Drawing on our research in China’s southern mountains about ethnic medicines, and intrigued by the proverbial Chinese view that Yao Shi Tong Yuan(food and medicine have the same source),this article traces the eventfulness and powers at play in healing and eating when they are seen as closely related forms of life.Ancient and modern traditional Chinese medicine understandings of flavor are here shown to be a common basis for the healing and harming powers of both food and medicine. The term Wu Wei,or five flavors is explored as both experiences of eating and cooking, and some patterns of qi movement that animate and invigorate the body.Following Vivienne Lo’s term“potent flavors,”practices of harmonizing(He,Tiao He)flavors in Chinese medicine,as in cooking, express a world of natural powers and expert embodiment that goes far beyond mere taste. 展开更多

Jing Medicine, as an important part of China’s ethnic medicine and culture, is characterized by its unique theories, rich content, and abundant resources, showcasing distinctive features of minority regions. The Jing ethnic group is distributed in coastal and border areas of China, and after thousands of years of development, it has formed a rich marine-oriented medical system in the struggle against the environment and diseases, displaying unique medication characteristics and clinical efficacy. According to Jing Medicine, the human body is an organic whole that is unified with the natural and social environment. It believes that the heavens and earth are the spirits of all things, and all things possess spiritual energy, which is closely connected to the human body’s spiritual energy. The utilization of marine organisms in medicine is the greatest feature of Jing Medicine, and it is a common approach used by the local population for disease prevention and treatment. To further explore Jing Medicine, improve the repository of ethnic medicine culture, and address the insufficient understanding of Jing Medicine in traditional Chinese medicine culture, this article provides a comprehensive review of the distinctive diagnostic and therapeutic theories, techniques, and applications of internal and external treatments in Jing Medicine. 展开更多

[Objectives]This study was conducted to study the chemical constituents from Laportea bulbifera. [Methods] The 60% ethanol extract from L. bulbifera was isolated and purified by silica, Sephadex LH-20, ODS, semi-preparative HPLC and recrystallization. Their chemical structures were elucidated by physicochemical properties and spectroscopic methods. [Results] These compounds were determined as kaempferol-3-O-α-L-(3-O-acetyl)-rhamnoside-7-O-α-L-rhamnoside(1), sutchuenoside A(2), kaempferol-3-O-[β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→3)]-α-L-(4-O-acetyl)-rhamnopyranoside-7-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside(3). Compounds 1-3 are isolated from genus Laportea for the first time. Compound 3 is a new compound. [Conclusions] This study lays a foundation for improving the quality standard of L. bulbifera and the development and utilization of its resources. 展开更多

In a broad sense, ethnic medicine includes Han traditional Chinese medicine, folk medicine and ethnic minority medicine;ethnic medicine in a narrow sense refers to ethnic minority medicine. It is a medicine developed by ethnic minorities in order to survive and reproduce and in the process of fighting diseases. Culture, based on its own language, life experience and cultural traditions, has its own understanding and theoretical system of disease naming, etiology and pathogenesis, treatment principles and treatment methods, which is a major feature of my country’s medical care. Among them, ethnic medicine has unique advantages and good clinical efficacy in the prevention and treatment of cholelithiasis. Therefore, this paper focuses on summarizing the characteristic theories and diagnosis and treatment experience of Tibetan medicine, Mongolian medicine, Miao medicine, Yao medicine, and Beijing medicine in ethnic medicine by sorting out and summarizing the relevant materials in this regard, so as to provide new ideas for improving the treatment of cholelithiasis and enriching clinical drug selection. 展开更多

Objective: This paper aims to summarize and establish advantageous diseases in Jing ethnic medicine. Methods: The study employed literature review analysis, expert consultation, field investigation, folk visits, and clinical questionnaire surveys to summarize and conclude the advantageous diseases in Jing ethnic medicine. Results: The book “Jing Ethnic Medicine” records a total of 130 single prescriptions, 165 empirical prescriptions, and 99 dietary therapy prescriptions. Among these, the most frequently recorded prescriptions are for colds (17), coughs (22), gastric pain (31), diarrhea (22), abdominal pain (3), rheumatism (8), hepatitis (11), trauma (34, including injuries from poisonous fish, jellyfish stings, and falls), skin diseases (23), postpartum conditions (10), pediatric fever (3), pediatric malnutrition (4), and pediatric diarrhea (7). A total of 38 questionnaires were distributed and all 38 were valid, revealing that the top five advantageous diseases are colds (including pediatric colds and fever), abdominal pain, gastric pain, skin diseases, and bone pain. Conclusion: The advantageous diseases in Jing ethnic medicine are relatively clear, and standardized research on the diagnostic and therapeutic techniques for gastric diseases, pediatric abdominal heat pain (colds), and abdominal pain (gallstones) should be conducted. 展开更多

Objective: This paper aims to observe the clinical efficacy of a customized prescription from the Jing ethnic group in treating children with Yang syndrome of common cold. Methods: A total of 160 patients diagnosed with Yang syndrome of common cold at the pediatric outpatient clinic of Fangchenggang City Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from September 2023 to September 2024 were selected and randomly divided into a control group and an observation group, each with 80 cases. The control group was orally administered Compound Paracetamol, Chlorphenamine Maleate, and Caffeine Oral Solution, while the treatment group received the customized prescription from the Jing ethnic group in addition to the treatment given to the control group. Both groups were treated for three days. During the treatment period, if the axillary temperature of the children in both groups reached or exceeded 39.0˚C, Dexibuprofen Oral Solution could be additionally administered. The time of antipyretic onset, the interval before axillary temperature rebounded within 24 hours after the first antipyretic effect, and the highest axillary temperatures on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd days were compared between the two groups, as well as their therapeutic effects. Results: Compared with the control group, the treatment group had an earlier onset of antipyretic effect (P Conclusion: The customized prescription from the Jing ethnic group for treating children with Yang syndrome of common cold has a rapid onset, a lasting antipyretic duration, and excellent efficacy without significant adverse reactions, making it worthy of clinical promotion. 展开更多
