A Case Study on the Effectiveness of Pre-Class Activities in Higher Vocational English Classes: Taking Pingliang Vocational and Technical College as an Example

Based on Bloom’s“effective teaching theory,”this paper proposes pre-class activities to improve students’enthusiasm and autonomy in English learning.These include sentence construction,situational dubbing,famous quotes,English songs,English games,Chinese stories,regional cultures,and theme debates,which combine life,interest,and inspiration as the main characteristics.The activities can enhance the sense of participation and achievement of all students to achieve the purpose of effective teaching.

The Application of ARCS Motivation Model in Online College English Class

Since the epidemic,online classes have been a common practice,and learning motivation plays a key role in the efficiency of the online English,which should not be underestimated in improving online foreign language teaching.This paper discusses how to effectively apply ARCS motivation model in online English teaching design with examples of college English textbooks,so as to motivate students and improve students’online classroom efficiency by improving their learning motivation.

The Application of “Yunban Class” for College English Based on Blended Teaching Mode

The blended teaching mode has the advantages of combining traditional teaching methods with online teaching.It can not only play the leading role of teachers in guiding,inspiring,and monitoring the teaching process,but also fully reflect the initiative,enthusiasm,and creativity of students as the main body of the learning process.This paper mainly explores“Yunban Class”for College English based on blended teaching mode.This learning mode is characterized by problem-oriented and task-driven pattern and requires teachers to assign online learning tasks and offline learning tasks to students at different stages.Meanwhile,classroom performance takes a large portion in evaluating students’learning by combining formative assessment and summative assessment in order to motivate students to learn and make them get more involved in class activities so that independent learning could be gradually achieved.

Humanistic Education in College English Classes:Problems and Solutions

The humanistic quality is one of the most important qualities for students to acquire in humanistic education.However,the limited class time for tightly scheduled teaching tasks fails to guarantee a satisfying result for humanistic education.In this paper,three strategies are proposed as the way out of this dilemma.The first,is to equip the College English teachers with rich professional and humanistic knowledge.The second is to change the traditional College English Teaching aim which is not suitable as a guide for current teaching.And the last is to require all the English teachers to explore and clarify the humanistic connotation in the texts which helps shape students’view of the world and value of the life.

Teaching college English to a large class： Problems and remedies

Large classes usually present special challenges in terms of language teaching and learning. This paper reports on a study which dealt with teaching English to a large group of non-English majors in a traditional context at Xinjiang Normal University, China. An eclectic teaching mode was designed and a questionnaire was conducted together with three tests. The results show that the disadvantages of a large class can be minimized to some degree.

An Empirical Study on the 1 ＋ 1 Model in College English Listening and Speaking Class

Improving college students＇ listening and speaking ability is a very important part of college English teaching Based on the foreign and domestic studies on how to improve students＇ listening and speaking ability, this paper explores the 1 ＋ 1 model in listening and speaking class, which is to divide the listening and speaking class into two parts--small speaking class combined with students＇ online autonomous learning. Through one-year experiment and study on two classes, although there is no significant difference between the performances of these classes, this study has shed some light on how to vary the teaching methods, how to improve the class efficiency, students＇ autonomy in leaming, and how to build new assessment system. Further studies could be made later based on this

Utilizing Wen Juanxing in College English Classes in China

This paper aims to explore the benefits of Technology-Enhanced Learning(TEL)to better engage undergraduate students in college English classes in China.By experimenting with Wen Juanxing,an online questionnaire platform,it has been found that through the employment of“Classroom Response Systems”(hereafter CRS)such as Wen Juanxing(hereaftter WJX),college students’classroom participation and interaction can be significantly increased.Their learning outcome and efficiency can also be greatly improved.

A Study on Time Management of College English Class

Teaching is a complicated system, involving the knowledge, ability, skills, quahty and other aspects, eacla ot wmcn presents a multidimensional structure. During the limited teaching time, it can＇t guarantee to finish and cover so many teaching contents and tasks without careful time management. Even if there is enough time, it can＇t result in high teaching efficiency naturally. The phenomenon of time-consuming but inefficiency often appears. How to optimize time management to improve teaching efficiency is worthy of our constant research. Take college English class as an example, this paper attempts to construct a general and high-efficiency time management mode of college English class based on some second language acquisition theories, combined with some teaching practice, improve the effect of the current college English teaching, and as a reference for other subjects.

Effects of Smartphone on College Students in English Speaking Class

Smartphones have become increasingly popular during the past recent years. Although these gadgets are useful and convenient, a majority of students(whether they are higher learning students or low level students) are becoming more and more dependent on them. The aim of this study is to find out the reason why college students are addicted to cell phone and the impact of mobile phone abuse on their academic performance as well as propose feasible solutions for teachers to motivate learners to take an active participation in English speaking class by adopting advanced mobile phone technologies to improve learning efficiency.
