Monte Carlo calculation of the exposure of Chinese female astronauts to earth’s trapped radiation on board the Chinese Space Station

With the development of China’s crewed space mission,the space radiation risk for astronauts is increasingly prominent.This paper describes a simulation of the radiation doses experienced by a Chinese female voxel phantom on board the Chinese Space Station(CSS)performed using the Monte Carlo N-Particle(MCNP)software.The absorbed dose,equivalent dose,and effective dose experienced by the voxel phantom and its critical organs are discussed for different levels of shielding of the Tianhe core module.The risk of space-radiation exposure is then assessed by comparing these doses with the current risk limits in China(the skin dose limit for short-term low-earth-orbit missions)and the NASA figures(National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements Report No.98)for female astronauts.The results obtained can be used to guide and optimize the radiation protection provided for manned space missions.

Muscular atrophy and weakness in the lower extremities in Behçet’s disease: A case report and review of literature

BACKGROUND In Behçet’s disease(BD),very few cases of muscular involvement have been reported previously.The natural history and therapeutic protocol for muscular involvement in BD are obscure due to the low incidence of peripheral neuropathy or myopathy in BD.The purpose of our study was to report a rare case of BD with chronic,focal forms of neuromyopathy and review the relevant literature.CASE SUMMARY We herein report the case of a 54-year-old man who presented with progressive muscular atrophy and weakness of both thighs 2 years after the presentation of the cardinal symptoms of BD.The past medical history,electrophysiological study,neurological examination,blood tests,magnetic resonance imaging study,and histological exam were performed for the differential diagnosis.Relevant literature on muscular involvement in BD was reviewed.Neurological examination revealed that muscular involvement was predominantly localized in the proximal parts of the lower extremities.Heterogeneous enhancement of several thigh muscles was observed on magnetic resonance imaging,which corresponded with the clinical manifestations.Histological study of one of the enhanced muscles showed denervation atrophy of the muscle with superimposed myopathic changes,while electrophysiological studies only suggested denervation.CONCLUSION To our knowledge,this is the first case of neurogenic muscular atrophy with a specific set of clinical,radiological,electrophysiological,and histological findings reported in BD.

Study on intestinal flora of acupoint catgut embedding intervention in female patients with abdominal obesity: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial

Background:Obesity,as an epidemic public health issue in the world today,not only brings a heavy medical burden to society but also seriously affects people’s quality of life.In the context of new evidence for the efficacy of acupoint catgut embedding(ACE)in abdominal obesity(AO),it is necessary to elucidate the mechanism of ACE for AO.The intestinal flora is closely associated with obesity,and the study of its intestinal flora may provide evidence to clarify the mechanism of obesity treatment by ACE.Methods:75 participants will be recruited in this study,including 60 eligible female patients diagnosed with AO and 15 healthy female participants.60 female AO patients will be randomized to ACE group,sham ACE group,and waiting list(WL)group in a ratio of 1:1:1.Patients in two ACE groups will receive one ACE treatment per week for 12 consecutive weeks,and in the WL group will not receive any treatment;only their data will be extracted.The primary outcome is the mean change in body mass index.Secondary effects include waist circumference,body weight,the visual analog score of appetite,and the Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale.High-throughput 16S ribosomal ribonucleic acid gene sequencing will be used to detect intestinal flora in each group before and after the intervention.Conclusion:The results of this trial are expected to identify the critical intestinal flora causing AO and the target intestinal flora of AO regulated by ACE,providing further theoretical support for ACE in the clinical treatment of obesity.

(S,T)-WEAK TRACTABILITY OF MULTIVARIATE LINEAR PROBLEMS IN THE AVERAGE CASE SETTING

The purpose of this article is to investigate (s, t)-weak tractability of multivariate linear problems in the average case set ting. The considered algorithms use finitely many evaluations of arbitrary linear functionals. Generally, we obtained matching necessary and sufficient conditions for (s,t)-weak tractability in terms of the corresponding non-increasing sequence of eigenvalues. Specifically, we discussed (s, t)-weak tractability of linear tensor product problems and obtained necessary and sufficient conditions in terms of the corresponding one-dimensional problem. As an example of applications, we discussed also (s,t)-weak tractability of a multivariate approximation problem.

Determination of Time-Dependent Coefficients for a Weakly Degenerate Heat Equation

In this paper,we consider solving numerically for the first time inverse problems of determining the time-dependent thermal diffusivity coefficient for a weakly degenerate heat equation,which vanishes at the initial moment of time,and/or the convection coefficient along with the temperature for a one-dimensional parabolic equation,from some additional information about the process(the so-called over-determination conditions).Although uniquely solvable these inverse problems are still ill-posed since small changes in the input data can result in enormous changes in the output solution.The finite difference method with the Crank-Nicolson scheme combined with the nonlinear Tikhonov regularization are employed.The resulting minimization problem is computationally solved using the MATLAB toolbox routine lsqnonlin.For both exact and noisy input data,accurate and stable numerical results are obtained.

Reliability Evaluation on Weak Signal Extraction for Airgun Source Surveys

Based on the data synthesis simulation and the actual processing of the airgun seismic source signal,three quantitative indicators of signal-to-noise ratio,waveform correlation coefficient and phase offset,are superimposed. We systematically evaluate the functions of the following three stack methods including linearity,phase weighting and S-transform in the extraction of weak signals under strong background noise and quantitatively estimate the reliability of the stack results. Through the comprehensive discussion of the above three methods of stack results,the preliminary comparative analysis believes that the linear stack signal-to-noise ratio is low,but the waveform distortion is minimal; the phase-weighted superimposed signal-to-noise ratio is high and the phase offset is small,but the results of the waveform quality and linear stack are larger than the deviation; the S-transform stack has a relatively higher signal-to-noise ratio and a small loss of waveform amplitude,but there is a certain phase shift phenomenon. It is therefore suggested that linear stack technology should be used when the requirements of both waveform quality and time precision are high. However,the selection of the stack method when the airgun source excitation is limited should be emphasized. If high fidelity is required, the S-transform stack method should be selected; if the required time is high,accuracy can be selected by phase-weighted stack method to achieve reasonable extraction of weak signals.
