A theoretical model of the fiber Bragg grating Fabry–Perot(FBG-FP) transmission spectrum considering loss of FBG and intra-cavity fiber is presented. Several types of FBG-FPs are inscribed experimentally, and their spectra are measured.The results confirm that weak intra-cavity loss is enhanced at the resonance transmission peak, that is, loss of transmission peaks is observably larger than other wavelengths. For FBG-FPs with multi resonance peaks, when the resonance peak wavelength is closer to the Bragg wavelength, the more significant loss effect of resonance transmission peak is exhibited.The measured spectra are fitted with the presented theoretical model. The fitted coefficient of determinations are near 1,which proves the validity of the theoretical model. This study can be applied to measure FBG loss more accurately, without a reference light. It can play an important role in FBG and FBG-FP writing process optimization and application parameter optimization. 展开更多

Numerous studies showed that synthetic fibers are effective for reinforcing the mechanical performance of the asphalt mixture due to their high strength properties,ductility,and durability characteristics.In this paper,the objective is to present a review of the reinforcement effect of synthetic fiber on the mechanical performance of the asphalt mixture.This paper reviews the relevant literature on the characterizations and applications of synthetic fibers to improve different mechanical properties of asphalt mixes,which can provide a reference for the applications and development of synthetic fibers in asphalt pavement.The characteristics of common synthetic fibers are introduced and the utilization of synthetic fibers in asphalt mixture is discussed.Different surface treatment methods for fiber are reviewed and it is found that surface treatment can improve the performance of the synthetic fibers in asphalt mixtures,especially the chemical surface treatment method.The influence of synthetic fiber addition on the mechanical properties of the asphalt concrete such as rutting resistance,tensile strength,water stability performance,and cracking resistance are then discussed.The research results show that aramid,glass,and polyester fibers improve the fatigue cracking resistance of asphalt mixture.Polyester fibers,polyamide fibers,and carbon fibers are used to improve resistance to the permanent deformation of asphalt pavement. 展开更多

The growth performance and histochemical characteristics of breast muscle fibers were used to estimate the standardized ileal digestible(SID)Lys requirements for 10-to 21-d-old male broilers.Three hundred and sixty 10-d-old Ross 308 broilers(290±16.6 g)were allocated to 6 diets in a randomized complete block design with 6 replicate cages per treatment and 10 birds per cage.The 6 experimental diets were formulated to contain equally spaced increasing levels of SID Lys from 0.86%to 1.36%.The data were analyzed using the MIXED procedure of SAS.The Lys requirements were estimated by the NLIN procedure of SAS.An increase in dietary SID Lys from 0.86%to 1.36%resulted in a quadratic increase(P<0.05)in body weight gain(BWG),gain to feed ratio(G:F),breast weight,muscle cross-sectional area(MCSA),and fiber area.The SID Lys requirements based on the one-slope broken-line,quadratic line,the first intercept between the plateau of the one-slope broken-line and quadratic-line models and 95%of the upper asymptote of the quadratic-line model were estimated to be 1.01%,1.19%,1.08%,and 1.13%for BWG,1.06%,1.22%,1.11%,and 1.16%for G:F,1.10%,1.29%,1.19%,and 1.22%for breast weight,1.06%,1.22%,1.12%,and 1.16%for MCSA,and 1.14%,1.22%,1.16%,and 1.16%for breast muscle fiber area,respectively.It was concluded that the SID Lys requirements for broilers at the age of 10 to 21 d depended on the response variables used for estimation,and that histochemical characteristics of breast muscle fibers could be good indicators for estimating SID Lys requirements. 展开更多

The effects of high drawing speeds on parameters of holey fibers are presented. A holey fiber preform structure was made by using tube-in-tube method and was drawn at high speeds with an aim of mass production to meet the demand of next generation communication systems. Transmission parameters such as numerical aperture and normalized frequency of the fabricated holey fibers have been measured and compared with theoretical values based on effective index method. Although the fabricated holey fibers were not of high quality, the analyses of the parameters have shown promising outlook for fabrication of such fibers. 展开更多

Two kinds of Nb-doped silica fibers, an NbCl5-doped fiber and an Nb205-doped fiber, are fabricated and char- acterized in this Letter. First, the refractive index profiles of both fibers are obtained, and then their Raman spectra are measured with 785 nm exciting light. The Nb-doped fibers' Raman spectra are compared with a conventional GeO2-doped single-mode silica fiber that is prepared with the same method and under the same conditions. As a result, the Raman gain coefficients of the Nb-doped silica fiber core are obtained. The exper- imental results show that Nb2O5 doping can enhance the Raman scattering intensity of the optical fibers. 展开更多

We propose a novel non-contact rotational sensor based on a fiber Bragg grating(FBG) packaged in a core of a magnetic head, which converts the introduced strain from the circular magnetic railings ruler into the rotational information. A mathematical model is built for processing the data obtained by an interrogator, and the accuracy and resolution of the measurements are analyzed by altering the radius and period of the circular magnetic railings ruler, as well as the dimension of the sensor. The experimental results show that it is in good accordance with the theoretical analysis on rotational angle, and the fitting results indicate that the results obtained from the rotational sensor match very well with the real rotational velocity with a linearity of 0.998 and a standard error of about 0.01. 展开更多

This work is aimed at developing an effective method for defect recognition in thermosonic imaging.The heat mechanism of thermosonic imaging is introduced,and the problem for defect recognition is discussed.For this purpose,defect existing in the inner wall of a metal pipeline specimen and defects embedded in a carbon fiber reinforced plastic(CFRP) laminate are tested.The experimental data are processed by pulse phase thermography(PPT) method to show the phase images at different frequencies,and the characteristic of phase angle vs frequency curve of thermal anomalies and sound area is analyzed.A binary image,which is based on the characteristic value of defects,is obtained by a new recognition algorithm to show the defects.Results demonstrate good defect recognition performance for thermosonic imaging,and the reliability of this technique can be improved by the method. 展开更多

While all-optical networks become more and more popular as the basis of the next generation Internet(NGI)infrastructure,such networks raise many critical security issues.High power inter-channel crosstalk attack is one of the security issues which have negative effect on information security in optical networks.Optical fiber in optical networks has some nonlinear characteristics,such as self phase modulation(SPM),cross phase modulation(XPM),four-wave mixing(FWM)and stimulated Raman scattering(SRS).They can be used to implement high power inter-channel crosstalk attack by malicious attackers.The mechanism of high power inter-channel crosstalk attack is analyzed.When an attack occurs,attack signal power and fiber nonlinear refractive index are the main factors which affect quality of legitimate signals.The effect of high power inter-channel crosstalk attack on quality of legitimate signals is investigated by building simulation system in VPI software.The results show that interchannel crosstalk caused by high power attack signal leads to quality deterioration of legitimate signals propagated in the same fiber.The higher the power of attack signal is,the greater the fiber nonlinear refractive index is.The closer the channel spacing away from the attack signal is,the more seriously the legitimate signals are affected by attack.We also find that when attack position and power of attack signal are constant,attack signal cannot infinitely spread,while its attack ability shows a fading trend with the extension of propagation distance. 展开更多
