Mechanical properties of galvannealed (GA) steel sheet used for automotive exposed panel and predicted failure phenomenon of its coating layer were evaluated using finite element method. V-bending test was performed to understand better the fracture of coating layer of GA steel sheet during plastic deformation. Yield strength of the coating layer was calculated by using a relative difference between hardness of coating layer measured from the nano-indentation test and that of substrate. To measure shearing strength at the interface between substrate and coating layer, shearing test with two specimens attached by an adhesive was carried out. Using the mechanical properties measured, a series of finite element analyses coupled with a failure model was performed. Results reveal that the fracture of coating layer occurs in an irregular manner at the region where compressive deformation is dominant. Meanwhile, a series of vertical cracks perpendicular to material surface are observed at the tensile stressed-region. It is found that 0.26-0.28 of local equivalent plastic strain exists at the coating and substrate at the beginning of failure. The fracture of coating layer depends on ductility of the coating layer considerably as well. 展开更多

Asynchronous machines are predominantly preferred in industrial sectors for its reliability.Power quality perturbations have a greater impact on industries;among the different power quality events, voltage fluctuations are the most common and that may cause adverse effect on machine’s operation since they are longer enduring. The article discusses a numerical technique for evaluating asynchronous motors while taking into account magnetic saturation, losses, leakage flux, and voltage drop.A 2D linear analysis involving a multi-slice time stepping finite element model is used to predict the end effects. As an outcome, the magnetic saturation and losses are estimated using amodified 2D nonlinear time-stepping finite element formulation. The method takes the electromagnetic fields at the ends of the motor into account using limited computer resources. The proposed method will greatly reduce computation timewith limited computer resources for analyzing themachine’s performance with high precision. The analyzed findings assist in preventing voltage variance issues in the power network system and provide suggestions for developing a robust system. 展开更多

For the safety protection of passengers when train crashes occur, special structures are crucially needed as a kind of indispensable energy absorbing device. With the help of the structures, crash kinetic-energy can be completely absorbed or dissipated for the aim of safety. Two composite structures(circumscribed circle structure and inscribed circle structure) were constructed. In addition, comparison and optimization of the crashworthy characteristic of the two structures were carried out based on the method of explicit finite element analysis(FEA) and Kriging surrogate model. According to the result of Kriging surrogate model, conclusions can be safely drawn that the specific energy absorption(SEA) and ratio of specific energy absorption to initial peak force(REAF) of circumscribed circle structure are lager than those of inscribed circle structure under the same design parameters. In other words, circumscribed circle structure has better performances with higher energy-absorbing ability and lower initial peak force. Besides, error analysis was adopted and the result of which indicates that the Kriging surrogate model has high nonlinear fitting precision. What is more, the SEA and REAF optimum values of the two structures have been obtained through analysis, and the crushing results have been illustrated when the two structures reach optimum SEA and REAF. 展开更多

Based on a modified pseudo-rigid-body model, the frequency characteristics and sensitivity of the large-deformation compliant mechanism are studied.Firstly, the pseudo-rigid-body model under the static and kinetic conditions is modified to enable the modified pseudo-rigid-body model to be more suitable for the dynamic analysis of the compliant mechanism.Subsequently, based on the modified pseudo-rigid-body model, the dynamic equations of the ordinary compliant four-bar mechanism are established using the analytical mechanics. Finally,in combination with the finite element analysis software ANSYS,the frequency characteristics and sensitivity of the compliant mechanism are analyzed by taking the compliant parallel-guiding mechanism and the compliant bistable mechanism as examples. From the simulation results, the dynamic characteristics of compliant mechanism are relatively sensitive to the structure size, section parameter, and characteristic parameter of material on mechanisms. The results could provide great theoretical significance and application values for the structural optimization of compliant mechanisms, the improvement of their dynamic properties and the expansion of their application range. 展开更多

A systematic study has been conducted aiming to attain an insight into the influence of coefficient of roll speed asymmetry, crystal orientation and structure on the deformation behavior, and crystallographic orientation development during foil rolling. Simulations were successfully carried out by using crystal plasticity finite element method(CPFEM),and a novel computational framework is presented for the representation of virtual polycrystalline grain structures. It has been found that asymmetric rolling(ASR) is more efficient in producing plastic deformation since it develops additional shear strain and activity of slip system compared with symmetric rolling(SR). For ASR, increase in the length of the shear zone, and decrease in the amount of the pressure and roll force would lead to further reduction. The shear strain path in SR and ASR is strictly influenced by the misorientation of neighbor grains, and corresponding {1 1 1} pole figures offer direct evidence of the spread of crystallographic orientation around the normal direction. The activity of slip systems was examined in detail and found that the predicted results are consistent with the surface layer model. The accuracy of the developed CPFEM model is verified by the fact that the simulated results of roll force coincide well with the experimental results. 展开更多
