In the strategy, a posteriori errors are estimated by comparing FEM solutions to EEP super-convergent solutions with optimal order of super-convergence, meshes are refined by using the error-averaging method. Quasi-FEM solutions are used to replace the true FEM solutions in the adaptive process. This strategy has been found to be simple, clear, efficient and reliable. For most problems, only one adaptive step is needed to produce the required FEM solutions which pointwise satisfy the user specified error tolerances in the max-norm. Taking the elliptical ordinary differential equation of the second order as the model problem, this paper describes the fundamental idea, implementation strategy and computational algorithm and representative numerical examples are given to show the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed approach.展开更多

Fractional-order electric elements and circuits are becoming more and more attractive. In this paper, the complexorder electric elements concept is proposed for the first time, and the complex-order elements are modeled and analyzed. Some interesting phenomena are found that the real part of the order affects the phase of output signal, and the imaginary part affects the amplitude for both the complex-order capacitor and complex-order memristor. More interesting is that the complex-order capacitor can do well at the time of fitting electrochemistry impedance spectra. The complex-order memristor is also analyzed. The area inside the hysteresis loops increases with the increasing of the imaginary part of the order and decreases with the increasing of the real part. Some complex case of complex-order memristors hysteresis loops are analyzed at last, whose loop has touching points beyond the origin of the coordinate system.展开更多

This experiment is implemented through a two-dimensional spectral stochastic finite element formulation of an elliptic partial differential equation having stochastic coefficients. Deriving this spectral stochastic finite element formulation couples a two-dimensional deterministic finite element formulation of an elliptic partial differential equation with generalized polynomial chaos expansions of stochastic coefficients. Further inspection of the performance of resulting spectral stochastic finite element formulation with adopting linear and quadratic (9-node or 8-node) quadrilateral elements finds that more accurate standard deviations of unknowns are surprisingly predicted using quadratic quadrilateral elements, especially under high autocorrelation function values of stochastic coefficients. In addition, creating spectral stochastic finite element results using quadratic quadrilateral elements is not unacceptably time-consuming. Therefore, this study concludes that adopting high-order elements can be a lower-cost method to improve the performance of spectral stochastic finite element method.展开更多

Here we discuss the higher order of groups in different types of order which will give us practical knowledge to see the applications of the addition and multiplication composition. If G is a finite group, n is a positive integer and a ⋴G, then the order of the products na. When G is a finite group, every element must have finite order. However, the converse is false: there are infinite groups where each element has finite order. For example, in the group of all roots of unity in C× each element has finite order. Recently, the fundamentals of the conventional circuit theory were extended to include the new generalized elements and fractional-order elements. As is known to all, circuit theory is a limiting special case of electromagnetic field theory and the characterization of classical circuit elements can be given an elegant electromagnetic interpretation. In this paper, considering fractional-order time derivatives, an electromagnetic field interpretation of fractional-order elements: fractional-order inductor, fractional-order capacitor and fractional-order mutual inductor is presented, in terms of a quasi-static expansion of the fractional Maxwell’s equations. It shows that fractional-order elements can also be interpreted as a fractional electromagnetic system. As the element order equals to 1, the interpretation of fractional-order elements matches that of the classical circuit elements: L, C, and mutual inductor, respectively.展开更多

Basically, the finite element method transforms the underlying differential equation into a system of algebraic equations by application of the method of weighted residuals in conjunction with a finite element ansatz. However, this procedure is restricted to even-ordered differential equations and leads to symmetric system matrices as a key property of the finite element method. This paper aims in a generalization of the finite element method towards the solution of first-order differential equations. This is achieved by an approach which replaces the first-order derivative by fractional powers of operators making use of the square root of a Sturm-Liouville operator. The resulting procedure incorporates a finite element formulation and leads to a symmetric but dense system matrix. Finally, the scheme is applied to the barometric equation where the results are compared with the analytical solution and other numerical approaches. It turns out that the resulting numerical scheme shows excellent convergence properties.展开更多
