Analysis is carried out u...The present investigation studies the peristaltic flow of the Jeffrey fluid through a tube of finite length. The fluid is electrically conducting in the presence of an applied magnetic field. Analysis is carried out under the assumption of long wavelength and low Reynolds number approximations. Expressions of the pressure gradient, volume flow rate, average volume flow rate, and local wall shear stress are obtained. The effects of relaxation time, retardation time, Hartman number on pressure, local wall shear stress, and mechanical efficiency of peristaltic pump are studied. The reflux phenomenon is also investigated. The case of propagation of a non-integral number of waves along the tube walls, which are inherent characteristics of finite length vessels, is also examined.展开更多

A novel class of robust state-space realizations, called normal realizations, is derived and characteriz...This article deals with two important issues in digital filter implementation: roundoff noise and limit cycles. A novel class of robust state-space realizations, called normal realizations, is derived and characterized. It is seen that these realizations are free of limit cycles. Another interesting property of the normal realizations is that they yield a minimal error propagation gain. The optimal realization problem, defined as to find those normal realizations that minimize roundoff noise gain, is formulated and solved analytically. A design example is presented to demonstrate the behavior of the optimal normal realizations and to compare them with several well-known digital filter realizations in terms of minimizing the roundoff noise and the error propagation.展开更多

The controller coefficient perturbation was analyzed resultingfrom using finite word length (FWL) block-floating-point representation scheme. A block-floating-point FWL closed-loop stability measure was derived which considers both the dynamic range and precision. To facilitate the design of optimal finite-precision controller realizations, a computationally tractable block-floating-point FWL closed-loop stability measure was then introduced and the method of computing the value of this measure for a given controller realization was developed. The optimal controller realization is defined as the solution that maximizes the corresponding measure, and a numerical optimization approach was adopted to solve the resulting optimal realization problem. Currently, mo...The instability of the rotor dynamic system supported by oil journal bearing is encountered frequently, such as the half speed whirl of the rotor, which is caused by oil film lubricant with nonlinearity. Currently, more attention is paid to the physical characteristics of oil film due to an oil-lubricated journal bearing being the important supporting component of the bearing-rotor systems and its nonlinear nature. In order to analyze the lubrication characteristics of journal bearings efficiently and save computational c[~brts, an approximate solution of nonlinear oil film forces of a finite length turbulent journal bearing with couple stress flow is proposed based on Sommerfeld and Ocvirk numbers. Reynolds equation in lubrication of a finite length turbulent .journal bearing is solved based on multi-parametric principle. Load-carrying capacity of nonlinear oil film is obtained, and the results obtained by different methods are compared. The validation of the proposed method is verified, meanwhile, the relationships of load-carrying capacity versus eccentricity ratio and width-to-diameter ratio under turbulent and couple stress working conditions are analyzed. The numerical results show that both couple stress flow and eccentricity ratio have obvious influence on oil film pressure distribution, and the proposed method approximates the load-carrying capacity of turbulent journal bearings efficiently with various width-to-diameter ratios. This research proposes an approximate solution of oil film load-carrying capacity of turbulent journal bearings with different width-to-diameter ratios, whicb are suitable for high eccentricity ratios and heavy loads.展开更多

Howeve...The mechanism of transport of chemicals in soil is an important research topic of environmental science and engineering, and some models and methods for a variety of solute transport problems have been done. However. most of previous works are usually for a soil column of infinite dimension. Starting from the one-dimension transient solute transport equation and its boundary and initial condition for a solute transport problem of soil column of finite length, this work has successfully applied a variable transformation to simplify the partial differential equation of solute transport problem. And an analytical serial solution for the simplified equation is then established by the so-called separated variable method and the superposition method. Compared with numerical methods such as finite different method and finite element method, this analytical solution is more accurate and of higher computation efficiency. In addition, the solution procedure presented could be extended for applications such as quality analysis, design of physical experimentation, or parameter estimation and measurement of solute transport problems.展开更多

Firstly, QPSO is introduced elaborately, and the basic flow of QPSO is also given. Then, the demodulation principle of digital impacting filter in the communication system of CP-EBPSK with random-polar is demonstrated, and QPSO is utilized to design the digital impacting filter, which also takes the effect of finite word length into consideration when implemented by hardware. Based on the idea of Kolmogorov-Chaitin complexity, practical measures of complexity are developed for statespace realizations, parallel and cascade realizations, and for a newly proposed generalized implicit state-space realization. The complexity of solutions to a restricted complexity controller benchmark problem is investigated using this measure. The results show that from a Kolmogorov-Chaitin viewpoint, higher-order controllers with a shorter word-length may have lower complexity and better performance, than lower-order controllers with longer word-length.展开更多

Based on boundary integral equation method, an analytical model for solving a finite length semi infinite body is established. The lateral surface displacement field of the finite length semi-infinite body is simulated by finite element method (FEM) and lateral surface displacement decay functions are established. Based on the boundary integral equation method, the numerical solution of the finite length semi-infinite body under the distribu ted force is obtained and an accurate roll flattening model is established. Different from the traditional semi-infinite body model, the matrix form of the new roll flattening model is established through the mathematical derivation.
