To reduce production costs and make full and reasonable use of raw materials, high alumina bricks were prepared using tabular corundum and mullite as aggregates, sillimanite as intermediate particles, and white fused corundum powder,α-alumina micropowder, and Suzhou soil as the matrix, firing at different temperatures(1420,1440,1460,1480,1500 and 1520℃)for 4 h.The apparent porosity(AP),the bulk density(BD),the cold crushing strength(CCS),the thermal shock resistance(TSR),the refractoriness under load(RUL)and the creep rate of the samples were tested. The effects of the firing temperature on the creep rate(1450℃×50 h,under a load of 0.2 MPa)of the samples were studied. The results show that with the sillimanite addition of 22.5 mass%,the sample fired at 1460℃for 4 h performs the best comprehensive properties:the AP of 17.5%,the BD of 2.75 g·cm^(-3),the CCS of 100.5 MPa,the TSR number of 35 cycles, the RUL of 1682℃,and the creep rate of-0.428%,which can prolong the service life of furnaces. 展开更多

YBaCuO(YBCO) films with co-doping of Ba Ti O(BTO) and YOnanostructures were successfully fabricated on La Al O(LAO) substrate by metal organic deposition using trifluoroacetates(TFA-MOD). The focus of this study was to optimize the process conditions during the firing heat treatment of high critical current density(J C)-co-doped YBCO films. The effect of the firing temperatures on both the surface morphology and the superconducting properties for the doped YBCO films was systematically studied. According to the X-ray diffraction(XRD) and scanning electron microscopy(SEM) results, the films prepared at 820 and 850 °C show poor electrical performance due to impurity phases and large pores. In contrast, the dense YBCO films prepared at 830 and840 °C with the critical current densities of 10 MA-cm(77 K, 0 T) are obtained. 展开更多

This study deals with the physico-chemical, mineralogical and geotechnical characterization of alluvial clays from Batchenga in Cameroon with a view to their use as building materials for housing. The alluvial clay (Arg.All) was collected in the locality of Batchenga at the village Natchigal (4˚20'40''N and 11˚37'40''E at 378 m altitude) and was fired between 900˚C and 1100˚C. Characterization was performed by XRD, XRF, DTA/DTG, and firing tests. XRD, XRF, DTA/DTG infrared analysis methods were performed on these clays. The linear shrinkage, mechanical strengths, water absorption, porosity and density were measured on the fired products. The results obtained show that the major oxides are for the Arg.Lat SiO2 (72.13%), Al2O3 (14.1%), Fe2O3 (4.45%) and for the Arg.All: SiO2 (48.91%), Al2O3 (23.79%), Fe2O3 (9.54%). The fired products based on alluvial clay, present the flexural strength of 4.45 MPa at 900˚C and 6.80 MPa at 1100˚C. As for those based on lateritic clay, the flexural strength is 0.53 and 0.76 MPa respectively at 900 and 1100˚C. The porosity is 33.69% at 900˚C and 22.93% at 1100˚C for the alluvial clay and 39.55% at 900˚C and 36.01% for the lateritic clay at 1100˚C. Water absorption is 18% to 11.16% for alluvial clay and 22.43% to 21.16% for lateritic clay at 900˚C and 1100˚C respectively. These results suggest that alluvial clay and its firing products have better physico-chemical, geotechnical and mechanical characteristics regardless of the firing temperature of the manufactured products. The addition of degreaser is recommended to improve the mechanical performance of lateritic clay. 展开更多

An evaluation of the effects of additives and firing temperatures on clay bricks characteristics was studied. The two(2)additives used were sawdust ash(SDA)and iron ore tailing wastes(IOTW),and the five(5)firing temperatures of 400o C to 1200o C at intervals of 200o C were applied. The fired bricks were tested for linear shrinkage, water absorption, density, and compressive strength. The results of the investigations showed that firing temperature improved the clay brick characteristics across all replacement levels. However, the SDA additions increased the linear shrinkage and the water absorption but decreased the density and compressive strength. On the other hand, the addition of IOTW to the clay-SDA mixture, reduced both the linear shrinkage and water absorption of the clay bricks, and increased the density and compressive strength. The statistical values and the regression models derived on the experimental data using Minitab 18 Software were significant. 展开更多
