The closed-form solutions for error rates of Space-Time Block Code (STBC) Multiple Phase Shift Keying (MPSK) systems are derived in this paper. With characteristic function based method and the partial integration based respectively, the exact expressions of error rates are obtained for (2,1) STBC with and without channel estimation error. Simulations show that the practical error rates accord with the theoretical ones, so closed-form error rates are accurate references for STBC performance evaluation. For the error of pilot assisted channel estimation, the performance of a (2,1) STBC system is deteriorated about 3dB. 展开更多

The theoretical lower bounds on mean squared channel estimation errors for typical fading channels are presented by the infinite-length and non-causal Wiener filter and the exact closed-form expressions of the lower bounds for different channel Doppler spectra are derived. Based on the obtained lower bounds on mean squared channel estimation errors, the limits on bit error rate (BER) for maximal ratio combining (MRC) with Gaussian distributed weighting errors on independent and identically distributed (i. i. d) fading channels are presented. Numerical results show that the BER performances of ideal MRC are the lower bounds on the BER performances of non-ideal MRC and deteriorate as the maximum Doppler frequency increases or the SNR of channel estimate decreases. 展开更多

These problems exist as a result of violating the assumptions of equal variance between the error terms and that of independence between the explanatory variables of the model. With these assumption violations, Ordinary Least Square Estimator</span><span style="font-family:""> </span><span style="font-family:""><span style="font-family:Verdana;">(OLS) will not give best linear unbiased, efficient and consistent estimator. In practice, there are several structures of heteroscedasticity and several methods of heteroscedasticity detection. For better estimation result, best heteroscedasticity detection methods must be determined for any structure of heteroscedasticity in the presence of multicollinearity between the explanatory variables of the model. In this paper we examine the effects of multicollinearity on type I error rates of some methods of heteroscedasticity detection in linear regression model in other to determine the best method of heteroscedasticity detection to use when both problems exist in the model. Nine heteroscedasticity detection methods were considered with seven heteroscedasticity structures. Simulation study was done via a Monte Carlo experiment on a multiple linear regression model with 3 explanatory variables. Adaptive digital filtering has traditionally been developed based on the minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion and has found ever-increasing applications in communications. This paper presents an alternative adaptive filtering design based on the minimum symbol error rate (MSER) criterion for communication applications. It is shown that the MSER filtering is smarter, as it exploits the non-Gaussian distribution of filter output effectively. Consequently, it provides significant performance gain in terms of smaller symbol error over the MMSE approach. Adopting Parzen window or kernel density estimation for a probability density function, a block-data gradient adaptive MSER algorithm is derived. A stochastic gradient adaptive MSER algorithm, referred to as the least symbol error rate, is further developed for sample-by-sample adaptive implementation of the MSER filtering. Two applications, involving single-user channel equalization and beamforming assisted receiver, are included to demonstrate the effectiveness and generality of the proposed adaptive MSER filtering approach. 展开更多

Concerning inter4v mode employed widely in MPEG-4 video, a new temporal error concealment scheme for MPEG-4 video sequences is proposed, which can selectively interpolate one or four motion vectors (MVs) for the missing macroblock ( MB ) according to the estimated MB coding mode. Performance of the proposed scheme is compared with the existing schemes with multiple testing sequences at different bit error rates. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can mask the impairments caused by transmission errors more efficiently than 0 MV and average MV methods by consuming more time for different bit error rates. It has an acceptable image quality close to that obtained by the selective motion vector matching ( SMVM ) algorithm, while taking less than half of cycles of operations. The proposed concealment scheme is suitable for low complexity video real-time implementations. 展开更多

Standard automatic dependent surveillance broadcast (ADS-B) reception algorithms offer considerable performance at high signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs). However, the performance of ADS-B algorithms in applications can be problematic at low SNRs and in high interference situations, as detecting and decoding techniques may not perform correctly in such circumstances. In addition, conventional error correction algorithms have limitations in their ability to correct errors in ADS-B messages, as the bit and confidence values may be declared inaccurately in the event of low SNRs and high interference. The principal goal of this paper is to deploy a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) recurrent neural network model for error correction in conjunction with a conventional algorithm. The data of various flights are collected and cleaned in an initial stage. The clean data is divided randomly into training and test sets. Next, the LSTM model is trained based on the training dataset, and then the model is evaluated based on the test dataset. The proposed model not only improves the ADS-B In packet error correction rate (PECR), but it also enhances the ADS-B In terms of sensitivity. The performance evaluation results reveal that the proposed scheme is achievable and efficient for the avionics industry. It is worth noting that the proposed algorithm is not dependent on conventional algorithms’ prerequisites. 展开更多

In this simulation study, five correlation coefficients, namely, Pearson, Spearman, Kendal Tau, Permutation-based, and Winsorized were compared in terms of Type I error rate and power under different scenarios where the underlying distributions of the variables of interest, sample sizes and correlation patterns were varied. Simulation results showed that the Type I error rate and power of Pearson correlation coefficient were negatively affected by the distribution shapes especially for small sample sizes, which was much more pronounced for Spearman Rank and Kendal Tau correlation coefficients especially when sample sizes were small. In general, Permutation-based and Winsorized correlation coefficients are more robust to distribution shapes and correlation patterns, regardless of sample size. In conclusion, when assumptions of Pearson correlation coefficient are not satisfied, Permutation-based and Winsorized correlation coefficients seem to be better alternatives. 展开更多

The challenging task of handwriting style synthesis requires capturing the individuality and diversity of human handwriting.The majority of currently available methods use either a generative adversarial network(GAN)or a recurrent neural network(RNN)to generate new handwriting styles.This is why these techniques frequently fall short of producing diverse and realistic text pictures,particularly for terms that are not commonly used.To resolve that,this research proposes a novel deep learning model that consists of a style encoder and a text generator to synthesize different handwriting styles.This network excels in generating conditional text by extracting style vectors from a series of style images.The model performs admirably on a range of handwriting synthesis tasks,including the production of text that is out-of-vocabulary.It works more effectively than previous approaches by displaying lower values on key Generative Adversarial Network evaluation metrics,such Geometric Score(GS)(3.21×10^(-5))and Fréchet Inception Distance(FID)(8.75),as well as text recognition metrics,like Character Error Rate(CER)and Word Error Rate(WER).A thorough component analysis revealed the steady improvement in image production quality,highlighting the importance of specific handwriting styles.Applicable fields include digital forensics,creative writing,and document security. 展开更多

Directional modulation(DM)is one of the most promising secure communication techniques.However,when the eavesdropper is co-located with the legitimate receiver,the conventional DM has the disadvantages of weak anti-scanning capability,anti-deciphering capability,and low secrecy rate.In response to these problems,we propose a twodimensional multi-term weighted fractional Fourier transform aided DM scheme,in which the legitimate receiver and the transmitter use different transform terms and transform orders to encrypt and decrypt the confidential information.In order to further lower the probability of being deciphered by an eavesdropper,we use the subblock partition method to convert the one-dimensional modulated signal vector into a twodimensional signal matrix,increasing the confusion of the useful information.Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed DM scheme not only provides stronger anti-deciphering and anti-scanning capabilities but also improves the secrecy rate performance of the system. 展开更多

In QSM, the traditional signal detection methods sometimes are unable to meet the actual requirement of low complexity of the system. Therefore, this paper proposes a signal detection scheme for QSM systems using deep learning to solve the complexity problem. Results from the simulations show that the bit error rate performance of the proposed deep learning-based detector is better than that of the zero-forcing(ZF) and minimum mean square error(MMSE) detectors, and similar to the maximum likelihood(ML) detector. Space-Time Block Coded(STBC)Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(OFDM)satisfies higher data-rate requirements while maintaining signal quality in a multipath fading channel.However,conventional STBCs,including Orthogonal STBCs(OSTBCs),Non-Orthogonal(NOSTBCs),and Quasi-Orthogonal STBCs(QOSTBCs),do not provide both maximal diversity order and unity code rate simultaneously for more than two transmit antennas.This paper targets this problem and applies Maximum Rank Distance(MRD)codes in designing STBCOFDM systems.By following the direct-matrix construction method,we can construct binary extended finite field MRD-STBCs for any number of transmitting antennas.Work uses MRD-STBCs built over Phase-Shift Keying(PSK)modulation to develop an MRD-based STBC-OFDM system.The MRD-based STBC-OFDM system sacrifices minor error performance compared to traditional OSTBC-OFDM but shows improved results against NOSTBC and QOSTBC-OFDM.It also provides 25%higher data-rates than OSTBC-OFDM in configurations that use more than two transmit antennas.The tradeoffs are minor increases in computational complexity and processing delays. 展开更多

Due to the high complexity of the pairwise decoding algorithm and the poor performance of zero forcing( ZF) /minimum mean square error( MMSE) decoding algorithm, two low-complexity suboptimal decoding algorithms, called pairwisequasi-ZF and pairwise-quasi-MMSE decoders, are proposed. First,two transmit signals are detected by the quasi-ZF or the quasiMMSE algorithm at the receiver. Then, the two detected signals as the decoding results are substituted into the two pairwise decoding algorithm expressions to detect the other two transmit signals. The bit error rate( BER) performance of the proposed algorithms is compared with that of the current known decoding algorithms.Also, the number of calculations of ZF, MMSE, quasi-ZF and quasi-MMSE algorithms is compared with each other. Simulation results showthat the BER performance of the proposed algorithms is substantially improved in comparison to the quasi-ZF and quasiMMSE algorithms. The BER performance of the pairwise-quasiZF( pairwise-quasi-MMSE) decoder is equivalent to the pairwiseZF( pairwise-MMSE) decoder, while the computational complexity is significantly reduced. 展开更多

Discriminant Analysis of the Linear Separable Data - Japanese 44 Cars

There are four serious problems in the discriminant analysis. We developed an optimal linear discriminant function (optimal LDF) based on the minimum number of misclassification (minimum NM) using integer programming (IP). We call this LDF as Revised IP-OLDF. Only this LDF can discriminate the cases on the discriminant hyperplane (Probleml). This LDF and a hard-margin SVM (H-SVM) can discriminate the lineary separable data (LSD) exactly. Another LDFs may not discriminate the LSD theoretically (Problem2). When Revised IP-OLDF discriminate the Swiss banknote data with six variables, we find MNM of two-variables model such as (X4, X6) is zero. Because MNMk decreases monotounusly (MNMk 〉= MNM(k+1)), sixteen MNMs including (X4, X6) are zero. Until now, because there is no research of the LSD, we surveyed another three linear separable data sets such as: 18 exam scores data sets, the Japanese 44 cars data and six microarray datasets. When we discriminate the exam scores with MNM=0, we find the generalized inverse matrix technique causes the serious Problem3 and confirmed this fact by the cars data. At last, we claim the discriminant analysis is not the inferential statistics because there is no standard errors (SEs) of error rates and discriminant coefficients (Problem4). Therefore, we poroposed the "100-fold cross validation for the small sample" method (the method). By this break-through, we can choose the best model having minimum mean of error rate (M2) in the validation sample and obtaine two 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of error rate and discriminant coefficients. When we discriminate the exam scores by this new method, we obtaine the surprising results seven LDFs except for Fisher's LDF are almost the same as the trivial LDFs. In this research, we discriminate the Japanese 44 cars data because we can discuss four problems. There are six independent variables to discriminate 29 regular cars and 15 small cars. This data is linear separable by the emission rate (X1) and the number of seats (X3). We examine the validity of the new model selection procedure of the discriminant analysis. We proposed the model with minimum mean of error rates (M2) in the validation samples is the best model. We had examined this procedure by the exam scores, and we obtain good results. Moreover, the 95% CI of eight LDFs offers us real perception of the discriminant theory. However, the exam scores are different from the ordinal data. Therefore, we apply our theory and procedure to the Japanese 44 cars data and confirmed the same conclution. 展开更多

This paper presents a performance study of the distributed coordination function (DCF) of 802.11 networks considering erroneous channel and capture effects under non-saturated traffic conditions employing a basic access method.The aggregate throughput of a practical wireless local area network (WLAN) strongly depends on the channel conditions.In a real radio environment,the received signal power at the access point from a station is subjected to deterministic path loss,shadowing,and fast multipath fading.The binary exponential backoff (BEB) mechanism of IEEE 802.11 DCF severely suffers from more channel idle time under high bit error rate (BER).To alleviate the low performance of IEEE 802.11 DCF,a new mechanism is introduced,which greatly outperforms the existing methods under a high BER.A multidimensional Markov chain model is used to characterize the behavior of DCF in order to account both non-ideal channel conditions and capture effects. 展开更多

The sciatic functional index(SFI) is a popular parameter for peripheral nerve evaluation that relies on footprints obtained with ink and paper. Drawbacks include smearing artefacts and a lack of dynamic information during measurement. Modern applications use digitized systems that can deliver results with less analytical effort and fewer mice. However, the systems are expensive(€40,000). This study aimed to evaluate the applicability and precision of a self-made, low-cost infrared system for evaluating SFI in mice. Mice were subjected to unilateral sciatic nerve crush injury(crush group; n = 7) and sham operation(sham group; n = 4). They were evaluated on the day before surgery, the 2nd, 4th and 6th days after injury, and then every day up to the 23rd day after injury. We compared two SFI evaluation methods, i.e., conventional inkand-paper SFI(C-SFI) and our infrared system(I-SFI). Our apparatus visualized footprints with totally internally reflected infrared light(950 nm) and a camera that can only detect this wavelength. Additionally we performed an analysis with the ladder beam walking test(LBWT) as a reference test. I-SFI assessment reduced the standard deviation by about 33 percent, from 11.6 to 7.8, and cut the variance around the baseline to 21 percent. The system thus requires fewer measurement repetitions and fewer animals, and cuts the cost of keeping the animals. The apparatus cost €321 to build. Our results show that the process of obtaining the SFI can be made more precise via digitization with a self-made, low-cost infrared system. 展开更多

In this paper,the performance of uplink multiuser massive multiple-input multipleoutput(MIMO)system with spatial modulation over transmit-correlated Rayleigh fading channel is investigated,where a large number of antennas are deployed at the base station and linear zero-forcing(ZF)receiver is employed for detection.By taking the transmit correlation and the randomness of shadow fading in to account,the bit error rate(BER)performance of the system is analyzed.According to the performance analysis,an approximated expression of overall average BER of the system is attained.Besides,asymptotic performance is studied and the corresponding BER expression at high signal-to-noise ratio is derived.On this basis,the diversity gain of the system can be obtained for performance evaluation.Simulation results show that the derived theoretical expressions match the simulated values well,which verifies the correctness of our analysis. 展开更多
