The bi-directional reflection distribution function (BRDF) for both TM mode and TE mode were obtained and compared with the highly accurate experimental data from the earlier work. The incident wavelength varies from 1.152 μm to 3.392 μm and incident angle is at 300-70°, respectively. The results show that, the predicted values and experimental results are in good agreement. The highly specular peak in the BRDF is reproduced in the numerical simulations, and the increase of the TM mode BRDF is found to be attributed to the effect of a variation in the optical constant at the incident wavelength period.展开更多

Modulation of an incident laser by surface micro-defects will induce the growth of surface damage, which largely restricts the enhancement of the laser induced damage threshold. The modulation of an incident laser by using different kinds of surface defects are simulated by employing the three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain method. The results indicate that after the modulation of surface defects, the light intensity distribution inside the crystal is badly distorted, with the light intensity enhanced symmetrically. The relations between modulation properties and defect geometries (e.g., width, morphology, and depth of defects) are quite different for different defects. The modulation action is most obvious when the width of surface defects reaches 1.064 p-m. For defects with smooth morphology, such as spherical pits, the degree of modulation is the smallest and the light intensity distribution seems relatively uniform. The degree of modulation increases rapidly with the increase of the depth of surface defects and becomes stable when the depth reaches a critical value. The critical depth is 1.064 μm for cuboid pits and radial cracks, while for ellipsoidal pits the value depends on both the width and the length of the defects.展开更多

By splitting the fields on one-dimensional grid and using the nature of numerical plane-wave in finite-difference time-domain (FDTD), the identical dispersion relation can be obtained and proved between the one-dimensional and three-dimensional grids. An efficient plane-wave source is simulated on one-dimensional grid and a perfect match can be achieved for a plane-wave propagating at any angle forming an integer grid cell ratio. Numerical simulations show that the method is valid for SFDTD and the residual field in SF region is shrinked down to -300 dB.展开更多

We report here the synthesis of interesting ladder-like metal oxide NWs, including In2O3, SnO2, ZnO, and Ga2O3, via a facile chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method. Their structural features and growth mechanism are demonstrated in detail by using the ladder-like In2O3 NWs as an example. Single ladder-like NW-based field-effect transistors (FETs) and photodetectors (PDs) of SnO2 were fabricated in order to investigate their electrical transport and light absorption properties. Compared with straight NW-based FETs which operate in an enhancement mode (E-mode), FETs build on ladder-like NWs operate in a depletion mode (D-mode). The ladder-like NWs also give higher carrier concentrations than conventional single nanowires. Finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations have been performed on the ladder-like NWs and the results reveal a great enhancement of light absorption with both transverse-electric (TE) and transverse-magnetic (TM) polarization modes, which is in good agreement with the experimental results.展开更多

This phenomenon provided the basis of a sensitive liquid refractive index sensor. The proposed sensor is compact and has the potential to be used in biomedical applications, having a sensitivity of (373 ± 16)nm per refractive index unit (RIU) as found through the variation of a reflection minimum with the wavelength.展开更多
