The results show that the sensitivity of this sample reaches its maximum value, about 0.0047 K^-1, when the temperature is 383 K, indicating that this kind of sample can be used as high temperature and high sensitivity optical temperature sensor. 展开更多

The green and red up-conversion emissions centred at about 534, 549 and 663 nm of wavelength, corresponding respectively to the ^2H11/2 → ^4I15/2, ^4S3/2 → ^4I15/2 and ^4F9/2 → ^4I15/2 transitions of Er^3+ ions, have been observed for the Er^3+-doped silicate glass excited by a 978 nm semiconductor laser beam. Excitation power dependent behaviour of the up-conversion emission intensity indicates that a two-photon absorption up-conversion process is responsible for the green and red up-conversion emissions. The temperature dependence of the green up-conversion emissions is also studied in a temperature range of 296-673 K, which shows that Er^3+-doped silicate glass can be used as a sensor in high-temperature measurement. 展开更多

In double-pulse laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy(DP-LIBS), the collinear femtosecond double-pulse laser configuration is experimentally investigated with different initial sample temperatures using a Ti:sapphire laser. The glass sample is ablated to produce the plasma spectroscopy. During the experiment, the detected spectral lines include two Na(I) lines(589.0 nm and 589.6 nm) and one Ca(I) line at the wavelength of 585.7 nm. The emission lines are measured at room temperature(22 ℃) and three higher initial sample temperatures(T_s?=?100 ℃, 200 ℃, and 250 ℃). The inter-pulse delay time ranges from-250 ps to 250 ps.The inter-pulse delay time and the sample temperature strongly influence the spectral intensity,and the spectral intensity can be significantly enhanced by increasing the sample temperature and selecting the optimized inter-pulse time. For the same inter-pulse time of 0 ps(single-pulse LIBS), the enhancement ratio is approximately 2.5 at T_s?=?200 ℃ compared with that obtained at T_s?=?22 ℃. For the same inter-pulse time of 150 ps, the enhancement ratio can be up to 4 at T_s?=?200 ℃ compared with that obtained at T_s?=?22 ℃. The combined enhancement effects of the different initial sample temperatures and the double-pulse configuration in femtosecond LIBS are much stronger than that of the different initial sample temperatures or the double-pulse configuration only. 展开更多

The charging stability of different silica glasses studied by measuring the secondary electron emission yield

This paper reports that the charging properties of lead silica, Suprasil silica and Infrasil silica are investigated by measuring the secondary electron emission (SEE) yield. At a primary electron beam energy of 25 keV, the intrinsic SEE yields measured at very low injection dose are 0.54, 0.29 and 0.35, respectively for lead silica, Suprasil and Infrasil silica glass. During the first e-beam irradiation at a high injection current density, the SEE yields of lead silica and Suprasil increase continuously and slowly from their initial values to a steady state. At the steady state, the SEE yields of lead silica and Suprasil are 0.94 and 0.93, respectively. In Infrasil, several charging and discharging processes are observed during the experiment. This shows that Infrasil does not reach its steady state. Two hours later, all samples are irradiated again in the same place as the first irradiation at a low current density and low dose. The SEE yields of lead silica, Suprasil and Infrasil are 0.69, 0.76 and 0.55, respectively. Twenty hours later, the values are 0.62, 0.64 and 0.33, respectively, for lead silica, Suprasil and Infrasil. These results show that Infrasil has poor charging stability. Comparatively, the charging stability of lead silica is better, and Suprasil has the best characteristics. 展开更多

The influence of Er2O3, Yb2O3 and OH-conte... The Yb3+/Er3+ doped TeO2-WO3-ZnO glasses were prepared. The absorption spectra, emission spectra and fluorescence lifetime of Er3+ at 1.5 um, excited by 970 nm were measured. The influence of Er2O3, Yb2O3 and OH-contents on emission properties of Er3+ at 1.5μm was investigated. The optimum doping concentrations for Er3+ and Yb3+ is around 3.34×1020 ions/cm3 and 6.63×1020 ions/cm3, respectively. The peak emission cross section is 0.83~0.87 pm2. With the increasing concentration of Yb3+, the FWHM of Er3+ emission at 1.5μm in the glass increases from 77 nm to 83 nm. The results show that Yb3+/Er3+ doped TeO2-WO3-ZnO glasses are promising candidate for Er3+-doped broadband optical amplifier. 展开更多

This paper investigates the thermal performance of a new adaptive window which is seasonally reversible.The new window is similar in construction to the regular double-hung low-e windows,but can reverse its properties.In this window,the low-e coating faces the inside during the heating season,which reflects the infrared radiation to the inside.During the cooling season,the low-e coating faces the outside to reflect the outside heat.This window was tested in two test cells to evaluate its thermal performance.WINDOW5.2a software was used to predict the window thermal properties and BEANS building simulation software was used to predict the energy savings of the new window design.The simulation results showed an increase in the heat gain through the new window of up to 38%over the conventional double-glazing low-e window during the heating period for heavy thermal mass buildings,and 14%for light weight thermal mass buildings.At the same time,the window maintained its low heat gain properties in the cooling season.When used in moderate climates,the new adaptive window will significantly reduce energy consumption in buildings during both the heating and the cooling seasons. 展开更多

Er^(3+)-doped Gd_2O_3 -SiO_2 -B_2O_3 -Na_2O glasses were prepared, and formation range of glass of Gd_2O_3 -SiO_2 -B_2O_3 system was experimentally obtained. It is found that the glass phase can be formed only when the content of SiO_2 is 0~50%(molar fraction), Gd_2O_3 is 0~30%(molar fraction) and B_2O_3 is above 20%(molar fraction) in this glass system. The glass can also be obtained but becomes translucent at the contents of 60%(molar fraction) SiO_2 and 30% Gd_2O_3 , or at the contents of 60%(molar fraction) SiO_2 and 30%(molar fraction) B_2O_3. There is no glass phase formed in other glass components. Glass forming ability for Gd_2O_3 content of 10%, was characterized by the value of β, the parameter of crystallization tendency, which is 0.32~1.76, obtained from the differential thermal analysis. The absorption and emission cross section, the J-O parameters Ωt_((2,4,6)) and radiative transition probabilities were calculated by using the theory of McCumber and Judd-Ofelt. The emission properties at 1.5 μm of the samples are discussed with the product of full width at half maximum and stimulated emission cross section. It can be seen that the value of the FWHM×σ_e^(peak) product in the prepared glass is more than those of germanate, silicate and phosphate glasses. Furthermore, the maximum value of the product among these glasses reported in this work is close to that of oxyfluoride silicate glass. Therefore, the Er^(3+)-doped gadolinium borosilicate glass in this paper is a candidate for broadband erbium doped fiber amplifiers. 展开更多
