Materials and methods: A group of 217 children three to six years of age from a rural area were given a thorough physical examination and the concentration of lead in blood samples taken from each subject was determined. The indices of lymphocyte immunity (CD^+3CD^+4, CD^+3CD^+8, CD^+4CD^+8, CDˉ3CD^+19) and erythrocyte immunity (RBC-C3b, RBC-IC, RFER, RFIR, CD35 and its average fluorescence intensity) of 40 children with blood lead levels above 0.483 μmol/L were measured and compared with a control group. Results: The blood lead levels of the 217 children ranged from 0.11 μmol/L to 2.11 μmol/L. The CD^+3CD^+4and CD^+4CD^+8 cells were lower (P<0.01) and the CD^+3CD^+8 cells were higher in the lead-poisoned subjects than those in the control group (P<0.05). CD^+3 and CDˉ3CD^+19 did not show significant differences. Although the RBC-C3b rosette forming rate was lower and the RBC-IC rosette forming rate was higher in the lead-poisoned group, this difference could not be shown to be statistically significant (P>0.05). RFIR was found to be lower in the lead-poisoned group (P<0.01). Compared with the control group, the positive rate of CD35 was not found to be significantly different in a group of 25 lead-poisoned children (P>0.05), while the average fluorescence intensity was lower in the lead-poisoned group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Lead exposure can result in impaired immune function oft lymphocytes and erythrocytes in preschool children.展开更多

Methods Enzyme linked immnunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to determine the content of IL-2 and sIL-2R. The immunoadsorption was employed to examine the erythrocytic immune activity and its regulating function. Streptavidin-peroxidase(S-P) was used to determine the cell number of CD3 (cluster of differentiation3), CD4 and CD8. Results The content of IL-2 in the group with hypertensive cerebral hemorrhage was significantly lower than that in the control group (P<0.01), and the content of sIL-2R increased. Red blood cell C_ 3b receptor (RBC.C_ 3b R) and RBC immune adherence enhancing factor (RFEB) dropped greatly (P<0.01), while RBC immune complex rosette (RBC.ICR) and RBC immune adherence inhibiting factor (RFIR) increased greatly. The cell number of CD3 and CD4decreased (P<0.01) and there was no obvious change in CD8 (P<0.05). Conclusion The decrease of immune function was observed in patients with hypertensive cerebral hemorrhage. These suggest that polyactin A can improve the adherence of erythrocytes and serum enhancing factors to tumor cells,and their cooperative adherence, thus strengthen the immune function of erythrocytes.展开更多

[ Method] One hun- dred 1 -day-old healthy Sanhuang chickens were randomly divided into five groups, 20 in each group. They were immunized with Newcastle disease vaccine via intranasal inoculation at 7 days old. The chickens in group I, II and III drank water added the Danggguibuxue decoction at proportion of 2%, 5% and 10% ( V/V), respectively. The chickens in the group IV drank water added Astragalus polysaccharide at proportion of 2% (V/V). And those in the group V drank water without addition of any drug. Blood was collected via jugular vein at 14, 21 and 28 days old, respectively, and then they were dissected. The immune organ indexes, erythrocyte C3b receptor rosette rate (E-C3b RR) and erythrocyte immune complex rosette rate (E-ICRR) were measured. [ Result] The Dangguibuxue decoction had no significant effect on thymus index but significantly increased spleen index and bursa of Fabricius index. The best peripheral and humoral immunity was observed in the broilers drinking water added the Dangguibuxue decoction at proportion of 10% ( V/ V), and its immune enhancement was better than that of Astragalus polysaccharide added at proportion of 2% (V/V). [ Coaclusion] Dangguibuxue decoction can promote maturation of immune organs and enhance erythrocyte immune functions; thus, it can be used as immunolootentiator.展开更多

[ Method] Fifteen weanling Landrace piglets as experimental animals were divided into three groups, two testing groups and one control group. For each group, Se content in whole blood, immune function of erythrocytes, activity of whole blood glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px), activity of blood plasma superoxide dismutase(SOD), and blood plasma malondialdehyde(MDA) content were determined. [ Result] Compared with the control group, Se content in whole blood and blood plasma MDA content increased remarkably, while whole blood GSH-Px activity and blood plasma SOD activity decreased; RBC-C1 RR assumed a rise-fall trend, and RBC-ICR showed no obvious change. [Condusion] Se poisoning can reduce the activity of antioxidant enzymes, disturb the balance of oxygen free radicals metabolism, thereby inducing erythrooyte immune function in piglets.展开更多

This study was designed to assess the effect of low-dose radiation on tumor growth and on erythrocyte immune function and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity in tumor-bearing mice. Methods Male Kunming mice were subcutaneously implanted with S 180 sarcoma cells in the right inguen to create an experimental in situ animal model. Six hours before implantation, the mice were given 75 mGy X-ray radiation, over the body. Tumor size was observed 5 days later while tumor volume was calculated every other day, allowing for the creation of a graph depicting tumor growth. Fifteen days after implantation, the mice were killed to measure tumor weight and observe the necrotic areas and the location of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs). Erythrocyte immune function and SOD activity were also determined. Results Mice pre-exposed to low-dose radiation had a lower tumor formation rate than did those receiving no radiation (P<0.05). Tumor growth was significantly lower in the mice pre-exposed to low-dose radiation; after 15 days, the average tumor weight in the mice pre-exposed to low-dose radiation was also lower (P<0.05). Areas of tumor necrosis and infiltration of TILs were larger in the low-dose radiation group than in the non-radiation group. Erythrocyte immune function and SOD activity were higher in the low-dose radiation group than in the non-radiation group (P<0.05). Conclusion Low-dose radiation can markedly increase the anti-tumor ability of an organism and improve erythrocyte immune function and red blood cell SOD activity as well, suggesting that low-dose radiation might be useful in the clinical treatment of cancer.展开更多

Methods: Fort...To study the dynamic changes and its clinical significance of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine (TCM-WM) on IL-2 system, T cell and erythrocyte immune system in patients of lung cancer. Methods: Forty-eight patients with lung cancer were randomly divided into two groups: TCM-WM group (GroupⅠ) and the chemotherapy group(GroupⅡ). The relevant immune indices, clinical symptoms and signs, changes of solid tumor and quality of life were dynamically observed and compared with those in 20 healthy subjects for control. Results: The serum IL-2 level of lung cancer patients were originally significantly lower, while sIL-2R level higher than that of the healthy subjects. And they were raised and lowered respectively after treatment, especially in GroupⅠ, but still remained different from the control group yet. And there were highly negative correlation between IL-2 and sIL-2R levels. The percentage of CD3, CD4 and the CD4/CD8 ratio were decreased markedly in both groups. And the percentage of RBC-C3bRR was obviously lower, while that of RBC-ICR obviously higher. But the above-mentioned indices could be improved after treatment, especially in GroupⅠ, and there were highly positive correlation between CD4/CD8 ratio and RBC-C3bRR. However, in regard to the degree of improvement, the patients of GroupⅠ were in better position than those of Group Ⅱ. At the same time, improvement of their clinical symptoms and signs, change of entity tumor and quality of life of GroupⅠ all proved to be better than those of Group Ⅱ. Conclusion: The therapeutic superiority of TCM-WM on lung cancer may be related to the modulation on immune function. The effect of TCM-WM is better than that of chemotherapy alone.展开更多
