mechanics are presented in the SECRAL Ⅱ structure. To improve the accuracy and efficiency of analysis, according to the composite rule of micromechanics, the equivalent uniform windings are used to simulate the epoxy-impregnated Nb-Ti/Cu coils. By analyzingperiodic perturbations to an equilibrium, one canmeasure the variations in electron energy flux andelectron temperature gradient over the perturbation cycle, obtaining the flux as a function ofgradient over the range of parameters generated by the perturbation. Although time-dependenttransport analysis is very sensitive to noise in the input data, averaging over many cycles of aperiodic perturbation can provide data of sufficient quality. The analyses presented here are basedon the ECE temperature data with high spatial and temporal resolution and full profile coverage onDIII-D for sawteeth and modulated ECH heating. 展开更多

Under coronal conditions, the steady state rate-equations are used to calculate the inter-stage line ratios between Li-like ls22p(2P3/2)→ls22s(2S1/2) and He-like ls2p(1P1)→1s2(1S0) transitions for Ti in the electronic temperature ranges from 0.1keV to 20 keV. The results show that the temperature sensitivities are higher at the electronic temperature less than 5000 eV and the temperature sensitivities will decrease with the increase of electronic temperature. 展开更多

It is challenging to measure the electron density of the unsteady plasma formed by charged particles generated from explosions in the air,because it is transient and on a microsecond time scale.In this study,the time-varying electron density of the plasma generated from a small cylindrical cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine(RDX)explosion in air was measured,based on the principle of microwave Rayleigh scattering.It was found that the evolution of the electron density is related to the diffusion of the detonation products.The application of the Rayleigh microwave scattering principle is an attempt to estimate the electron density in explosively generated plasma.Using the equivalent radius and length of the detonation products in the bright areas of images taken by a high-speed framing camera,the electron density was determined to be of the order of 10^(20)m^(−3).The delay time between the initiation time and the start of variation in the electron-density curve was 2.77–6.93μs.In the time-varying Rayleigh microwave scattering signal curve of the explosively generated plasma,the electron density had two fluctuation processes.The durations of the first stage and the second stage were 11.32μs and 19.20μs,respectively.Both fluctuation processes increased rapidly to a peak value and then rapidly attenuated with time.This revealed the movement characteristics of the charged particles during the explosion. 展开更多

The principle and structure of the five-channel FIR laser interferometer is described. The laser source used in the interferometer was a continuous wave glow discharge HCN laser with a 3.4 m cavity length and a 100 mW power output at 337μm wavelength. The temporal resolution was 0.1 ms and the detection sensitivity was 1/12 fringe. Preliminary experimental results measured by the interferometer on HT-7 tokamak are reported. 展开更多

The radicals in plasma originating from source gases dissociation are analyzed by relative irradiance measurement. The bonding configurations and binding state of a-C:F films are measured with Fourier-transformed infrared spectrometer (FTIR) and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results show that a-C:F films are mainly composed of CF radical at lower powers but of CF2 radical at higher powers. The deposition of films is related to the radicals generated in plasma and the main bonding configurations are dependent on the ratio of CF to CF2 radicals in films. 展开更多

The electrical tunneling sensors have excellent potential in the next generation of single-molecule measurement and sequencing technologies due to their high sensitivity and spatial resolution capabilities.Electrical tunneling signals that have been measured at a high sampling rate may provide detailed molecular information.Despite the extraordinarily large amount of data that has been gathered,it is still difficult to correlate signal transformations with molecular processes,which creates great obstacles for signal analysis.Machine learning is an effective tool for data analysis that is currently gaining more significance.It has demonstrated promising results when used to analyze data from single-molecule electrical measurements.In order to extract meaningful information from raw measurement data,we have combined intelligent machine learning with tunneling electrical signals.For the purpose of analyzing tunneling electrical signals,we investigated the clustering approach,which is a classic algorithm in machine learning.A clustering model was built that combines the advantages of hierarchical clustering and Gaussian mixture model clustering.Additionally,customized statistical algorithms were designed.It has been proven to efficiently gather molecular information and enhance the effectiveness of data analysis. 展开更多

The readout electronics for a prototype soft X-ray spectrometer based on silicon drift detector(SDD),for precisely measuring the energy and arrival time of X-ray photons is presented in this paper.The system mainly consists of two parts,i.e.,an analog electronics section(including a pre-amplifier,a signal shaper and filter,a constant fraction timing circuit,and a peak hold circuit)and a digital electronics section(including an ADC and a TDC).Test results with X-ray sources show that an energy dynamic range of 1-10 keV with an integral nonlinearity of less than 0.1%can be achieved,and the energy resolution is better than 160 eV @ 5.9 keV FWHM.Using a waveform generator,test results also indicate that time resolution of the electronics system is about 3.7 ns,which is much less than the transit time spread of SDD(<100 ns)and satisfies the requirements of future applications. 展开更多

We will demonstrate the unique advantages of CAC, i.e., excellent pressure homogeneity and large hydrostatic pressure capacity, by summarizing our recent research progresses using CAC. The ring imaging Cherenkov(RICH) detector for particle identification(PID) is being evaluated for the future super tau-charm facility(STCF) complex. In this work, the prototype readout electronics for the RICH PID detector is designed. The prototype RICH PID detector is based on a thick gas electron multiplier combined with a micromegas detector for Cherenkov light detection. Considering that there will be a large number(~ 690,000) of detector channels in future RICH detector, the readout electronics faces many challenges to precisely measuring time and charge information, such as reducing the noise,increasing density, and improving precision. The requirements of the readout electronics are explored, the downselection of the ASICs is made and thus a prototype readout electronics is designed and implemented. Tests are also conducted to evaluate the performance of the prototype readout electronics, and the results indicate that the time resolution is better than ~ 1 ns(RMS) when the input charge is greater than ~ 12 fC based on the APV25chip, while the time resolution is better than ~ 1 ns(RMS) at an input charge of over ~ 48 fC based on the AGET and STCF ASIC chips, and the equivalent noise charge is better than ~ 0.5 fC(RMS) @ 20 pF based on the three ASICs. The test results indicate that the prototype readout electronics design meets the requirement of the future RICH PID detector and thus provides a reference for future engineering. 展开更多

Plasma electron density is one of the most fundamental parameters in the study of tokamak plasma physics.The method of plasma electron density measuring and processing on the Joint Texas Experimental Tokamak(J-TEXT) was presented in this paper.The principle of the plasma electron density measuring by hydrogen cyanide(HCN) laser interferometer was introduced.Room temperature triglycine sulface(TGS) detector was used to obtain the beat signal of HCN,and phase difference was measured by high-speed acquisition card DAQ2010.Based on the signal characteristics,a specific HCN processing algorithm was designed to eliminate the baseline offset accurately and process overturns of HCN signals effectively.As a result,plasma electron density with high accuracy and low noise has been obtained during the J-TEXT tokamak experiment. 展开更多
