This is due to the backup of fluid in the eye; it causes damage to the optic nerve. Hence, early detection diagnosis and treatment of an eye help to prevent the loss of vision. In this paper, a novel method is proposed for the early detection of glaucoma using a combination of magnitude and phase features from the digital fundus images. Local binary patterns(LBP) and Daugman’s algorithm are used to perform the feature set extraction. The histogram features are computed for both the magnitude and phase components. The Euclidean distance between the feature vectors are analyzed to predict glaucoma. The performance of the proposed method is compared with the higher order spectra(HOS)features in terms of sensitivity, specificity, classification accuracy and execution time. The proposed system results 95.45% output for sensitivity, specificity and classification. Also, the execution time for the proposed method takes lesser time than the existing method which is based on HOS features. Hence, the proposed system is accurate, reliable and robust than the existing approach to predict the glaucoma features.展开更多

Rock-type identification is an integrated part of quality planning for limestone mine. In this paper, a computer vision-based rock-type classification algorithm is proposed for fast and reliable identification without human intervention. A laboratory scale vision-based model was developed using probabilistic neural network(PNN) where color histogram features are used as input. The color image histogram-based features that include weighted mean, skewness and kurtosis features are extracted for all three color space red, green, and blue. A total nine features are used as input for the PNN classification model. The smoothing parameter for PNN model is selected judicially to develop an optimal or close to the optimum classification model. The developed PPN is validated using the test data set and results reveal that the proposed vision-based model can perform satisfactorily for classifying limestone rocktypes. Overall the error of mis-classification is below 6%. When compared with other three classification algorithms, it is observed that the proposed method performs substantially better than all three classification algorithms.展开更多

In this paper, we enhance the target color feature by attenuating the background color within the kernel through enlarging the pixel weightings which map to the pixels on the target. This way, the background pixel interference is largely suppressed in the color histogram in the course of constructing the target reference model. In addition, the proposed method also reduces the number of Meanshift iterations, which speeds up the algorithmic convergence. The two tests validate the proposed approach with improved tracking robustness on real-world video sequences.展开更多

Tra- ditional manual surveying of rice planthoppers is time-consuming, fatiguing, and subjective. A new three-layer detection method was proposed to detect and identify white-backed planthoppers (WBPHs, Sogatella furcifera (Horvath)) and their developmental stages using image processing. In the first two detection layers, we used an AdaBoost classifier that was trained on a histogram of oriented gradient (HOG) features and a support vector machine (SVM) classifier that was trained on Gabor and Local Binary Pattern (LBP) features to detect WBPHs and remove impurities. We achieved a detection rate of 85.6% and a false detection rate of 10.2%. In the third detection layer, a SVM classifier that was trained on the HOG features was used to identify the different developmental stages of the WBPHs, and we achieved an identification rate of 73.1%, a false identification rate of 23.3%, and a 5.6% false detection rate for the images without WBPHs. The proposed three-layer detection method is feasible and effective for the identification of different developmental stages of planthoppers on rice plants in paddy fields.展开更多
