A numerical study of linear wave scattering over a floating platform has been simulated by an efficient numericalmodel in this letter. The non-hydrostatic model is used to simulate the free surface and the uneven bottom. For thesolid body modelling, the immersed boundary method(IBM)is implemented by introducing a virtual boundaryforce into the momentum equations to emulate the boundary conditions. This implementation enhances theability of the model to simulate interactions between waves and floating structures.A numerical case involvingwave interactions with a floating platform is studied to validate the numerical model.By simulating the wavepropagation, the numerical model captures the variation of the wave scattering very well, which verifies theperformance of the numerical model and the robust strategy of the IBM. 展开更多

A novel Schottky body-contacted structure for partially depleted SOI nMOSFET's is presented. This structure can be realized by forming a shallow n +-p junction and two sidewall spacers in the source region, and then growing a thick silicide film, which can punch through the shallow junction and make a Schottky contact to the p-type silicon.Simulation results show that the anomalous subthreshold slope and kink effects are suppressed successfully and the drain breakdown voltage is improved considerably. This method has the same device area and is completely compatible with the bulk MOSFET process. 展开更多

The exploration for renewable and clean energies has become crucial due to environmental issues such as global warming and the energy crisis. In recent years, floating offshore wind turbines(FOWTs) have attracted a considerable amount of attention as a means to exploit steady and strong wind sources available in deep-sea areas. In this study, the coupled aero-hydrodynamic characteristics of a spar-type 5-MW wind turbine are analyzed. An unsteady actuator line model(UALM) coupled with a twophase computational fluid dynamics solver naoe-FOAM-SJTU is applied to solve three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged NavierStokes equations. Simulations with different complexities are performed. First, the wind turbine is parked. Second, the impact of the wind turbine is simplified into equivalent forces and moments. Third, fully coupled dynamic analysis with wind and wave excitation is conducted by utilizing the UALM. From the simulation, aerodynamic forces, including the unsteady aerodynamic power and thrust, can be obtained, and hydrodynamic responses such as the six-degrees-of-freedom motions of the floating platform and the mooring tensions are also available. The coupled responses of the FOWT for cases of different complexities are analyzed based on the simulation results. Findings indicate that the coupling effects between the aerodynamics of the wind turbine and the hydrodynamics of the floating platform are obvious. The aerodynamic loads have a significant effect on the dynamic responses of the floating platform, and the aerodynamic performance of the wind turbine has highly unsteady characteristics due to the motions of the floating platform. A spar-type FOWT consisting of NREL-5-MW baseline wind turbine and OC3-Hywind platform system is investigated. The aerodynamic forces can be obtained by the UALM. The 6 DoF motions and mooring tensions are predicted by the naoe-FOAM-SJTU. To research the coupling effects between the aerodynamics of the wind turbine and the hydrodynamics of the floating platform, simulations with different complexities are performed. Fully coupled aero-hydrodynamic characteristics of FOWTs, including aerodynamic loads, wake vortex, motion responses, and mooring tensions, are compared and analyzed. 展开更多

This paper presents a coupled dynamic response analysis of a multi-column tension-leg-type floating wind turbine(Wind Star TLP system) under normal operation and parked conditions. Wind-only load cases, wave-only load cases and combined wind and wave load cases were analyzed separately for the Wind Star TLP system to identify the dominant excitation loads. Comparisons between an NREL offshore 5-MW baseline wind turbine installed on land and the Wind Star TLP system were performed. Statistics of selected response variables in specified design load cases(DLCs) were obtained and analyzed. It is found that the proposed Wind Star TLP system has small dynamic responses to environmental loads and it thus has almost the same mean generator power output under operating conditions as the land-based system. The tension mooring system has a sufficient safety factor, and the minimum tendon tension is always positive in all selected DLCs. The ratio of ultimate load of the tower base fore-aft bending moment for the Wind Star TLP system versus the land-based system can be as high as 1.9 in all of the DLCs considered. These results will help elucidate the dynamic characteristics of the proposed Wind Star TLP system, identify the difference in load effect between it and land-based systems, and thus make relevant modifications to the initial design for the Wind Star TLP system. 展开更多

Tower, Spar platform and mooring system are designed in the project based on a given 6-MW wind turbine. Under wind-induced only, wave-induced only and combined wind and wave induced loads, dynamic response is analyzed for a 6-MW Spar-type floating offshore wind turbine (FOWT) under operating conditions and parked conditions respectively. Comparison with a platform-fixed system (land-based system) ofa 6-MW wind turbine is carried out as well. Results demonstrate that the maximal out-of-plane deflection of the blade of a Spar-type system is 3.1% larger than that of a land-based system; the maximum response value of the nacelle acceleration is 215% larger for all the designed load cases being considered; the ultimate tower base fore-aft bending moment of the Spar-type system is 92% larger than that of the land-based system in all of the Design Load Cases (DLCs) being considered; the fluctuations of the mooring tension is mainly wave-induced, and the safety factor of the mooring tension is adequate for the 6-MW FOWT. The results can provide relevant modifications to the initial design for the Spar-type system, the detailed design and model basin test of the 6-MW Spar-type system. 展开更多

In this study, the frequency characteristics of the turbulent wind and the effects of wind-wave coupling on the low-and high-frequency responses of semi-submersible floating offshore wind turbines(FOWT)are investigated.Various wave load components, such as first-order wave loads, combined first-and second-order difference-frequency wave loads, combined first-and second-order sum-frequency wave loads, and first-and complete second-order wave loads are taken into consideration, while different turbulent environments are considered in aerodynamic loads. The com-parison is based on time histories and frequency spectra of platform motions and structural load responses and statistical values. The findings indicate that the second-order difference-frequency wave loads will significantly increase the natural frequency of low-frequency motion in the responses of the platform motion and structure load of the semi-submersible platform, which will cause structural fatigue damage.Under the action of turbulent wind, the influences of second-order wave loads on the platform motion and structural load response cannot be ignored, especially under extreme sea conditions. Therefore,in order to evaluate the dynamic responses of semi-submersible FOWT more accurately, the actual environment should be simulated more realistically. 展开更多

Containment booms are commonly used in collecting and containing spilled oil on the sea surface and in protecting specific sea areas against oil slick spreading. In the present study,a numerical model is proposed based on the N-S equations in a mesh frame. The proposed model tracks the outline of the floating boom in motion by using the fractional area/volume obstacle representation technique. The boom motion is then simulated by the technique of general moving object. The simulated results of the rigid oil boom motions are validated against the experimental results. Then, the failure mechanism of the boom is investigated through numerical experiments.Based on the numerical results, the effects of boom parameters and dynamic factors on the oil containment performance are also assessed. 展开更多

In order to account for rigid-flexible coupling effects of floating offshore wind turbines, a nonlinear rigid-flexible coupled dynamic model is proposed in this paper. The proposed nonlinear coupled model takes the higher-order axial displacements into account, which are usually neglected in the conventional linear dynamic model. Subsequently, investigations on the dynamic differences between the proposed nonlinear dynamic model and the linear one are conducted. The results demonstrate that the stiffness of the turbine blades in the proposed nonlinear dynamic model increases with larger overall motions but that in the linear dynamic model declines with larger overall motions.Deformation of the blades in the nonlinear dynamic model is more reasonable than that in the linear model as well.Additionally, more distinct coupling effects are observed in the proposed nonlinear model than those in the linear model. Finally, it shows that the aerodynamic loads, the structural loads and global dynamic responses of floating offshore wind turbines using the nonlinear dynamic model are slightly smaller than those using the linear dynamic model. In summary, compared with the conventional linear dynamic model, the proposed nonlinear coupling dynamic model is a higher-order dynamic model in consideration of the rigid-flexible coupling effects of floating offshore wind turbines, and accord more perfectly with the engineering facts. 展开更多

It is usually asymptomatic but in case of transvenous lead positioning, i.e., for pacemaker or implantable cardioverter defibrillator(ICD), may be a cause for significant complications or unsuccessful implantation. Single lead ICD with atrial sensing dipole(ICD DX) is a safe and functional technology in patients without congenital abnormalities. The dynamic responses of a floating vertical axis wind turbine(VAWT)are assessed on the basis of an aero-hydro-mooring coupled model. The aerodynamic loads on the rotor are acquired with double-multiple stream tube method.First-and second-order wave loads are calculated on the basis of 3D potential theory. The mooring loads are simulated by catenary theory. The coupled model is established, and a numerical code is programmed to investigate the dynamic response of the semi-submersible VAWT.A model test is then conducted, and the numerical code is validated considering the hydrodynamic performance of the floating buoy. The responses of the floating VAWT are studied through the numerical simulation under the sea states of wind and regular/irregular waves. The effects of the second-order wave force on the motions are also investigated. Results show that the slow-drift responses in surge and pitch motions are significantly excited by the second-order wave forces.Furthermore, the effect of foundation motion on aerodynamic loads is examined. The normal and tangential forces of the blades demonstrate a slight increase due to the coupling effect between the buoy motion and the aerodynamic loads. 展开更多

Cost-effective floating wind turbines with efficient installations are highly desired in deep waters(>50 m).This paper presents a submerged floating offshore wind turbines(SFOWT)concept for intermediate water depths(50-200 m).The performance of SFOWTs can be improved through a judicious choice of configuration, pretension, and mooring line layout.Four SFOWTs with different configurations and a similar mass, named Cyl-4,Cub-4,Cyl-3,and Hex-3,were designed and analyzed. The responses of the four SFOWTs were predicted under operational condition and extreme condition. The results show that the four SFOWTs exhibited good performance under both conditions. The effect of platform configurations on power output was negligible under the operational condition.Under the extreme condition, among the four SFOWTs,the mean bending moments at the tower base were very close, while the maximum values differed by up to 21.5%,due to the configurations. The effect of wind-wave misalignment under the extreme condition was further analyzed. In general, the motion performances of the four-pontoon SFOWTs,Cyl-4 and Cub-4,were superior to those of the three-pontoon SFOWTs,Cyl-3 and Hex-3.Optimization studies of the mooring system were carried out on Cub-4 with different mooring line pretensions and four mooring layouts. The optimized Cub-4 could reduce the maximum motion responses in the surge, heave, and yaw by 97.7%,91.5%,and 98.7%,respectively. 展开更多

To simulate floating offshore wind turbine(FOWT)in coupled wind-wave domain via CFD method, the NREL 5MW wind turbine supported by the OC3-Hywind Spar platform is modeled in the STAR-CCM+ software.Based on the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS)equations and re-normalisation group(RNG)k-εturbulence model, the rotor aerodynamic simulation for wind turbine is conducted.Numerical results agree well with the NREL data.Taking advantage with the volume of fluid(VOF)method and dynamic fluid body interaction(DFBI)technology, the dynamic responses of the floating system with mooring lines are simulated under the coupled wind-wave sea condition. The free-decay tests for rigid-body degrees of freedom(DOFs)in still water and hydrodynamic tests in a regular wave are performed to validate the numerical model by comparing its result with the results simulated by FAST.Finally, the simulations of the overall FOWT system in the coupled wind-wave flow field are carried out.The relationship between the power output and dynamic motion responses of the platform is investigated. The numerical results show that the dynamic response of wind turbine performance and platform motions all vary in the same frequency as the inlet wave.During platform motion, the power output of wind turbine is more sensitive than the thrust force. This study may provide some reference for further research in the coupled aero-hydro simulation of FOWT. 展开更多

The hydroelastic response of very large floating structures (VLFS) under the action of ocean waves is analysed considering the small amplitude wave theory. The very large floating structure is modelled as a floating thick elastic plate based on Timoshenko- Mindlin plate theory, and the analysis for the hydroelastic response is performed considering different edge boundary conditions. The numerical study is performed to analyse the wave reflection and transmission characteristics of the floating plate under the influence of different support conditions using eigenfunction expansion method along with the orthogonal mode-coupling relation in the case of finite water depth. Further, the analysis is extended for shallow water depth, and the continuity of energy and mass flux is applied along the edges of the plate to obtain the solution for the problem. The hydroelastic behaviour in terms of reflection and transmission coefficients, plate deflection, strain, bending moment and shear force of the floating thick elastic plate with support conditions is analysed and compared for finite and shallow water depth. The study reveals an interesting aspect in the analysis of thick floating elastic plate with support condition due to the presence of the rotary inertia and transverse shear deformation. The present study will be helpful for the design and analysis of the VLFS in the case of finite and shallow water depth. 展开更多

This paper presents dynamic-behavior comparisons and related forensic analyses of a submerged floating tunnel(SFT)between numerical simulation and physical experiment under regular and irregular waves. The experiments are conducted in the 3Dwave tank with 1:33.3 scale, and the corresponding coupled time-domain simulation tool is devised for comparison. The entire SFT systemconsists of a long concrete tunnel and 12 tubular aluminummooring lines. Two numerical simulation models, the Cummins equation with 3D potential theory including second-order wave-body interaction effects and the much simpler Morison-equation-based formula with the lumped-massbased line model, are designed and compared.Forensic analyses for mooring-line adjustments in the simulation are carried out in view of the best representation of the physical system. After that, the measured pre-tension distribution and systemstiffness of twelvemooring lines arewell reproduced in the numericalmodel.Subsequently, the dynamic responses and mooring tensions of the SFT are compared under regular and irregular waves. The measured and simulated results coincide reasonably well for both regular-and irregular-wave conditions. 展开更多

A new liquid-liquid microextraction method based on the solidification of floating organic drops coupled with gas chromatography was developed for the determination of trace benzene, toluene and xylene(BTX) in water samples. In the microextraction procedure, a microdrop of n-decanol was delivered to the surface of the analytes’ solution, and stirred for a desired time. Following the absolute extraction, the sample vial was cooled in an ice bath for 10 min. The solidified n-decanol was then transferred into a plastic tube and melted naturally; and 1 μL of it was injected into gas chromatography for analysis. Factors relevant to the extraction efficiency were studied and optimized. The optimal experimental conditions were: 15 μL of n-decanol as extractive solvent, 30 mL of solution containing analytes, no salt, the stirring rate 400 r/min, the extraction temperature 30 °C, and the extraction time 30 min. Under those optimized conditions, the detection limit(LOD) of analytes was in a range of 0.05―0.10 ng/mL by the developed method. A good linearity(r0.99) in a calibration range of 0.01―100 μg/mL was obtained. The recoveries of the real samples at different spiked levels of BTX were in the range from 92.2% to 103.4%. 展开更多

Two-dimensional(2D)flume experiments are useful in investigating the performances of floating breakwaters(FBs),including hydrodynamic performances, motion responses, and mooring forces.Designing a reasonable gap between the flume wall and the FBs is a critical step in 2D flume tests. However, research on the effect of the gap on the accuracy of 2D FB experimental results is scarce. To address this issue,a numerical wave tank is developed using CFD to estimate the wave-FB interaction of a moored dual-cylindrical FB,and the results are compared to experimental data from a previously published work. There is good agreement between them, indicating that the numerical model is sufficiently accurate. The numerical model is then applied to explore the effect of gap diffraction on the performance of FBs in2D experiments. It was discovered that the nondimensional gap length L_(Gap)/W_(Pool)should be smaller than 7.5%to ensure that the relative error of the transmission coefficient is smaller than 3%.The influence of the gap is also related to the entering wave properties, such as the wave height and period. 展开更多

This paper proposes a new concept of an actively-controlled wave energy converter for suppressing the pitch and roll motions of floating offshore wind turbines. The wave energy converter consists of several floating bodies that receive the wave energy, actuators that convert the wave energy into electrical energy and generate the mechanical forces, and rigid bars that connect the floating bodies and the wind turbine platform and deliver the actuator forces to the platform. The rotational torques that are required to minimize the platform pitch and roll motions are determined using a linear quadratic regulator. The torques determined in this manner are realized through the actuator forces that maximize the wave power capture as well. The performance of the proposed wave energy converter in simultaneously suppressing the platform pitch and roll motions and extracting the wave energy is validated through simulations. 展开更多

Since China’s reform and opening-up,the growing disparity between urban and rural areas and regions has led to massive migration. With China’s Rural Revitalization Strategy and the industrial transfer from the eastern coastal areas to the inland, the migration direction and pattern of the floating population have undergone certain changes.Using the 2017 China Migrants Dynamic Survey(CMDS),excluding Hong Kong,Macao, and Taiwan regions of China, organized by China’s National Health Commission, the relationship matrix of the floating population is constructed according to the inflow place of the interviewees and their outflow place(the location of the registered residence)in the questionnaire survey. We then apply the complex network model to analyze the migration direction and network pattern of China’s floating population from the city scale. The migration network shows an obvious hierarchical agglomeration. The first-,second-,third-and fourth-tier distribution cities are municipalities directly under the central government, provincial capital cities, major cities in the central and western regions and ordinary cities in all provinces, respectively. The migration trend is from the central and western regions to the eastern coastal areas. The migration network has‘small world’characteristics, forming nine communities. It shows that most node cities in the same community are closely linked and geographically close, indicating that the migration network of floating population is still affected by geographical proximity.Narrowing the urban-rural and regional differences will promote the rational distribution this population. It is necessary to strengthen the reform of the registered residence system,so that the floating population can enjoy urban public services comparable to other populations, and allow migrants to live and work in peace. 展开更多

The narrow attenuation bands of traditional marine structures have long been a challenge in mitigating water waves. In this paper,a metastructure(MS)composed of floating periodic pontoons is proposed for broadband water wave attenuation. The interaction of surface gravity waves with the MS is investigated using linear wave theory. The potential solutions of water waves by the MS with a finite array are developed by using the eigenfunction expansion matching method(EEMM),and the band structure of the MS is calculated by the transfer matrix method(TMM),in which the evanescent modes of waves are considered. The solution is verified against the existing numerical result for a special case.Based on the present solution, the association between Bragg resonance reflection and Bloch bandgaps is examined, the effects of pontoon geometry are analyzed, and the comparison between floating MS and bottom-mounted periodic structures is conducted.A computational fluid dynamics(CFD)model is further developed to assess the structures in practical fluid environments, and the floating MS presents excellent wave attenuation performance. The study presented here may provide a promising solution for protecting the coast and offshore structures. 展开更多
