In the evaluation of some simulation systems, only small samples data are gotten due to the limited conditions. In allusion to the evaluation problem of small sample data, an interval estimation approach with the improved grey confidence degree is proposed. On the basis of the definition of grey distance, three kinds of definition of the grey weight for every sample element in grey estimated value are put forward, and then the improved grey confidence degree is designed. In accordance with the new concept, the grey interval estimation for small sample data is deduced. Furthermore, the bootstrap method is applied for more accurate grey confidence interval. Through resampling of the bootstrap, numerous small samples with the corresponding confidence intervals can be obtained. Then the final confidence interval is calculated from the union of these grey confidence intervals. In the end, the simulation system evaluation using the proposed method is conducted. The simulation results show that the reasonable confidence interval is acquired, which demonstrates the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method. 展开更多

Vertical tire forces are essential for vehicle modelling and dynamic control. However,an evaluation of the vertical tire forces on a multi-axle truck is difficult to accomplish. The current methods require a large amount of experimental data and many sensors owing to the wide variation of the parameters and the over-constraint.To simplify the design process and reduce the demand of the sensors, this paper presents a practical approach to estimating the vertical tire forces of a multi-axle truck for dynamic control. The estimation system is based on a novel vertical force model and a proposed adaptive treble extend Kalman filter(ATEKF).To adapt to the widely varying parameters,a sliding mode update is designed to make the ATEKF adaptive, and together with the use of an initial setting update and a vertical tire force adjustment, the overall system becomes more robust. In particular, the model aims to eliminate the effects of the over-constraint and the uneven weight distribution. The results show that the ATEKF method achieves an excellent performance in a vertical force evaluation, and its performance is better than that of the treble extend Kalman filter. 展开更多

Quantum parameter estimation is a crucial tool for inferring unknown parameters in physical models from experimental data. The Jaynes–Cummings model is a widely used model in quantum optics that describes the interaction between an atom and a single-mode quantum optical field. In this Letter,we systematically investigate the problem of estimating the atom-light coupling strength in this model and optimize the initial state in the full Hilbert space. We compare the precision limits achievable for different optical field quantum states, including coherent states,amplitude-and phase-squeezed states, and provide experimental suggestions with an easily prepared substitute for the optimal state. Our results provide valuable insights into optimizing quantum parameter estimation in the Jaynes–Cummings model and can have practical implications for quantum metrology with hybrid quantum systems. 展开更多

Transverse waves are a type of structural waves and should be considered in the analysis of high frequency vibration because the energy carried by transverse waves increases with the increase of frequency and becomes important at high frequencies. This paper studies the estimate theory and measuring technique of the transverse wave intensity in two-dimensional homogeneous structures. In general, the intensity vector is the sum of the effective intensity vector and the intensity variation vector. Each axial intensity component is proportional to two imaginary parts of cross spectral densities and its estimate is complicated. For the special case where transverse waves propagate in one direction, the intensity variation is zero and the estimate of the intensity is simplified. The intensity technique is formed based on the finite difference principle. Transverse wave intensity can be measured using a pair of two-transducer arrays lying in the orthogonal direction for the general case or a two-transducer array lying in the propagating direction for the special case. In order to assess the measurement accuracy of transverse wave intensify, the coupling loss factors from bending to transverse waves in building structures were measured using the intensity technique and compared with the results predicted and measured using the conventional method. It is shown that the agreement between the results measured using the intensity technique and that by the conventional method is good. 展开更多

Purpose-Doppler-Bearing Tracking(DBT)is commonly used in target tracking applications for the underwater environment using the Hull-Mounted Sensor(HMS).It is an important and challenging problem in an underwater environment.Design/methodology/approach-The system nonlinearity in an underwater environment increases due to several reasons such as the type of measurements taken, the speeds of target and observer, environmental conditions, number of sensors considered for measurements and so on.Degrees of nonlinearity(DoNL)for these problems are analyzed using a proposed measure of nonlinearity(MoNL)for state estimation.Findings-In this research, the authors analyzed MoNL for state estimation and computed the conditional MoNL(normalized)using different filtering algorithms where measurements are obtained from a single sensor array(i.e.HMS).MoNL is implemented to find out the system nonlinearity for different filtering algorithms and identified how much nonlinear the system is,that is,to measure nonlinearity of a problem.Originality/value-Algorithms are evaluated for various scenarios with different angles on the target bow(ATB)in Monte-Carlo simulation.Computation of root mean squared(RMS)errors in position and velocity is carried out to assess the state estimation accuracy using MATLAB. 展开更多
