The nutritional value of perishable food items,such as fruits and vegetables,depends on their freshness levels.The existing approaches solve a binary class problem by classifying a known fruit\vegetable class into fre...The nutritional value of perishable food items,such as fruits and vegetables,depends on their freshness levels.The existing approaches solve a binary class problem by classifying a known fruit\vegetable class into fresh or rotten only.We propose an automated fruits and vegetables categorization approach that first recognizes the class of object in an image and then categorizes that fruit or vegetable into one of the three categories:purefresh,medium-fresh,and rotten.We gathered a dataset comprising of 60K images of 11 fruits and vegetables,each is further divided into three categories of freshness,using hand-held cameras.The recognition and categorization of fruits and vegetables are performed through two deep learning models:Visual Geometry Group(VGG-16)and You Only Look Once(YOLO),and their results are compared.VGG-16 classifies fruits and vegetables and categorizes their freshness,while YOLO also localizes them within the image.Furthermore,we have developed an android based application that takes the image of the fruit or vegetable as input and returns its class label and its freshness degree.A comprehensive experimental evaluation of proposed approach demonstrates that the proposed approach can achieve a high accuracy and F1score on gathered FruitVeg Freshness dataset.The dataset is publicly available for further evaluation by the research community.展开更多

[ Method ] Fresh vegetable samples were collected in 14 areas of Hunan Province and Xikuangshan Street. The content of antimony was detected by Hydride Generation-atomic fluorescence spectrometry. The spatial and temporal distribution of total antimony in fresh vegetables in different areas and seasons were compared. [Result] In 703 vegetable samples, the reference range (P5-195) of total antimony content was ND -0.25mg/kg, and the median was 0. 018 mg/kg; and the median of total antimony content in Xiangtan City and Xikuangshan Street were 0.046 and 0.041 mg/kg respectively, significantly higher than those in other areas. The differences among groups were statistically significant ( P 〈 0. 05 ). The reference range of total antimony content in spring samples was ND -0.24 mg/kg, and the median was 0. 023mg/kg; the reference range of total antimony in autumn samples was ND -0. 088mg/kg, and the median was 0.007 4 mg/kg. It is difficult to determine the photosynthetic parameters of non-flat leaves/green stems using photosynthetic instruments, due to the unusual morphology of both organs, especially for Suaeda salsa and Salicornia bige...It is difficult to determine the photosynthetic parameters of non-flat leaves/green stems using photosynthetic instruments, due to the unusual morphology of both organs, especially for Suaeda salsa and Salicornia bigelovii as two seawater-tolerant vegetables. To solve the problem, we developed a simple, practical, and eff ective method to measure and calculate the photosynthetic parameters(such as P N, g s, E) based on unit fresh mass, instead of leaf area. The light/CO 2 /temperature response curves of the plants can also be measured by this method. This new method is more eff ective, stable, and reliable than conventional methods for plants with non-flat leaves. In addition, the relative notes on measurements and calculation of photosynthetic parameters were discussed in this paper. This method solves technical difficulties in photosynthetic parameter determination of the two seawater-tolerant vegetables and similar plants.展开更多
