Methods: Ninety-seven MACP patients admitted to our hospital from September 2021 to September 2023 were randomly selected and were divided into Group A (control group, 46 cases, rehabilitation training treatment) and Group B (observation group, 51 cases, extracorporeal shock wave with rehabilitation training treatment), and outcomes of the two groups were compared. Results: The treatment efficiency, post-treatment clinical indexes (upper and lower limb function scores, activities of daily living (ADL) scores, visual analog scale (VAS) scores), and short-form 36 (SF-36) scores of Group B were better than those of Group A (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Combined extracorporeal shock wave and rehabilitation training treatment for MACP patients improved their limb function, daily activities, quality of life, and reduced pain.展开更多

In this study, we aim to assess the outcomes of extracorporeal shock wave therapy in patients with coccydynia. METHODS A prospective case series study was carried out from January to December 2015. Twenty-three patients, mean age of 38.3±12.1 (range 18-64), were included. The majority were females (13;56.5%), had pain for at least 6 weeks (17;73.9%) and had trauma to the sacrococcygeal region (17;73.9%). They had three sessions (one session per week for three consecutive weeks) of focused shock wave therapy directed to the maximal point of coccygeal tenderness. Numerical pain scale and Oswestry disability index were used to assess outcome. RESULTS Six (26.1%) patients did not complete the follow-up because of no, or minimal, improvement of their pain. After 6 months of follow-up, the median numerical pain scale significantly decreased from 7.0±4.0 to 2.0±2.0 among the 17 patients with coccydynia (P<0.001). The median Oswestry disability index improved from 24.0±9.0 before therapy to 8.0±9.0 at final follow-up (P<0.001). Before treatment, 12 (70.6%) patients had moderate-to-severe disability. In contrast, no patients had severe disability and only one (5.9%) patient had moderate disability at final follow-up (P<0.001). CONCLUSION Extracorporeal shock wave therapy had favorable outcomes in treating coccydynia. The majority of patients had partial relief of their pain and disability following this therapy.展开更多

Background Pain physicians pay close attention to neuropathic pain (NP),since there is currently no ideal treatment.Radial shock wave therapy (RSWT) is a noninvasive treatment to chronic pain of soft tissue disord...Background Pain physicians pay close attention to neuropathic pain (NP),since there is currently no ideal treatment.Radial shock wave therapy (RSWT) is a noninvasive treatment to chronic pain of soft tissue disorders.So far,there is no information on the use of RSWT for the treatment of NP.Therefore we observe the effects of RSWT on a NP model induced by chronic constriction injury (CCI) in rats.Methods Four different energy densities (1.0,1.5,2.0 and 2.5 bar) RSWT administered as a single session or repeated sessions in rats with NP induced by CCI of the sciatic nerve.The analgesic effect was assessed by measuring mechanical withdrawal threshold (MWT) and thermal withdrawal latency (TWL).The safety was assessed through calculating sciatic functional index (SFI).Results MWT and TWL increased after a single session of RSWT from day 1 to day 5 but retumed to baseline levels by day 10.Following repeated sessions of RSWT,both the MWT and TWL were significantly higher than NP group (P < 0.01)for at least 4 weeks.In addition,no significant changes of SFI were observed in any groups after repeated sessions of RSWT and no increased pain or other side effects in any animals.Conclusions A single session of RSWT is rapidly effective in the treatment of CCI,but the efficacy maintained in a short period.However,repeated sessions of RSWT have prolonged efficacy.展开更多
