They are constructed by using fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) or short-wavelength-pass filters (SWPFs) as wavelength tunable components inside the laser cavity. Broadband wavelength tuning range including C- and/or S-band was achieved, and tunable laser output with high slope efficiency, high side-mode suppression ratio was obtained. These fiber lasers can find vast applications in lightwave transmission, optical test instrument, fiber-optic gyros, spectroscopy, material processing, biophotonic imaging, and fiber sensor technologies. 展开更多

A tunable self-seeded multi-wavelength Brillouin-erbium fiber laser(BEFL) is proposed and demonstrated based on a few-mode fiber filter(FMFF) with varying temperature. The FMFF configuration is a section of uncoated few-mode fiber(FMF) sandwiched between two up-tapers. As the temperature varies from 25 °C to 125 °C, the transmission spectrum of FMFF moves towards the longer wavelength. The self-excited Brillouin pump is internally achieved by cascaded stimulated Brillouin scattering(SBS) in the single mode fiber(SMF). Then employing the FMFF temperature variation characteristics in the ring cavity fiber laser, the multi-wavelength of the output laser can be tuned, and the tunable range is about 8.0 nm. The generation of up to 15 Brillouin Stokes wavelengths with 16 d B optical signal-to-noise ratio(OSNR) is realized. 展开更多

Surface plasmon resonance induced tunable polarization filters based on nanoscale gold film-coated photonic crystal fibers were proposed and analyzed. The characteristics of the polarization filter were calculated by finite element method (FEM). The gold film was selectively coated on the inner wall of one cladding air hole which was located near the fiber core along the y-axis direction. When the phase of core fundamental mode and surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) mode matches, the two modes couple with each other intensely. Numerical results show that the resonance wavelength and strength vary with fiber structural parameters and the index of the infilling liquid. The fiber parameters were optimized to achieve specific functions. Under the optimal structure, we realized a dual channel filter at the communication wavelength of 1.31 μm and 1.55 μm fory polarization direction and x polarization direction. Then a single channel polarized filter at the communication wavelength of 1.55 μm is also achieved by adjusting the refractive index of the infilling liquid. The proposed polarization filters realized dual channel filtering and single channel filtering simultaneously under the same structure for the first time to the best of our knowledge. 展开更多

By using a loop mirror filter, a novel wavelength-tunable single-frequency ytterbium-doped fiber laser is developed to select single longitudinal modes in a linear cavity. The output wavelength could be tuned 2.4 nm intervals range from 1063.3 to 1065.Tnrn with the temperature change of the fiber Bragg grating. The maximum output power could reach 32 m W while the pump power increases to 120 m W. The corresponding optical-to-optical conversion efficiency is 26.7% and the slope efficiency is 33.9%, respectively. The output power fluctuation is below 2%, and its highest signal-to-noise ratio is 60 dB. 展开更多

A discrimination measurement method and demodulation technique for fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors were presented using digital filtering technique. The system can control a tunable fiber Fabry-Perot filter with sawtooth wave voltage generated by digital clock to interrogate FBG sensors. Using the analogue digital converter (ADC), the reflected FBG signals were sampled with synchronous digital clock. With the aid of digital matched filtering technique, the sampled FBG signals were processed to obtain the maximum signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and the Bragg wavelength shift from the FBG signals was recovered. The results demonstrate that this system has a scanning range of 1 520 nm-1 575 nm,and the wavelength detection accuracy is less than 2 pm with 1.5 Hz scanning frequency. 展开更多

A novel plasmonic polarization filter based on the diamond-shape photonic crystal fiber(PCF) is proposed. The resonant coupling characteristics of the PCF polarization filter are investigated by the full-vector finite-element method. By optimizing the geometric parameters of the PCF, when the fiber length is 5 mm, the polarization filter has a bandwidth of 990 nm and an extinction ratio(ER) of lower than -20 dB. Moreover, a single wavelength polarization filter can also be achieved, along with an ER of -279.78 dB at wavelength 1.55 μm. It is believed that the proposed PCF polarization filter will be very useful in laser and optical communication systems. 展开更多

A novel photonic crystal fiber(PCF) polarization filter is designed and fabricated; it consists of two large apertures coated with gold. The asymmetric structure separates the resonance position in the vertical direction well. Due to the metal layer covering, loss is greatly improved. Finite element method is applied for numerical simulation. The influences of varying gold thickness and varying the diameters and the center positions of the larger apertures on filtering performance are evaluated. Theory of coupling between surface plasma and core mode is introduced. By modulating the parameters, we realize a single polarization filter at 1.31 μm and 1.55 μm. The basal mode loss in the y direction can reach 1408.80 dB/cm at 1.31 μm and 1911.22 dB/cm at 1.55 μm respectively, but basal mode loss in the x direction is relatively small, 0.82 dB/cm and 1.87 dB/cm. In addition, two kinds of broadband polarization filters are proposed. If the fiber length is set to 200 μm,the extinction ratio is greater than 20 dB with width of 570 nm and 490 nm. It can realize demodulation of distributed fiber Bragg grating(FBG) measurement system. Its scanning resolution and scanning period depend on wavelet function. Wavelet function is controlled by computer. Compared to conventional scan filter, optical wavelet filtering has some advantages such as simple structure, high scan frequency, high resolution and good linearity. At last, the error of optical wavelet filter scanning procedure is analyzed. Scanning step length refers to the shifting of optical wavelet window's central frequency. It affects system precision directly. If scanning step length is different, the measured signal is different. The methods of reducing step length guarantee scanning periodic time are presented. 展开更多

The wavelength shift in fiber Bragg grating does not depend directly on the total light levels, losses in the connecting fibers and couplers, or source power. However, if the tunable Fabry-Perot filter is place on the end of incident fiber, the detected time delay of modulation light is occurred due to the unmatch between the scanning time and light transmission time in the transmission fiber. Consequently, the detected peak wavelength shifts with the length of transmission fiber. Thus, the peak wavelength shift effect of Bragg reflective light transmitted in fiber with different fiber length can be obvious in the demodulator with a prepositive tunable Fabry-Perot filter. The experiment indicates the shift rates of 0.109 - 0.126 nm/km increase approximately linearly with the original peak wavelength of 1532.917 - 1560.300 nm at the fiber length of 0 - 6 km. To certify the consistency of measurement data, the criterion correction is introduced. By using the differential method of two fiber Bragg gratings with an optical path, the differential worth is compensated from the disturbance modulated by the time delay of fiber length. 展开更多

By adjusting the variable optical attenuator(VOA), the laser can be switched between the single-wavelength mode and the dual-wavelength mode. When the temperature applied on the tapered fiber structure varies, the pass-band varies and the wavelength of the output laser shifts correspondingly. When the temperature changes from 30 °C to 180 °C, the central wavelength of the EDFL generated by branch A shifts from 1 550.7 nm to 1 560.3 nm, while that of branch B shifts from 1 530.8 nm to 1 540.4 nm, indicating the wavelength interval is tunable. These advantages enable this laser to be a potential candidate for high-capacity wavelength division multiplexing systems and mechanical sensors. 展开更多

闭式循环过程会产生大量放射性气溶胶,其高湿、高酸、高放射性的特点导致基于玻璃纤维滤材的高效过滤器失效快、更换频率高。为解决上述问题,提出对传统的玻璃纤维滤材进行疏水性改性,以提高玻璃纤维滤材对苛刻工况的耐受性。利用低表... 闭式循环过程会产生大量放射性气溶胶,其高湿、高酸、高放射性的特点导致基于玻璃纤维滤材的高效过滤器失效快、更换频率高。为解决上述问题,提出对传统的玻璃纤维滤材进行疏水性改性,以提高玻璃纤维滤材对苛刻工况的耐受性。利用低表面能改性剂(聚二甲基硅氧烷)对滤材进行化学性疏水性改性,通过引用SiO_(2)纳米颗粒物进行微结构构造,进一步改善疏水效果。借助SEM、FTIR、接触角测量仪等手段对改性效果进行了分析,并进一步研究了改性滤材的过滤性能。研究结果表明:改性方案能够有效改善玻璃纤维滤材的疏水性,并提高其耐湿性;单纯化学改性滤材的静态接触角可达146°,引入SiO_(2)纳米颗粒物后改性滤材的接触角超过150°;当改性剂中聚二甲基硅氧烷质量分数为2.0%、SiO_(2)纳米颗粒物质量分数为0.5%时,所得GF-PS-0.5滤材展现出最优的耐酸性,主要源于化学性疏水和结构性疏水的有效协同;GF-PS-0.5在经受足量的γ照射后,疏水性保持稳定,表明其良好的耐辐照性;改性滤材仍然保持了优异的过滤性能,其过滤效率超过99.99%。改性过程在提高滤材耐受性的同时,没有影响其过滤性能,展现出良好的应用前景。 展开更多

针对光纤光栅解调系统中现有滤波算法计算速度与滤波效果难以兼顾的问题,提出了一种基于滑动相关滤波的光纤布拉格光栅(Fiber Bragg Grating,FBG)反射谱滤波方法并在现场可编程门阵列(Field Programmable Gate Array,FPGA)上实现算法加... 针对光纤光栅解调系统中现有滤波算法计算速度与滤波效果难以兼顾的问题,提出了一种基于滑动相关滤波的光纤布拉格光栅(Fiber Bragg Grating,FBG)反射谱滤波方法并在现场可编程门阵列(Field Programmable Gate Array,FPGA)上实现算法加速设计。该算法根据FBG半峰全宽确定高斯函数二阶导数的标准差,用函数的负数作为滤波模板权重,通过滑动数据窗口进行反射谱数据与滤波模板的相关计算,从而实现滤波操作。使用该算法处理含高斯噪声、坏点和基线的仿真数据,验证了该方法对多种异常反射谱数据处理的有效性,并与其他下位机滤波算法进行对比分析,该算法能较好地保留原始数据特征,有较好的鲁棒性,信噪比最高提升28.23dB,中心波长平均偏差和偏差标准差最小,分别为1.712 pm和2.996pm。同时在FPGA片上平台实现了该算法,采用循环队列策略设计存储器,提高了存储器使用率,降低了资源消耗。实验表明,该算法可以有效校正多种异常FBG反射谱,在100MHz系统时钟下处理一个反射谱数据所需时间仅5.09μs,易于实现工程化应用,克服了下位机现有滤波算法对FBG反射谱中坏点、基线抑制作用较差和滤波后信号变形的问题,实现了FBG反射谱滑动相关滤波算法的加速设计。 展开更多
