The present work is aimed at investigating this folkloric use. Methods:The anti-inflammatory effect of the leaf extracts and fractions was investigated in experimental animal models of acute and chronic inflammation. The possible mechanisms by which the two most active fractions, hexane(HE) and ethyl acetate(EF) exert their effects were also investigated. Results:The crude extract(200 mg/kg) showed moderate inhibition of egg albumen-induced edema in rats(%edema inhibition = 54.69) at 4 h.HE and EF showed very high activity(%edema inhibition of 81.25 and 67.19 respectively at 200 mg/kg) at 4h as compared to the control. Both fractions ameliorated arthritis induced by formaldehyde in rats.At 400 mg/kg,HE evofeed a significant irritation of gastric mucosa in rats.EF(200 mg/kg,p.o.) significantly inhibited leucocytes(%inhibition = 36.79) migration in vivo, but could not stabilize heat and hypotonicity-indueed lysis of human erythrocyte at 200 and 400μg/mL in vitro.Phytochemical investigation revealed the presence of terpenoids and steroids in HE and flavonoids, tannins and saponins in EF.Conclusion:These results suggest that the leaves of Alchornea floribunda possess anti-inflammatory activity in acute and chronic inflammation. The activity may derive from a combination of inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis and leucocytes migration. The phytochemical constituents detected in HE and EF may account for the anti-inflammatory activity.展开更多

When transfered onto subculture media, friable callus developed into embryogenic callus, which was used to establish cell suspension lines. Cell suspensions had to be subcultured at a interval of 4-5 days at the first several culture cycles. The best subculturing cycle for the stable cell suspensions was 8-10 days. The best inoculum quantity was 1 mL PCV(Packed Cell Volume) per 40 mL culture fluid.展开更多

[Method] A total of 8 floribunda rose cul- tivars (Carefree Wonder, Scloss Mannheim, Bright Smile, Goldmarie, Betty Prior, Red Riding Hood Fairy Tale, Golden Scepter and Iceberg) were selected as the research objects, and their growth, adaptability and disease resistance in Sanya area were compared. [Result] Carefree Wonder, Scloss Mannheim, Iceberg and Bright Smile were suitable to be planted in Sanya area. Among them, Carefree Wonder, Scloss Mannheim and Iceberg were characterized with fewer diseases, bright colors, heat resistance and strong stress resistance, and they could be planted as ornamental flowers in Sanya area. [Conclusion] This study will provide a reference for the selection of ornamental flowers in Sanya area.展开更多

The aim of the present study was to document the knowledge of herbal sellers in the preparation of the so-called “B. floribunda fortifier” and to compare the plant root content with the recommended nutritional values and the permitted limit for medicinal plants. The study revealed that, unlike other regions of Brazil, in the Midwest region, the root of the plant is used as food to treat fatigue and exhaustion. The contents in B. floribunda root decreased in the following order: Ca > K > P > Na > Fe > Mg > Si > Mn > Zn > Cu. Daily intake of 30 grams of B. floribunda roots are considered as an excellent source of Cr, Cu, Mn and Se for people 19 to 50 years of age according to the RDA. In addition, Cu and Fe showed content above the established limit for medicinal plants stipulated by other countries. The root of the plant has low K, Mg, P, Na and Zn content. When the contents in roots of the plant are below the oral dose of reference, consumption of this plant can be considered safe and without risk to human health. On the other hand, concentration of elements such as Cu, Fe, Ni, Al, Cr and Se exceeding the allowable limit may cause serious health problems due to prolonged ingestion and large amounts consumed daily. The Brazilian legislation does not establish a permissible limit of macro- and micro-elements in medicinal plants;thus, the results presented in this study will contribute to the Brazilian public health policy on medicinal plants.展开更多
