The derived relationship has universal validity for determining the equivalent input noise current spectral density for optical receiver designs, as verified by measuring a 155Mb/s high-impedance optical receiver front.end. Noise contours are used to describe the extent of airport noise pollution and to plan land use around airports. The L WECPN(weighted equivalent continuous perceive noise level) recommended by ICAO(International Civil Aviation Organization) is adopted as airport noise rating parameter in this paper. With the help of various mathematical models in the software Surfer, noise contours can be drawn automatically by the completed program in Visual C++ Code. Corrections for thrust, velocity, atmospheric temperature, humidity and lateral ground attenuation are also considered in the new method, which can improve the efficiency of drawing contours. An example of its use for drawing noise contours of an airport in Zhejiang Province of China is proposed and the predictions and the measurements show agreements well. 展开更多

Noise pollution is one of the major public health problems in urban areas throughout the world.Noise is unwanted sound which produces undesirable problems in day to day life of human being(e.g.,physiological and psychological problems).Rapid increase of the industrialization,urbanization,infrastructure,volume of motor vehicles,and increase in the road networks brought noise pollution to the highest level of disaster in a current situation.In urban areas,road traffic noise plays commanding role among all noise sources and affects the exposed inhabitants.The present work is done to evaluate and assess the traffic noise and its effects in Burla town.Burla,Vidyanagari of Odisha,is an emerging town in India,as it hosts national level of teaching and research institutions like IIM Sambalpur,a medical college-cum-hospital(VIMSAR),a technical university(VSSUT)and Sambalpur University.In last two decade,the road traffic volume has been increased and is facing severe noise pollution to its inhabitants.Noise pollution assessment was made at different locations of the town.This study unveiled the dismal state of noise pollution in the town.Noise contour maps were drawn to visualize the noise level at the traffic and its surroundings.The numbers of hearing impaired patients in different hospitals of the locality are increasing.That shows grim picture of the situation.Regression equations were established taking noise levels with percentage of highly annoyed people during study indicates strong correlation. 展开更多

Determination of the thermal noise limit in test of weak equivalence principle with a rotating torsion pendulum

Thermal noise is one of the most fundamental limits to the sensitivity in weak equivalence principle test with a rotating torsion pendulum. Velocity damping and internal damping are two of many contributions at the thermal noise, and which one mainly limits the torsion pendulum in low frequency is difficult to be verified by experiment. Based on the conventional method of fast Fourier transform, we propose a developed method to determine the thermal noise limit and then obtain the precise power spectrum density of the pendulum motion signal. The experiment result verifies that the thermal noise is mainly contributed by the internal damping in the fiber in the low frequency torsion pendulum experiment with a high vacuum. Quantitative data analysis shows that the basic noise level in the experiment is about one to two times of the theoretical value of internal damping thermal noise. 展开更多

We present a scheme for estimating the noise-equivalent temperature difference(NETD)of frequency upconversion detectors(UCDs)that detect mid-infrared(MIR)light.In particular,we investigate the frequency upconversion of a periodically poled crystal based on lithium niobate,where an MIR conversion bandwidth of 220 nm can be achieved in a single-poled period by a special design.Experimentally,for an MIR radiating target at a temperature of 95℃,the NETD of the device was estimated to be 56 mK with an exposure time of 1 s.Meanwhile,a direct measurement of the NETD was performed utilizing conventional methods,which resulted in 48 mK.We also compared the NETD of our UCD with commercially available direct MIR detectors.We show that the limiting factor for further NETD reduction of our device is not primarily from the upconversion process and camera noise but from the limitations of the heat source and laser performance.Our detectors have good temperature measurement performance and can be used for a variety of applications involving temperature object identification and material structure detection. 展开更多

This research presents the development of HL-2A neutron yield measurement which includes^(235)U fission chamber and BF_(3)and^(3)He proportional counters.Equivalent noise formula of the radiation detection signal amplification system was derived to guide the development of the signal amplification system.Then all detectors were calibrated in situ by using the^(252)C_(f)neutron source.The neutron yield of the HL-2A during neutral beam heating was analyzed.These results indicate that the developed neutron flux diagnostic system can obtain neutron yield results under various experimental conditions of the HL-2A tokamak,and can provide information on neutron yield. 展开更多

A novel room-temperature microbolometer array chip consisting of an Nb5N6 thin film microbridge and a dipole planar antenna, which is used as a terahertz (THz) detector, is described in this paper. Due to the high-temperature coefficient of the resistance of the Nb5N6 thin film, which is as high as –0.7% K-1 , such an antenna-coupled microbolometer is ideal for detecting signals in a frequency range from 0.22THz to 0.33THz. The dc responsivity, calculated from the measured I–V curve of the Nb5N6 microbolometer, is about –760 V/W at a bias current of 0.19mA. A typical noise voltage as low as 10 nV/Hz 1/2 yields a low noise equivalent power (NEP) of 1.3×10-11W/Hz 1/2 at a modulation frequency above 4kHz, and the best RF responsivity, characterized using an infrared device measuring method, is about 580V/W, with the corresponding NEP being 1.7×10-11W/Hz 1/2 . In order to further test the performance of the Nb5N6 microbolometer, we construct a quasi-optical type receiver by attaching it to a hyperhemispherical silicon lens, and the result is that the best responsivity of the receiver is up to 320V/W. This work could offer another way to develop a large scale focal-plane array in silicon using simple techniques and at low cost. 展开更多

Image quality in positron emission tomography(PET)is affected by random and scattered coincidences and reconstruction protocols.In this study,we investigated the effects of scattered and random coincidences from outside the field of view(FOV)on PET image quality for different reconstruction protocols.Imaging was performed on the Discovery 690 PET/CT scanner,using experimental configurations including the NEMA phantom(a body phantom,with six spheres of different sizes)with a signal background ratio of 4:1.The NEMA phantom(phantom I)was scanned separately in a one-bed position.To simulate the effect of random and scatter coincidences from outside the FOV,six cylindrical phantoms with various diameters were added to the NEMA phantom(phantom II).The 18 emission datasets with mean intervals of 15 min were acquired(3 min/scan).The emission data were reconstructed using different techniques.The image quality parameters were evaluated by both phantoms.Variations in the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)in a 28-mm(10-mm)sphere of phantom II were 37.9%(86.5%)for ordered-subset expectation maximization(OSEM-only),36.8%(81.5%)for point spread function(PSF),32.7%(80.7%)for time of flight(TOF),and 31.5%(77.8%)for OSEM+PSF+TOF,respectively,indicating that OSEM+PSF+TOF reconstruction had the lowest noise levels and lowest coefficient of variation(COV)values.Random and scatter coincidences from outside the FOV induced lower SNR,lower contrast,and higher COV values,indicating image deterioration and significantly impacting smaller sphere sizes.Amongst reconstruction protocols,OSEM+PSF+TOF and OSEM+PSF showed higher contrast values for sphere sizes of 22,28,and 37 mm and higher contrast recovery coefficient values for smaller sphere sizes of 10 and 13 mm. 展开更多

In this paper, we study the effect of the drain current on terahertz detection for Si metal-oxide semiconductor fieldeffect transistors(MOSFETs) both theoretically and experimentally. The analytical model, which is based on the smallsignal equivalent circuit of MOSFETs, predicts the significant improvement of the voltage responsivity Rv with the bias current. The experiment on antennas integrated with MOSFETs agrees with the analytical model, but the Rv improvement is accompanied first by a decrease, then an increase of the low-noise equivalent power(NEP) with the applied current. We determine the tradeoff between the low-NEP and high-Rv for the current-biased detectors. As the best-case scenario, we obtained an improvement of about six times in Rv without the cost of a higher NEP. We conclude that the current supply scheme can provide high-quality signal amplification in practical CMOS terahertz detection. 展开更多

This paper investigates the noise inside a metro coach running through the most recent tunnel of Cairo.The study focuses on the effects of alignment profiles on the A-weighted noise level.Although the latest line has not been studied yet,noise levels inside the old lines attracted the attention of researchers due to their importance as the first mass transit system in Africa.Given that windows are usually kept open,measurements were conducted inside the empty cabin at the end of the train with open windows according to ISO 3381:2005.Results showed that noise emissions inside the running coaches are high and do not follow either international or general national legislation,which presents health hazards for drivers and commuters.Speech intelligibility is required for train radio units and driver consoles for voice communications,which provides a safe working environment for the train crew.The present study reveals that tight curves mainly contribute to high noise.The noise levels are further raised by the reflective surface of the tunnel with a circular cross-section and the unballasted track.Moreover,the noise level is affected by the location of the coach and window conditions(open/close)to some extent. 展开更多

The global navigation satellite system(GNSS) has become an important space infrastructure. Following GPS and GLONASS, Europe and China have been building their own global navigation satellite system, respectively, GALILEO and Compass. In order to consolidate the leadership of GPS in the globe, United States is gradually upgrading the traditional GPS. Simultaneously, Russia is also intensively restoring full performance of GLONASS. With the advancement of international satellite navigation system, satellite navigation frequency resources are already in short supply, and the design and use of the navigation signals are more sophisticated and complex due to commercial, disaster relief and other reasons. Since there may be many navigation signals in the same basic bandwidth, the coexistence of multiple systems and the combined application make intersystem mutual interference become the focus research. Under this background, the satellite navigation system mutual interference evaluation system needs to be established urgently to meet and support the compatibility and interoperability of the GNSS system. In the paper, through the performance analysis of the GNSS signal acquisition, carrier tracking, data demodulation and code tracking, the equivalent carrier to noise ratio model based on spectrum isolation coefficient is established, and the theoretical system of the GNSS signal mutual interference is proposed according to the mechanism, and the mutual interference of GPS, GALILEO and Compass system is analyzed and assessed. 展开更多
