Unifying Convolution and Transformer Decoder for Textile Fiber Identification

At present,convolutional neural networks(CNNs)and transformers surpass humans in many situations(such as face recognition and object classification),but do not work well in identifying fibers in textile surface images.Hence,this paper proposes an architecture named FiberCT which takes advantages of the feature extraction capability of CNNs and the long-range modeling capability of transformer decoders to adaptively extract multiple types of fiber features.Firstly,the convolution module extracts fiber features from the input textile surface images.Secondly,these features are sent into the transformer decoder module where label embeddings are compared with the features of each type of fibers through multi-head cross-attention and the desired features are pooled adaptively.Finally,an asymmetric loss further purifies the extracted fiber representations.Experiments show that FiberCT can more effectively extract the representations of various types of fibers and improve fiber identification accuracy than state-of-the-art multi-label classification approaches. 展开更多

Nettle plants widely exist in China, but up to now there is no research regarding Chinese nettle fiber properties, especially about its spinnability. This paper has studied the properties of Chinese nettle fiber and its spinnability. The research results show that the average length of nettle fiber is about 34 mm, the nettle fiber fineness ranging from 0.589 to 0.769 tex. Nettle fiber has high breaking strength, low breaking extension and high initial modulus. Both the biochemical method and chemical method can meet the requirement of nettle degumming, with the residual being less than 4%. Nettle fiber can be utilised as textile material and can be spun in rotor-spinning machines after well degummed. 展开更多

As the development of smart electronics, self-powered sources have been attracting increasing attention.This review summarizes research progress of photovoltaic fibers and their integrated power sources with multi-stage energy conversion. Recent development of three dimensional photovoltaic fibers is glanced with special attention to structure design and materials of typical photovoltaic types(inorganic, organic,dye/quantum dot sensitized and perovskite solar cells). The application of carbon materials in fiber energy is focused as it is a hot topic recently. The hybrid energy systems based on fiber solar cells and fiber supercapacitors, fiber batteries and fiber nanogenerators are summarized together with hybrid energy textiles. This review provides a macroscopic view of novel energy fibers and will attract research interest in flexible/wearable fiber electronics and energy textiles. 展开更多

Two-dimensional(2D)MXenes have emerged as an archetypical layered material combining the properties of an organic-inorganic hybrid offering materials sustainability for a range of applications.Their surface functional groups and the associated chemical properties'tailorability through functionalizing MXenes with other materials as well as hydrophilicity and high conductivity enable them to be the best successor for various applications in textile industries,especially in the advancement of smart textiles and remediation of textile wastewater.MXene-based textile composite performs superb smartness in high-performance wearables as well as in the reduction of textile dyes from wastewater.This article critically reviews the significance of MXenes in two sectors of the textile industry.Firstly,we review the improvement of textile raw materials such as fiber,yarn,and fabric by using MXene as electrodes in supercapacitors,pressure sensors.Secondly,we review advancements in the removal of dyes from textile wastewater utilizing MXene as an absorbent by the adsorption process.MXene-based textiles demonstrated superior strength through the strong bonding between MXene and textile structures as well as the treatment of adsorbate by adsorbent(MXene in the adsorption process).We identify critical gaps for further research to enable their real-life applications. 展开更多

Carbon/glass fiber hybrid textile reinforced concrete is a relatively new composite material with good mechanical capacity and excellent electrical conductivity.Both small-scale slab heating experiments and numerical simulation are presented in this paper.Temperature variation curves obtained during heating indicate the effects of environmental temperature,heat-conducting layer thickness and electric heating power.Comparison of temperature rising between the situations with and without thermal isolation layer is given as well.The results indicate that the textile can form a good conductive heating network and generate enough heat to raise the temperature in the concrete when connected to a power supply,while the resistance of the slab remains stable during the heating.Numerical results are in good accordance with the experiments.Real time snow-melting experiment was conducted to verify the feasibility of deicing.The electrothermal properties of textile can be utilized for deicing and snow melting in a safe,environmentally friendly and efficient way. 展开更多

We demonstrate a new fiber-based radio frequency (RF) dissemination scheme suitable for a star-shaped branching network. Without any phase controls on the RF signals or the use of active feedback-locking components, the highly stable reference frequency signal can be delivered to several remote sites simultaneously and independently. The relative frequency stabilities of 6 ×10^-15/s and 7×10^-17/10^4 s are obtained for a 10 km dissemination. This low cost and scalable method can be applied to a large-scale frequency synchroniza- tion network. 展开更多
