Although non-smooth surface has been studied widely, the studies of non-smooth surface under the natural seawater lubrication are still very fewer, especially experimental research. The influences of smooth and non-smooth surface on the frictional properties of the glass fiber-epoxy resin composite(GF/EPR) coupled with stainless steel 316 L are investigated under natural seawater lubrication in this paper. The tested non-smooth surfaces include the surfaces with semi-spherical pits, the conical pits, the cone-cylinder combined pits, the cylindrical pits and through holes. The friction and wear tests are performed using a ring-on-disc test rig under 60 N load and 1000 r/min rotational speed. The tests results show that GF/EPR with bionic non-smooth surface has quite lower friction coefficient and better wear resistance than GF/EPR with smooth surface without pits. The average friction coefficient of GF/EPR with semi-spherical pits is 0.088, which shows the largest reduction is approximately 63.18% of GF/EPR with smooth surface. In addition, the wear debris on the worn surfaces of GF/EPR are observed by a confocal scanning laser microscope. It is shown that the primary wear mechanism is the abrasive wear. The interlayer spacing of the organophilic montmorillonite(organo-MMT) corresponding to the d(001) plane peak was 2.21 nm The influences of the content of organo-MMT and mixing conditions including mixing temperature and mixing time on the intercalation and exfoliation structures of MMT/epoxy resin composites were investigated by wide X-ray diffraction(WXRD). The X-ray patterns reveal that organo-MMT was intercalated by the epoxy resin during mixing process. Only under certain mixing conditions, could the exfoliation nanocomposites be formed. The mechanical and thermal properties of the composites were measured. The prepared samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric and differential scanning calorimetry, scanning electron microscope and limiting oxygen index(LOI) experiments. Effects of AACHH content on LOI of epoxy resins/AACHH composite and flame retardant mechanism were investigated and discussed. Results show that AACHH exhibites excellent flame-retardant properties in epoxy resin(EP). When the content of AACHH was 47.4%, the LOI of EP reached 32.2%. Moreover, the initial and terminal decomposition temperature of EP increased by 48 ℃ and 40 ℃, respectively. The flame retarded mechanism of AACHH is due to the synergic flame retardant effects of diluting, cooling, decomposition resisting and obstructing.展开更多

In this paper, the effects of microwave irradiation for resin-curing of carbon fiber/epoxy resin composite that was composed of discontinuous carbon fibers of 130 μm or 3 mm were investigated. The mechanical properties of carbon fiber/epoxy resin composite cured by microwave irradiation for 20 min at 120°C were similar to ones of the sample prepared by conventional oven for 180 min at 120°C. Microwavecured carbon fiber/epoxy resin composite had higher glass transition temperature than the one prepared by conventional oven. The relation between curing time and flexural modulus indicated that the curing velocity of microwave-irradiated carbon fiber/epoxy resin composite was 9 times faster than the one prepared by conventional oven. Furthermore, activation energies for resincuring reaction on microwave and conventional-cured carbon fiber/epoxy resin composite were estimated. The resin-curing reaction in carbon fiber/epoxy resin composite was promoted by microwave irradiation.展开更多

For this purpose, it was necessary to evaluate the stress state in each component of the bolted join. The multi-material assembly was based on the principle of double lap bolted joint. It was composed of a symmetrical balanced woven glass-epoxy composite material plate fastened to two stainless sheets using a stainless pre-stressed bolt. In order to optimize the design and the geometry of the assembly, ten configurations were proposed and studied: a classical simple bolted joint, two joints with an insert (a BigHeadR insert and a stair one) embedded in the composite, two “waved” solutions, three symmetrical configurations composed of a succession of metallic and composites layers, without a sleeve, with one and with two sleeves, and two non-symmetrical constituted of metallic and composites layers associated with a stair-insert (one with a sleeve and one without). A tridimensional Finite Element Method (FEM) was used to model each configuration mentioned above. The FE models taked into account the different materials, the effects of contact between the different sheets of the assembly and the pre-stress in the bolt. The stress state was analyzed in the composite part. The concept of stress concentration factor was used in order to evaluate the stress increase in the highly stressed regions and to compare the ten configurations studied. For this purpose, three stress concentration factors were defined: one for a monotonic loading in tension, another for a monotonic loading in compression, and the third for a tension-compression cyclic loading. The results of the FEM computations showed that the use of alternative metallic and composite layers associated with two sleeves gived low values of stress concentration factors, smaller than 1.4. In this case, there was no contact between the bolt and the composite part and the most stressed region was not the vicinity of the hole but the end of the longest layers of the metallic inserts.展开更多

Here, a novel P/N/Si-containing ammonium polyphosphate derivative(APTES-APP) is synthesized from ammonium polyphosphate(APP) and silane coupling agent(3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane(APTES)via cation exchange, which is quite different in the chemical structure from APTES-modified APP for retaining silicon hydroxyls. APTES-APP is highly efficient for the epoxy resin. 8%(mass) APTES-APP imparts excellent flame retardancy to the epoxy resin, with a V-0 rating at the UL-94 test(1.6 mm)and an LOI value of 26%(vol). The peak heat release rate and total smoke production of the flameretardant epoxy resin are decreased by 68.1% and 31.3%, respectively. The synergy of P/N/Si contributes to the well-expanded char residue with a strong and dense surface layer, which is a very good barrier against heat and mass transfer. Besides, there is no significant deterioration in the mechanical properties of flame-retardant epoxy resin thanks to silicon hydroxyls forming hydrogen bonds with epoxy molecules. Meanwhile, other molecules can be grafted onto APTES-APP via these silicon hydroxyls, if needed.Briefly, this work has developed a new strategy for amino silane as flame retardants. In conjunction with a low-cost and simple preparation method, APTES-APP has a promising prospect in the high-performance flame-retardant epoxy.展开更多

The research results provide some design parameters for non-smooth surface, and the experiment results can serve as a beneficial supplement to non-smooth surface study.
文摘The effects of a magnesium-based layered composite on the flammability of a phenolic epoxy resin(EP)are studied. In order to produce the required composite material, first, magnesium hydroxide, aluminum salt and deionized water are mixed into a reactor according to a certain proportion to induce a hydrothermal reaction;then, the feed liquid is filtered out using a solid-liquid separation procedure;finally, the material is dried and crushed. In order to evaluate its effects on the flammability of the EP,first,m-phenylenediamine is added to EP and vacuum defoamation is performed;then,EP is poured into a polytetrafluoroethylene mold, cooled to room temperature and demoulded;finally, the magnesium-based layered composite is added to EP,and its flame retardance is characterized by thermogravimetric analysis, limiting oxygen index and cone calorimetry. The X-ray diffraction patterns show that the baseline of magnesium-based layered composite is stable and the front shape is sharp and symmetrical when the molar ratio of magnesium to aluminium is 3.2:1;with the addition of magnesium-based layered composite, the initial pyrolysis temperature of EP of 10%,15%and 30%magnesium-based layered composite decreases to 318.2°C,317.9°C and 357.1°C,respectively.After the reaction, the amount of residual carbon increases to 0.1%,3.45%and 8.3%,and the limiting oxygen index increases by 28.3%,29.1%and 29.6%,respectively.The maximum heat release rate of cone calorimeter decreases gradually. The optimum molar ratio of Mg:Al for green synthesis is 3.2:1,and the NO_(3)-intercalated magnesium-based layered composite has the best flame retardance properties.

文摘Montmorillonite(MMT) was directly modified with hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide. The results indicate that the composites have better mechanical properties and higher Tg than those of the pristine epoxy resin.

文摘Flame retardant epoxy resins were prepared by a simple mixed method using ammonium aluminum carbonate hydroxy hydrate (AACHH) as a halogen-free flame retardant. The flame retarded mechanism of AACHH is due to the synergic flame retardant effects of diluting, cooling, decomposition resisting and obstructing.
文摘A novel, versatile flame retardant substructure based on phosphorylated salicylic acid(SCP)is described and used in the synthesis of new flame retardants for HexFlowRTM6,a high-performance epoxy resin used in resin transfer molding processes as composite matrix. The starting material salicylic acid can be obtained from natural sources.SCP as reactive phosphorus chloride is converted with a novolak,a novolak containing 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phospha-phenanthrene-10-oxide(DOPO)substituents or DOPO-hydroquinone to flame retardants with sufficient thermal stability and high char yield.Additionally, these flame retardants are soluble in the resin as well as react into the epoxy network. The determined thermal stability and glass transition temperatures of flame retarded neat resin samples as well as the interlaminar shear strength of corresponding carbon fiber reinforced composite materials showed the applicability of these flame retardants.Neat resin samples and composites were tested for their flammability by UL94 and/or flame-retardant performance by cone calorimetry. All tested flame retardants decrease the peak of heat release rate by up to 54%for neat resin samples.A combination of DOPO and SCP in one flame retardant shows synergistic effects in char formation and the mode of action adapts to neat resin or fiber-reinforced samples,so there is efficient flame retardancy in both cases. Therefore,a tailoring of SCP based flame retardants is possible.Additionally, these flame retardants efficiently reduce fiber degradation during combustion of carbon fiber-reinforced epoxy resins as observed by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy.
文摘Microwave processing has great potential for improving composite manufacturing such as reduction of curing time, energy requirements and operational costs. The resin-curing reaction in carbon fiber/epoxy resin composite was promoted by microwave irradiation.
文摘The most common process to manufacture advanced composites is the costly autoclave. One of the out-of-autoclave alternatives is the low-cost vacuum assisted resin infusion(VARI)which produces quality parts with less pollution.Epoxy resin is a widely used composite matrix resin, but its high flammability limits its use as interior composite parts for vehicles. The usual flame retardant for epoxy involves halogen, which is effective but has high smoke toxicity. As a result,halogen-free flame retardant epoxy resin systems become dominant. In this paper, phosphorus flame retardant was combined with benzoxazine(BOZ)to produce synergistic effect and achieve satisfactory flame retardance,as well as mechanical improvement for the epoxy resin.Differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),dynamic mechanical analysis(DMA),thermal gravitational analysis(TGA),the cone calorimeter(CC),and limiting oxygen index(LOI)were used to characterize the resins. The results showed significant improvement on the flame retardance of the synergistically modified resins.Specifically, the carbon residue increased by 113.6%,and the char thickness increased by 6 to 7 times, compared to those of the flammable benchmark resin. The LOI reached 33 and passed the UL94 V-0 vertical burn rating. The modified resins also exhibited adequate stability and viscosity suitable for VARI processes.

文摘The use of fillers to enhance the corrosion protection of epoxy resins has been widely applied. In this work, cerium dioxide(CeO_(2))and benzotriazole(BTA)were introduced into an epoxy resin to enhance the corrosion resistance of Q235 carbon steel.Scanning electron microscopy results indicated that the CeO_(2) grains were rod-like and ellipsoidal in shape, and the distribution pattern of BTA was analyzed by energy dispersive spectroscope. The dynamic potential polarization curve proved the excellent corrosion resistance of the composite epoxy resin with CeO_(2) and BTA co-addition,and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy test analysis indicated the significantly enhanced long-term corrosion protection performance of the composite coating. And the optimal protective performance was provided by the coating containing 0.3%(mass)CeO_(2) and 20%(mass)BTA,which was attributed to the barrier performance of CeO_(2) particles and the chemical barrier effect of BTA.The formation of corrosion products was analyzed using X-ray diffraction. In addition, the corrosion resistance mechanism of the coating was also discussed in detail.
文摘The aim of this study was to optimize the geometry and the design of metallic/composite single bolted joints subjected to tension-compression loading. In this case, there was no contact between the bolt and the composite part and the most stressed region was not the vicinity of the hole but the end of the longest layers of the metallic inserts.

文摘We improved the adhesion between silicon based insulating materials and epoxy resin composites by adding the adhesion promoter cycloborosiloxane(BSi,cyclo-1,3,3,5,7,7-hexaphenyl-1,5-diboro-3,7-disiloxane).The experimental results show that the addition of BSi in the silicone rubber(SR)system significantly increases the tensile shear strength between BSi and epoxy resin(EP),reaching 309%of the original value. On this basis, the mechanism of BSi to enhance the adhesion effect was discussed. The electron deficient B in BSi attracted the electron rich N and O in EP to enhance the chemical interaction, combined with the interfacial migration behavior in the curing process,to improve the adhesion strength. This study provides the design and synthesis ideas of adhesive aids, and a reference for further exploring the interface mechanism of epoxy resin matrix composites.

文摘A flame retardant containing multiple antiflaming elements usually exhibits high-efficient flame retardancy. In conjunction with a low-cost and simple preparation method, APTES-APP has a promising prospect in the high-performance flame-retardant epoxy.
文摘The successful manufacture of thick composites is challenging since the highly exothermic nature of thermoset resins and limited temperature control make avoiding the onset of detrimental thermal gradients within the composite relatively difficult. This phenomenon is mainly caused by exothermic heat reactions. The so-called Michaud's model has been largely used in the literature to reduce the gap between experience and simulation with regard to the effective prediction of the temperature cycle in these processes. In this work, another solution is proposed to simulate the curing process for thick composites, namely preheating the resin to activate the curing reaction before resin injection into the mold.A good agreement between the experiment and the simulation is found. Moreover,in order to minimize the thermal gradient in the final composite, the thermophysical properties of the fiber and the torque(temperature, time)of the Plate have been varied leading to interesting results.

文摘The mechanical properties of Portland cement differ from the weakly consolidated shallow formation in deep water. This results in undesired abrupt changes in the compressive strength and elastic modulus at the cement–formation interface. In this study,a water-borne epoxy resin was applied as a strengthening material to reinforce the weakly consolidated shallow formation and protect the cement sheath from potential failure. The mechanical properties of the unconsolidated clay were tested, including their changes with increases in the temperature and curing time.In addition, the effects of the seawater, cement slurry alkaline filtrate, and saltwater drilling fluid were evaluated. As confirmed by the results, the strengthening fluid was excellent at reinforcing the unconsolidated clay, with a compressive strength of 2.49 MPa(after curing for 7 days),even at a dosage of 5%.A cement slurry filtrate with a high pH was suitable to produce the required strengthening of the formation, especially its early age strength. It should also be pointed out that the used fluid exhibited good compatibility with the saltwater drilling fluid and seawater behaved well as a diluent for the strengthening fluid.

文摘A graphene oxide/nano-silica(GOS)hybrid was rapidly and easily synthesized using graphene oxide(GO)and nano-silica(nano-SiO_(2))as raw materials, and the synthesized GOS was used to improve the mechanical properties of epoxy resin(EP).The modified EP with different mass fractions of GOS(0,0.1%,0.2%,0.3%and 0.4%)were prepared and studied. The structure, thermal stability, mechanical properties, fracture toughness and failure morphology of the modified EP were analyzed. The results showed that the tensile strength of GOS modified EP increased from 40.6 MPa to 80.2 MPa compared with EP,the critical stress intensity factor of GOS modified EP increased by 65.9%from 0.82 MPa·m^(1/2)to 1.36 MPa·m^(1/2),indicating a significant enhancement in fracture toughness. In addition, failure morphology was observed by scanning electron microscopy(SEM)observation. The toughness mechanism of the modified EP was also discussed. Finally, the thermal stability of the modified EP was improved by the addition of GOS.Compared with neat EP,the initial thermal degradation temperature and glass transition temperature of GOS modified EP increased by 4.5℃and 10.3℃,respectively.
