The response characteristics of the warhead under thermal stimuli conditions are important to the safety improvement.The goal of this study is to obtain data on the warhead in the fast cook-off process.In this paper,a...The response characteristics of the warhead under thermal stimuli conditions are important to the safety improvement.The goal of this study is to obtain data on the warhead in the fast cook-off process.In this paper,a numerical calculation method is proposed,whose reliability is supported by comparison with experimental results.Through the numerical calculation,the temperature distribution,temperature change,and ignition time are acquired.The numerical results show that the ignition time is 76 s after the warhead started to burn and that the maximum temperature of the explosive’s outer surface is 238.3℃ at the ignition time.The fast cook-off experiment of the warhead is implemented so as to get the flame temperature and reaction grades that are not available through numerical calculation.The experimental results show that the overpressure fails to reach the preset minimumvalue which is equivalent to 6 kg of TNT and that the reaction grade is deflagration.The research results have reference value for the design of the warhead and the reduction of detonation risks.展开更多

A t...In order to investigate thermal response of explosive at fast cook-off environment, the fast cook-off tests for GHL explosive, subjected to external fire scenario, were carried out. The ignition time was measured. A thermal reaction model of GHL explosive was established. The external flame flow and decomposing heat of explosive were considered. The numerical simulation of cook-off test was conducted by computational fluid dynamics(CFD) software, FLUENT. Comparing the calculated results with the measured, external heat flow and kinetic parameters of GHL explosive were achieved. Ignition temperature, ignition position and temperature distribution in explosive were analyzed. The optimization of fuel pool size was also discussed by calculations. The measured results show that only burning reactions occurred during the tests. The ignition time and ignition temperature were 43 s and 583 K respectively. The ignition position lied in the underside of both ends of cylindrical explosive, which was placed horizontally. The modeled results indicate that the optimum fuel pool is 1 000 mm wide, which can ensure complete engulfment of explosive cylinder by external fire and save fuel oil.展开更多

Based on the characteristics of gas emiss...Given the problem of the long time required for testing gas pressure, we propose a fast-test method in which we used a technique of fast borehole sealing and air replenishing. Based on the characteristics of gas emission from boreholes to be tested, we built a theoretical model for calculating parameters during the process of increasing natural pressure and aeration. Using this model, we investigated the effect of different aeration conditions on velocity of pressure tests. The result shows that: 1) aerating air into boreholes can speed up gas pressure tests and 2) the more similar the pressure of the aerated air to the original gas pressure, the smaller the gas volume absorbed by coal and the shorter the time needed in pressure test. A case study in the Lu’an mining area shows that the time needed for gas pressure test is only 4 h using our method of aeration and 29 h under conditions of increasing natural pressure, saving time by 86.2%. This case study also indicates that, by using the aeration method, only one hour is needed for gas pressure to reach a stable state, which breaks the record of the shortest time needed for gas pressure tests in China.展开更多
A highly accurate and precise technique for measurement of the 93 Nb(n,n’)93m Nb reaction rate was established for the material surveillance tests,etc.in fast reactors.The self-absorption effect on the measurement of...A highly accurate and precise technique for measurement of the 93 Nb(n,n’)93m Nb reaction rate was established for the material surveillance tests,etc.in fast reactors.The self-absorption effect on the measurement of the characteristic X-rays emitted by 93m Nb was decreased by the dissolution and evaporation to dryness of niobium dosimeter.A highly precise count of the number of 93 Nb atoms was obtained by measuring the niobium solution concentration using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry.X-rays of 93m Nb were measured accurately by means of comparing the X-ray intensity of irradiated niobium solution with that of the solution in which stable 93 Nb was added.The difference between both intensities indicates the effect of 182 Ta,which is generated from an impurity tantalum,and the intensity of X-rays from 93m Nb was evaluated.Measurement error of the 93 Nb(n,n’)93m Nb reaction rate was reduced to be less than 4%,which was equivalent to the other reaction rate errors of dosimeters used for Joyo dosimetry.In addition,an advanced technique using Resonance Ionization Mass Spectrometry was proposed for the precise measurement of 93m Nb yield,and 93m Nb will be resonance-ionized selectively by discriminating the hyperfine splitting of the atomic energy levels between 93 Nb and 93m Nb at high resolution.展开更多
