Resurgence of measles virus infection in an eliminated country, Sri Lanka

Objective:To describe the situation of measles in Sri Lanka from May to November,2023 and to define the role of virology laboratory towards case confirmation and epidemiological and genetic characterization of the outbreak.Methods:This retrospective study analyzed all samples tested for measles from 1st of May to 30th of November,2023 at National Measles Rubella Laboratory,Sri Lanka.According to the World Health Organization(WHO)algorithm,serum and oropharyngeal/nasopharyngeal swabs were tested with WHO recommended kits for anti-measles IgM and measles virus specific RNA,respectively.Selected RNA positive samples were sequenced at reference laboratory,India.Analysis of sequencing data and construction of phylogenetic tree were carried out at National Measles Rubella Laboratory.Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics.Results:Of the total 1132 serum samples and 497 oropharyngeal/nasopharyngeal swabs from 1326 patients,657(49.5%)patients were confirmed as measles by anti-measles IgM,measles virus specific RNA or both.Males(55.6%,n=365)and the age group from>20 to≤30 years(33.0%,n=217)predominated positive patients.All provinces reported measles positive cases.All samples sequenced(100%,n=42)were genotype D8 with 95.2%(n=40)bearing Victoria.Australia origin.Conclusions:We described resurgence of measles in an eliminated country,confirming the genotype to be D8,one of the two genotypes currently circulating globally.Further,the study strongly convinced the importance of a strengthened virological surveillance system in an eliminated country,despite its eliminated status.

Bone palsy eliminates granules to regulate Wnt/PI3K-AKT signaling pathway and intervene in hormonal osteonecrosis of the femoral head in rabbits

Objective:To investigate the therapeutic effect of osteopathic osteopathy on hormonal osteonecrosis in rabbits by regulating the Wnt/PI3K-AKT signaling pathway.Methods:Thirty clean-grade New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided into control group,model group and experimental group,and all except for the control group,allogeneic serum combined with glucocorticoids were used to establish animal models of simulated hormonal osteonecrosis of the femoral head.After successful modeling,the experimental group was given the model group and the control group the same amount of normal saline,and the experimental group was given bone palsy granule concentrate according to the equivalent dose of humans and rabbits,once a day for 8 weeks,and after intraperitoneal anesthesia,blood was collected from the extracorporeal heart and the serum ALP and TGF-β1 levels were detected by immunoenzyme-linked adsorption.The experimental animals were sacrificed,,and the bilateral femoral heads of rabbits were removed for hematoxylin-eosin staining,and the apoptosis of cells in the femoral head area was observed by TUNEL staining.RT-qPCR analyzed the expression of Bax and Bcl-2 genes,and Western blot detected the expression levels of pathway proteins Wnt,β-catenin,GSK-3β,AKT and p-AKT.Results:Compared with the control group,the expression levels of ALP and TGF-β1 in rabbit bone tissue in the model group decreased significantly(P<0.05),the bone trabeculae were sparse and thinned,the number of hollow bone fosses and the number of apoptosis-positive cells increased significantly(P<0.05),the expression of pro-apoptotic gene Bax was increased,and the expression of anti-apoptotic gene Bcl-2 was inhibited(P<0.05).After the intervention and treatment of bone palsy granules,the hollow bone depression and apoptosis of rabbit bone tissue in the experimental group were effectively improved(P<0.05).In addition,compared with the model group,the osteopathic elimination particles could upregulate the expression of ALP and TGF-β1(P<0.05),promote the expression of pathway proteins Wnt andβ-catenin,increase the phosphorylation level of AKT,and downregulate the expression of GSK-3β(P<0.05).Conclusion:Under glucocorticoids,osteoblast development dysfunction and apoptosis increase.Bone palsy granules can regulate the two signaling pathways of Wnt/PI3K-AKT,promote osteoblast development and inhibit apoptosis,effectively maintain bone metabolic balance,prolong the collapse time of the femoral head,and further treat osteonecrosis of the femoral head.

An Analysis of the Expectations Gap:Can it be eliminated?

The "expectations gap" signifies the differences between what the public expects from an audit and what the auditing profession prefers the audit objectives to be.Although the gap exists,it seems that the professions trust that it could be eliminated.In this paper,further evidence was provided to deny the above point by exploring the inevitability nature and the structure of the audit expectation gap.In addition,the author concludes that expectations gap cannot be eliminated;instead,the only thing can be done is to narrow down the gap.

Study and Design of a DC/AC Energy Converter for PV System Connected to the Grid Using Harmonic Selected Eliminated (HSE) Approach

Nowadays, distributing network-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems are expanded by merging a PV system and a Direct Current (DC)/Alternating Current (AC) energy converter. DC/AC conversion of PV energy is in great demand for AC applications. The supply of electrical machines and transfer energy to the distribution network is a typical case. In this work, we study and design a DC/AC energy converter using harmonic selective eliminated (HSE) method. To this end, we have combined two power stages connected in derivation. Each power stage is constituted of transistors and transformers. The connection by switching of the two rectangular waves, delivered by each of the stages, makes it possible to create a quasi-sinusoidal output voltage of the inverter. Mathematical equations based on the current-voltage characteristics of the inverter have been developed. The simulation model was validated using experimental data from a 25.2 kWp grid-coupled (PV) system, connected to Gridfit type inverters. The data were exported and implemented in programming software. A good agreement was observed and this shows all the robustness and the technical performances of the energy converter device. It emerges from this analysis that the inverter output voltage and the phase angle thus simulated are very important to control in order to orientate the transfer of the power flow from the continuous cell to cell to the alternating part. Simulated and field-testing results also show that increases in the value of the modulation factor (m) for low power output are highly significant. This study is an important tool for DC/AC inverter designers during initial planning stages. A short presentation of the design model of the inverter has been proposed in this article.

New approach to eliminate structural redundancy in case resource pools using α mutual information

Structural redundancy elimination in case resource pools （CRP） is critical for avoiding performance bottlenecks and maintaining robust decision capabilities in cloud computing services. For these purposes, this paper proposes a novel approach to ensure redundancy elimination of a reasoning system in CRP. By using α entropy and mutual information, functional measures to eliminate redundancy of a system are developed with respect to a set of outputs. These measures help to distinguish both the optimal feature and the relations among the nodes in reasoning networks from the redundant ones with the elimination criterion. Based on the optimal feature and its harmonic weight, a model for knowledge reasoning in CRP （CRPKR） is built to complete the task of query matching, and the missing values are estimated with Bayesian networks. Moreover, the robustness of decisions is verified through parameter analyses. This approach is validated by the simulation with benchmark data sets using cloud SQL. Compared with several state-of-the-art techniques, the results show that the proposed approach has a good performance and boosts the robustness of decisions.

Applying a global pulse disturbance to eliminate spiral waves in models of cardiac muscle

Removal of spiral waves in cardiac muscle is necessary because of their threat to life.Common methods for this removal are to apply a local disturbance to the media,such as a periodic forcing.However,most of these methods accelerate the beating of the cardiac muscle,resulting in the aggravation of the ventricular tachycardia,which directly threatens life.In the present study,in order to clear off spiral waves,a global pulse-disturbance is applied to the media based on three models of cardiac muscle.It is found that the spiral waves are eliminated and the frequency of the cardiac muscle is decreased in a short time,and finally,the state of the medium reaches the normal oscillation,which supports a target waves.Our method sheds light on the removal of spiral waves in cardiac muscle and can prevent the ventricular tachycardia as well as the ventricular fibrillation.

Establishing a pre-metastatic niche(PMN)in secondary organs is a prerequisite for cancer metastases.Despite advances in cancer therapy,the efficient inhibition of PMN formation remains a clinical challenge.Recent advances in understanding the specific characteristics of PMN and advances in nanotechnology have provided hope for manipulating their microenvironments.A series of nanostrategies have been designed to eliminate the PMN,including the removal of pro-metastatic exosomes from the bloodstream for excretion via the intestines,the targeting and scavenging of myeloid-derived suppressor cells,fibroblasts,and critical extracellular matrix components,and the elimination of circulating tumor cells prior to colonization in distant organs.This review summarizes the underlying mechanisms of PMN formation,highlights the anti-PMN efficacy of currently reported nanostrategies,and underlines the unresolved questions.

A shadow- eliminated vegetation index (SEVI) for removal of self and cast shadow effects on vegetation in rugged terrains

The effect of terrain shadow, including the self and cast shadows, is one ofthe main obstacles for accurate retrieval of vegetation parameters byremote sensing in rugged terrains. A shadow- eliminated vegetation index(SEVI) was developed, which was computed from only red and nearinfrared top-of-atmosphere reflectance without other heterogeneous dataand topographic correction. After introduction of the conceptual modeland feature analysis of conventional wavebands, the SEVI was constructedby ratio vegetation index (RVI), shadow vegetation index (SVI) andadjustment factor (f (Δ)). Then three methods were used to validate theSEVI accuracy in elimination of terrain shadow effects, including relativeerror analysis, correlation analysis between the cosine of solar incidenceangle (cosi) and vegetation indices, and comparison analysis between SEVIand conventional vegetation indices with topographic correction. Thevalidation results based on 532 samples showed that the SEVI relativeerrors for self and cast shadows were 4.32% and 1.51% respectively. Thecoefficient of determination between cosi and SEVI was only 0.032 and thecoefficient of variation (std/mean) for SEVI was 12.59%. The results indicatethat the proposed SEVI effectively eliminated the effect of terrain shadowsand achieved similar or better results than conventional vegetation indiceswith topographic correction.

Highly Thermoconductive,Strong Graphene‑Based Composite Films by Eliminating Nanosheets Wrinkles

Graphene-based thermally conductive composites have been proposed as effective thermal management materials for cooling high-power electronic devices.However,when flexible graphene nanosheets are assembled into macroscopic thermally conductive composites,capillary forces induce shrinkage of graphene nanosheets to form wrinkles during solution-based spontaneous drying,which greatly reduces the thermal conductivity of the composites.Herein,graphene nanosheets/aramid nanofiber(GNS/ANF)composite films with high thermal conductivity were prepared by in-plane stretching of GNS/ANF composite hydrogel networks with hydrogen bonds andπ-πinteractions.The in-plane mechanical stretching eliminates graphene nanosheets wrinkles by suppressing inward shrinkage due to capillary forces during drying and achieves a high in-plane orientation of graphene nanosheets,thereby creating a fast in-plane heat transfer channel.The composite films(GNS/ANF-60 wt%)with eliminated graphene nanosheets wrinkles showed a significant increase in thermal conductivity(146 W m^(−1)K^(−1))and tensile strength(207 MPa).The combination of these excellent properties enables the GNS/ANF composite films to be effectively used for cooling flexible LED chips and smartphones,showing promising applications in the thermal management of high-power electronic devices.

Hemoperfusion and continuous veno-venous hemodiafiltration for eliminating chlorfenapyr in poisoning patients

Chlorfenapyr is a liposoluble insecticide belonging to the pyrrole family.Chlorfenapyr is activated when the N-ethoxymethyl side chain breaks,forming a toxic metabolite,which uncouples oxidative phosphorylation in the mitochondria,inhibits the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP),and leads to the death of cells and targe organisms.[1] Symptoms of chlorfenapyr poisoning in patients are mild and atypical in the early stage,especially in patients receiving low dose exposure;however,such cases are rare and may be ignored by physicians,often leading to delayed treatment.[2,3].
