Background:Ischemic stroke is characterized by permanent or transient obstruction of blood flow,leading to a growing risk factor and health burden.Tianmagouteng yin(TMG)is commonly used in Chinese medicine to treat ce...Background:Ischemic stroke is characterized by permanent or transient obstruction of blood flow,leading to a growing risk factor and health burden.Tianmagouteng yin(TMG)is commonly used in Chinese medicine to treat cerebral ischemia.The aim of this study was to investigate the neuroprotective effects of TMG against ischemic stroke.Methods:Either permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion(pMCAO)or sham operation was performed on anesthetized Wistar male rats(n=36).Results:Results demonstrated that TMG administration reduced the infarction volume and mitigated the neurobehavioral deficits.Hematoxylin and eosin(HE)staining and Prussian blue staining revealed that TMG attenuated tissue disruption and microbleeds in hippocampus tissues.In addition,TMG down-regulated the receptor of advanced glycation end products(RAGE)and p-JAK2.It also inhibited the concentrations of advanced glycation end products(AGEs),ferritin,malondialdehyde(MDA),and reactive oxygen species(ROS).Conclusion:As repetitive clinical trials of neuroprotectants targeting stroke have failed previously,our results suggested that the natural product,TMG,can probably help in the vicious cycles of ischemic stroke pathology.展开更多

Methods: With radioimmunoassay, the plasma levels of AVP were measured in 32 elderly patients with acute traumatic cerebral injury, 30 traumatic patients without cerebral injury and 30 healthy elderly volunteers, respectively. Results: The plasma level of AVP in patients with acute traumatic cerebral injury in the early stage ( 48.30 ng/L±8.28 ng/L ) was much higher than that of the traumatic patients without cerebral injury ( 25.56 ng/L±4.64 ng/L , P< 0.01 ), which was much higher than that of the healthy volunteers ( 5.06 ng/L±4.12 ng/L , P< 0.01 ). The level of AVP in the patients with acute traumatic cerebral injury was negatively related with GCS scores. Conclusions: AVP may play an important role in the pathophysiological process in patients with acute traumatic cerebral injury in the early stage. The severer the cerebral injury is, the higher the level of AVP is, which indicates that the level of AVP may be one of the severity indices of traumatic cerebral injury in elderly patients.展开更多

As the average age of the world population increases,more people will face debilitating aging-associated conditions,including dementia and stroke.Not only does the incidence of these conditions increase with age,but t...As the average age of the world population increases,more people will face debilitating aging-associated conditions,including dementia and stroke.Not only does the incidence of these conditions increase with age,but the recovery afterward is often worse in older patients.Researchers and health professionals must unveil and understand the factors behind age-associated diseases to develop a therapy for older patients.Aging causes profound changes in the immune system including the activation of microglia in the brain.Activated microglia promote T lymphocyte transmigration leading to an increase in neuroinflammation,white matter damage,and cognitive impairment in both older humans and rodents.The presence of T and B lymphocytes is observed in the aged brain and correlates with worse stroke outcomes.Preclinical strategies in stroke target either microglia or the lymphocytes or the communications between them to promote functional recovery in aged subjects.In this review,we examine the role of the microglia and T and B lymphocytes in aging and how they contribute to cognitive impairment.Additionally,we provide an important update on the contribution of these cells and their interactions in preclinical aged stroke.展开更多
Objective: To investigate the treatment of chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) with burr-hole craniotomy in our hospital. Methods: From January 2004 to December 2009, 398 patients with CSDH, 338 males and 60 females...Objective: To investigate the treatment of chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) with burr-hole craniotomy in our hospital. Methods: From January 2004 to December 2009, 398 patients with CSDH, 338 males and 60 females (male/ female=5.63/1), received burr-hole craniotomy in our hospital. The median age was 60 years with the mean age of (58.1± 18.1) years, (65.0±14.5) years for females and (57.0± 8.2) years for males. Trauma history was determined in 275 patients (69.1%). Burr-hole craniotomy was performed under local anesthesia in 368 patients and general anesthesia in 30 patients. CSDH was classified into 3 groups according to the density on CT scan. Clinical data concerning etiologies, symptoms and signs, concomitant diseases, diagnosis, therapies and outcomes were investigated retrospectively. Patients' neu- rological status on admission and at discharge was also classified to judge the outcomes. Results: Generally, trauma history showed few dif- ferences between those over 60 years old and under 60 years old, but showed obvious differences when gender was taken into account. Totally 123 male patients (60.0% of 204 cases) suffering from head injuries were under 60 years, whereas 35 female patients (85.4% of 41 cases) with trauma histories were over 60 years. The duration from trauma to appearance of clinical symptoms was (84.0±61.7) days (range, 0-1493 days). Traumatic accident was the leading etiology, other accompanying diseases such as cerebral vascular disease, hypertension, etc, were also predisposing factors. Commonly, the elderly presented with hemiplegia/ hemidysesthesia/hemiataxia and the young with headache. Most CSDH patients (95.6%) treated with burr-hole cran- iotomy successfully recovered. However, postoperative complications occurred in 17 cases, including recurrence of CSDH in 15 cases, subdural abscess in 1 case and pneumonia in 3 cases. Conclusion: Burr-hole craniotomy is an easy, efficient and reliable way to treat CSDH.展开更多

超声造影剂微泡非线性次谐波散射与环境压力之间的相关性有望用于局部脑组织压力的监测。尽管高频超声实现了颅内微血管的高分辨成像,但是当前对微泡的高频次谐波散射特性研究不充分,制约了基于微泡高频次谐波散射估测局部脑组织压力的...超声造影剂微泡非线性次谐波散射与环境压力之间的相关性有望用于局部脑组织压力的监测。尽管高频超声实现了颅内微血管的高分辨成像,但是当前对微泡的高频次谐波散射特性研究不充分,制约了基于微泡高频次谐波散射估测局部脑组织压力的研究进展。因此,本研究以离体方式探索了在10 MHz高频超声激励下,不同声压和环境压力对声诺维(SonoVue)、示卓安(Sonazoid)和华声显三种超声造影剂微泡高频次谐波散射特性的影响。结果显示,在696、766、817 kPa的峰负声压下,三种微泡的次谐波散射幅度均随着环境压力的增加而增长,且次谐波幅值与压力之间具有良好的线性相关性。在上述三个声压下,声诺维的相关性系数最高可达0.948(P=0.03),测压灵敏度最高为0.248 dB/mm Hg,均方根误差(RMSE)最小为2.64 mm Hg;示卓安的相关性系数最高可达0.982(P<0.01),测压灵敏度最高为0.052 dB/mm Hg,RMSE最小为1.51 mm Hg;华声显的相关性系数最高可达0.969(P=0.02),测压灵敏度最高为0.098 dB/mm Hg,RMSE最小为2.00 mm Hg。以上离体实验结果表明,通过选择超声造影剂微泡并优化声压,可以改进微泡的高频次谐波散射与环境压力之间的相关关系、提高测压灵敏度、减小测量误差,以满足临床对局部脑组织压力测量的需求,这为后续在体研究提供了重要的实验依据。展开更多
