China’s Outward Foreign Direct Investment and Economic Growth in Developing Countries

The implementation of China’s open development strategy has unveiled a wave of outward foreign direct investment(OFDI)by Chinese companies,with global implications.Based on panel data from 146 developing countries from 2003 to 2017,we investigate the growth effects of China’s OFDI.We find that China’s OFDI has promoted significant economic growth in developing countries.Not only could China’s OFDI increase GDP per capita of a country in a short time but raise the country’s long-run equilibrium value as well.In addition,the growth effects of China’s OFDI were more significant for countries with weak governance,rich resource,and modest human capital,and were above the average level for Belt and Road Initiative(BRI)countries,African countries,and in the post-crisis era.Our research helps unravel the global significance of Chinese companies investing overseas and contributes to research on the growth effects of direct investment between developing countries.

Forty Years Development of China's Outward Foreign Direct Investment:Retrospect and the Challe nges Ahead

Outwardforeign direct investment(OFDI)has increasingly become an important method for China to integrate into the world economy.This paper comprehensively reviews and analyzes policy development and the changing pattern of China's OFDI over the past 40 years.We divide the development into"restricted”(1978-1999),"relaxed"(2000-2016)and"regulated",(2017 onwards)stages.This paper also reviews literature on the impact of Chinese OFDI on China and host countries.Despite its generally positive effects,large-scale and unbalanced OFDI activities have alarmed Chinese policymakers.Both developing and developed host countries have expressed their concern over national security and the misbehavior of some Chinese overseas enterprises.Therefore,greater supervision and adjustment from quantity to quality growth is necessary for the future development of China's OFDI.

How China's Holdings of Foreign Reserves Affect the Value of the US Dollar in Europe and Asia

By January 2009, China held almost US$2tn in foreign reserves. The present paper estimates the marginal effect of China changing its holdings offoreign reserves on the value of the US dollar in Europe and dsia. Because using traditional techniques to find this estimate would be inappropriate due to severe problems resulting from omitted variables, the present paper uses a new approach, bidirectional-reiterative trucated projected least squares, that has been proven to minimize problems associated with omitted variables. It is found that if China would sell 1 percent of its foreign reserves, then the value of the US dollar would fall by 0.44 percent. With such a large effect, China has an incentive to either not sell arty of its US dollar reserves or sell all of its US dollar reserves.

Gu Jiegang’s “Discussion of Ancient History” Movement and It Relationship with Developments in Western Sinology

The scholarship in modern China is closely related to Western sinology in terms of school ties.Gu Jiegang’s launching of the"Discussion of Ancient History"movement centered on the"theory of the accumulated creation of Chinese ancient history"was a representative example.At the beginning of the movement Hu Shi and Gu Jiegang proposed the notion that,"there was no history before the Eastern Zhou Dynasty"which was indebted to the historical skepticism by Philip Van Ness Myers(American scholar)and Friedrich Hirth(German sinologist)of the same period.The idea that"the Shang Dynasty is still in the late Stone Age"advocated by Hu and Gu was also directly influenced by J.G.Andersson’s An Early Chinese Culture.Conversely,American sinologist Arthur W.Hummel Sr played a key role in introducing and evaluating the first volume of Discussion of Ancient History to Western academia.Paradoxically,while Swedish sinologis Bernhard Karlgren wrote On the Authenticity and Nature of the Tso Chuan to refute Kang Youwei’s reinterpretation of Confucian Classics(The Forged Classics of the Wang Mang Period),his work however became of value for Chinese historic doubt scholars to reaffirm the value of New Text Confucianism and advance the"Discussion of Ancient History"movement.If we would like to choose a saying to describe the relationship between the"Discussion of Ancien History"movement and Western Sinology,the Chinese proverb,"Stones from other hills may serve to polish jade of this one,"may be an appropriate choice.

China’s foreign direct investment in BRICS countries:status,problems and prospects

The emerging economies,represented by the BRICS,have risen rapidly in post-crisis era in both economic development and national competitiveness.In order to ensure a stable and sustainable long-term development of national economy,the governments of BRICS countries have shown positive attitude to foreign direct investment.This is a great opportunity for China to increase its direct investment in these countries,which will not only provide strong support to China’s“going global”strategy,but also help avoid risks arising from intensive investment in its traditional investment regions.This article focuses on the status of Chinese outward direct investment in the BRICS countries by analyzing existing problems in investment process and providing forecast as well as future agenda on China’s direct investment in these countries.

The Economic and Trade Factors in China’s National Image in the Arab Countries

In the context of globalization,although governments maintain the leading role in shaping the image of states,the increasing bilateral economic and trade exchanges are gradually becoming an equally important,if not more important,element.The recent years have witnessed a continuous growth of trade between China and Arab countries—a newly established crucial trading partner and platform for practicing the“going-out”strategy.Thanks to both sides complimenting each other,a positive win-win situation has been achieved.However,as more and more Chinese merchandises and enterprises have entered the Arab world,certain problems have emerged,such as poor quality of merchandises,illegal operation of enterprises,and difficulties of certain Chinese employees integrating into local life.These economic and trade elements have become key factors in shaping China’s image in the Arab countries,and hence should not be left unattended.

运用文献资料法和逻辑分析法,对中外体育人文交流的现状与运行机制进行研究。研究认为:中外体育人文交流的机制化水平不断提高,但缺乏宏观性战略引领;交流主体日益多元化,但非政府组织力量发挥不足;交流内容不断丰富,但创新性不够。笔者从动力机制、决策机制、执行机制和保障机制4个方面探究了中外体育人文交流的运行机制,并提出推进策略:宏观层面加强顶层设计,增强交流的驱动力;中观层面加强协同性,提升交流的决策力;微观层面强调多元化,形成交流的合力;注重交流质量,保障交流的有效供给。

中外医院绩效管理比较分析

目的对中外医院绩效管理进行比较分析,以期为我国医院绩效管理提供借鉴与参考。方法利用NVivo软件对CNKI、Web of Science数据库中国内外医院绩效管理相关文献分别进行内容质性比较分析。结果从“需求面-供给面-政策面”3个维度以及“宏观-中观-微观”3个层面分析我国与国外医院在绩效管理上的差异,发现国内外医院在绩效指标拟定、过程管理、外部评价、信息化程度、绩效工具应用等方面存在差异。结论我国医院绩效管理要关注患者的需求,适应卫生政策的变化,营造重视患者体验的绩效管理文化,完善以国考为导向的绩效评价体系,构建整合医院、科室和员工的绩效激励体系,不断推动公立医院绩效管理高质量发展。
