The contents of waste glass powder(WGP)(0%,10%,15%,20%,25%)and water-binder ratio(W/C)(0.24,0.26,0.28)were used as influencing factors, and the quality loss rate(Δm)and compressive strength loss rate(Δfc)were used as characterization parameters. The Ca/Si ratio and main element contents of C-S-H gels with different WGP content were investigated by energy dispersive spectrometry(EDS).The pore structure evolution characteristics of WGP composite cementing materials were investigated by low field nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR).UsingΔfc as the index of frost resistance degradation and Weibull function, the frost resistance degradation of glass doped pervious concrete(WGP-PC)was modeled. The results show that, with WGP,for the same number of cycles,Δm andΔfc decrease and increase with the increase of WGP.Under the same WGP content,Δm andΔfc decrease first and then increase with the increase of W/C.After 100 freeze-thaw cycles, the samples with WGP content of 20%and W/C of 0.26 have the best freeze-resistance.Microscopic tests show that with the increase of WGP content, the Ca/Si ratio of C-S-H gel decreases at first and then increases with the increase of WGP content. The extreme value of Ca/Si is 2.36 when WGP is added by 20%.The pore volume of hardened paste with 20%WGP content decreased by 18.6%compared with that of cement system without WGP.The overall compactness of the specimen was improved. On the basis of the test data,a life prediction model was established according to Weibull function. The experiment showed thatΔfc could be used as a durability degradation index, and the slope of the reliability curve became gentle after WGP was added, which reduced the damage degradation rate of PC.W/C was 0.26.It's about 5000 hours. 展开更多

It has been widely recognized that loess has a low stability and permeability, and it is susceptible to a sudden decrease in total volume or collapse upon wetting. When the railway subgrade was under the dynamic trainload, the loess subgrade was prone to instability and liquefaction.loess is higher than that of the cement modified loess, but lower than that of the MPG modified loess. However, the coefficient of permeability for the MPGcement modified loess has an opposite result, and the MPG-cement modified loess specimens have the best frost resistance. In addition, the mechanism of MPG-Bao Zhong railway is a key railway for Guyuan city,in Ningxia province of China, which is an important city of the Belt and Road.Due to the influence of largearea flood irrigation on the farmland, the subgrade had a degree of settlement. The settlement had not been alleviated after three treatments, which seriously affected the safety of the train. For this reason, cement,Modified Phospho Gypsum(MPG)and MPGcement were used to reinforce the subgrade loess, and the unconfined compressive strength test, permeability test and freeze-thaw cycle test were carried out. Then the compressive strength, impermeability and frost resistance of the three were analyzed and compared. The results indicate that the compressive strength of the MPG-cement modified cement modified loess is discussed. It is found that cement and MPG have two hydration reactions with water in loess.Ettringite, the hydration reaction product, which not only fills the pores, restricts the movement of the soil particles, but also acts as a connecting soil particle in the soil particles. Therefore, the strength of the modified loess continues to increase, and the physical properties of the modified loess are improved. 展开更多

The frost resistance and compressive strength degradation of concrete under the simultaneous action of compressive load and freeze-thaw cycles were experimentally investigated. Air-entrained and non-air-entrained specimens with different water/cement(w/c) ratios were subjected to different compressive stress by specially designed apparatus, while the specimens suffered freeze-thaw cycles. In order to track the strength degradation process, the nondestructive tests were carried out after each freeze-thaw cycle got the residual strength for each specimen. Based on the experimental data, a variable Kss was proposed to describe the damage velocity. Experimental results indicate that the deterioration processes are accelerated by the compressive loads, and the damage velocity increases with the increases of the preloading levels and w/c ratios. The air entrainment decreases the damage velocity and improves the frost resistance of non-air-entrained concrete, although it would reduce the compressive strength of concrete. 展开更多

Pervious concrete is a special type of concrete that is of high porosity and contains no or a small amount of fine aggregate, and it is an important basic material for sponge city construction. The presence of a large number of connected pores inside pervious concrete leads to a marked difference in durability failure mechanism compared with that of ordinary concrete. In this study, the frost resistance and anti-clogging of pervious concrete were introduced in detail, and the methods to improve their performance were summarized systematically. The cracking pattern of pervious concrete is influenced by geometric characteristics and three-dimensional morphological features of pores, resulting in its crack generation, development, and geometry being significantly different from those of ordinary concrete, thus leading to different freeze-thaw cycle mechanisms. In addition, due to its different pore structure compared to ordinary concrete, three types of clogging mechanisms, affecting the long-term permeability of pervious concrete were elaborated systematically(i.e.,physical clogging, biological clogging, and chemical clogging). And the ways to improve the anti-clogging of pervious concrete are systematically presented from multiple perspectives. Finally,in order to broaden the engineering applications of pervious concrete, some research proposals are presented in this study. 展开更多

Structure characteristics of three kinds of ceramsite with different water absorption and the influence on microstructure of interfacial zone as well as performance of chloride permeabil-ity and frost resistance of combined aggregate concrete were investigated. The results show that, dense shell and closed internal pore have sharp effects on lowering water absorption of ceramsite. However, the ceramsite with high water absorption has obvious effect on the densification of interfa-cial paste which would develop a structure with lower porosity, finer aperture and higher microhard-ness. Furthermore, the impermeability and frost-resistance of concrete can be improved due to the ef-fect of water absorption and releasing by ceramsite with higher water absorption. 展开更多

Chemical admixtures are of paramount importance to the performance of modern cement based composites. In this paper, we performed a series of tests to investigate the effects of chemical admixtures on the cement asphalt mortar(CA mortar), i e, compressive strength, frost resistance, permeability, fatigue resistance, pore structure and microstructure. In particular, two types of chemical admixtures were tested, i e, defoamer(tributyl phosphate(TBP)) and polycarboxylate superplasticizer(PS). The results indicate that the addition of TBP and PS eliminates big bubbles and promotes small non-connected pores forming in matrix. Besides, an optimum dosage of TBP and PS may be determined with respect to the frost resistance, permeability and fatigue resistance of CA mortar. Further elaborative discussions are presented as well as experimental evidences from mercury intrusion porosimetry, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy. 展开更多

Thermal insulation is an important indicator to evaluate the construction material in cold region engineering. As we know, adding the industrial waste as lightweight aggregate or creating the pore inside the cement-based composite could make the texture loose, and the thermal insulating capacity of the material would be improved with this texture.Using these methods, the industrial by-product and engineering waste could be cycled in an efficient way. Moreover, after service the fragmented cement composites paste could be used as aggregate in the thermal insulating concrete again. While the porous texture is not favorable for the mechanical strength and long-term durability in a cold environment. To balance the above three requirements from two opposite directions, different processing methods were applied to create the thermal insulation concrete/mortar.Firstly,the organic/inorganic lightweight aggregate, including the Expanded Polystyrene(EPS),Expanded Perlite(EP),and Ceramsite(CRMST)particles, were applied to create the Lightweight Aggregate Concrete(LWAC).As the comparative tests, the expanded Superabsorbent Polymer(SAP)hydrogel and Air-Entraining Agent(AEA)were also introduced to create the porous mortar. The above concrete/mortar was tested in the normal state and under the Freeze-Thaw cycle to explore the engineering performance in cold regions.During the experimenting process, the thermal insulation, mechanical strength, and frost resistance of these cement-based composites were investigated, and an optimal thermal insulation concrete/mortar was determined. 展开更多

The waste clay bricks from debris of buildings were evaluated through lab tests as environ- mental friendly materials for pavement sub-base in the research. Five sets of coarse aggregates which contained 0, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% crushed bricks, respectively, were blended with sand and treated by 5 % cement. The test results indicated that cement treated aggregate which contains crushed clay brick aggregate had a lower maximum dry density (MDD) and a higher optimum moisture content (OMC). Moreover, the unconfined compressive strength (UCS), resilience modulus, splitting strength, and frost resistance performance of the specimens decreased with increase of the amount of crushed clay brick aggregate. On the other hand, it can be observed that the use of crushed clay brick in the mixture decreased the dry shrinkage strain of the specimens. Compared with the asphalt pave- ment design specifications of China, the results imply that the substitution rate of natural aggregate with crushed clay brick aggregate in the cement treated aggregate sub-base material should be less than 50% (5 % cement content in the mixture). Furthermore, it needs to be noted that the cement treated aggre- gate which contains crushed clay bricks should be cautiously used in the cold region due to its insuffi- cient frost resistance performance. 展开更多
