We have applied functional near-infrared spectroscopy(fNIRS)to the human forehead to distinguish different levels of mental workload on the basis of hemodynamic changes occurring in the prefrontal cortex.We report data on 3 subjects from a protocol involving 3 mental workload levels based on to working memory tasks.To quantify the potential of fNIRS for mental workload discrimination,we have applied a 3-nearest neighbor classification algorithm based on the amplitude of oxyhemoglobin(HbO2)and deoxyhemoglobin(HbR)concentration changes associated with the working memory tasks.We have found classification success rates in the range of 44%-72%,which are significantly higher than the corresponding chance level(for random data)of 19.1%.This work shows the potential of fNIRS for mental workload classification,especially when more parameters(rather than just the amplitude of concentration changes used here)and more sophisticated classification algorithms(rather than the simple 3-nearest neighbor algorithm used here)are considered and optimized for this application. 展开更多

Epilepsy can be defined as a dysfunction of the brain network,and each type of epilepsy involves different brain-network changes that are implicated diffe rently in the control and propagation of interictal or ictal discharges.Gaining more detailed information on brain network alterations can help us to further understand the mechanisms of epilepsy and pave the way for brain network-based precise therapeutic approaches in clinical practice.An increasing number of advanced neuroimaging techniques and electrophysiological techniques such as diffusion tensor imaging-based fiber tra ctography,diffusion kurtosis imaging-based fiber tractography,fiber ball imagingbased tra ctography,electroencephalography,functional magnetic resonance imaging,magnetoencephalography,positron emission tomography,molecular imaging,and functional ultrasound imaging have been extensively used to delineate epileptic networks.In this review,we summarize the relevant neuroimaging and neuroelectrophysiological techniques for assessing structural and functional brain networks in patients with epilepsy,and extensively analyze the imaging mechanisms,advantages,limitations,and clinical application ranges of each technique.A greater focus on emerging advanced technologies,new data analysis software,a combination of multiple techniques,and the construction of personalized virtual epilepsy models can provide a theoretical basis to better understand the brain network mechanisms of epilepsy and make surgical decisions. 展开更多

A novel approach to image hemoglobin concentration(△Dhb) and oxygen saturation (△Doxy) of breast tissue is presented. The scenograph of dual-wavelength (760 and 850 nm) near infrared lights through breast tissue is acquired by high sensitive charge coupled device (CCD) camera. The evaluation criterion of the difference of △Dhh and △Doxy between detected and referenced breast tissue can be obtained by a calculation formula without complicate caculation. This approach is applied to clinic detection in breast tissue. The ongoing clinical experiments indicate that malignant tumor usually exhibits characterize of "higher △Dhb and lower △Doxy", while benign lesion often shows "lower △Dhb and higher △Doxy" or other characters. So it is useful to assist the diagnosis of breast disease. 展开更多

Transcranial magnetic stimulation(TMS)has been established as an important and effective treatment for various psychiatric disorders.However,its effectiveness has likely been limited due to the dearth of neuronavigational tools for targeting purposes,unclear ideal stimulation parameters,and a lack of knowledge regarding the physiological response of the brain to TMS in each psychiatric condition.Modern optical imaging modalities,such as functional near-infrared spectroscopy and diffuse optical tomography,are promising tools for the study of TMS optimization and functional targeting in psychiatric disorders.They possess a unique combination of high spatial and temporal resolutions,portability,real-time capability,and relatively low costs.In this mini-review,we discuss the advent of optical imaging techniques and their innovative use in several psychiatric conditions including depression,panic disorder,phobias,and eating disorders.With further investment and research in the development of these optical imaging approaches,their potential will be paramount for the advancement of TMS treatment protocols in psychiatry. 展开更多

Compared with event-related potential(ERP)which is widely used in psychology research,functional near-infrared imaging(fNIRI)is a new technique providing hemodynamic information related to brain activity,except for electrophysiological signals.Here,we use both these techniques to study ocular attention.We conducted a series of experiments with a classic paradigm of ocular nonselective attention,and monitored responses with fNIRI and ERP respectively.The results showed that fNIRI measured brain activations in the left prefrontal lobe,while ERPs showed activation in frontal lobe.More importantly,only with the combination measurements of fNIRI and ERP,we were then able to find the pinpoint source of ocular nonselective attention,which is in the left and upper corner in Brodmann area 10.These results demonstrated that fNIRI is a reliable technique in psychology,and the combination of fNIRI and ERP can be promising to reveal more information in the research of brain mechanism. 展开更多

在功能性近红外光谱(fNIRS)成像技术的实现中,扩散光学层析成像(DOT)具有改善定量性和分辨率的巨大潜力,但其效果受制于生理干扰(呼吸、心跳和低频振荡等)、检测系统的随机噪声以及有限测量数据量带来的不适定性。为增强fNIRS-DOT成像... 在功能性近红外光谱(fNIRS)成像技术的实现中,扩散光学层析成像(DOT)具有改善定量性和分辨率的巨大潜力,但其效果受制于生理干扰(呼吸、心跳和低频振荡等)、检测系统的随机噪声以及有限测量数据量带来的不适定性。为增强fNIRS-DOT成像的性能,本文提出了一种基于模型先验信息的深度卷积编解码网络重建方法,利用分层半三维重建算法实现对表层和深层脑血氧变化信息的初步区分,发挥卷积、编解码网络对空间特征的学习能力,实现对深层脑激活信息的提取重建。为验证所提重建方法的有效性,开展了数值模拟和仿体实验,并将其与传统重建方法进行对比。结果表明,所提重建法不仅可以显著提高重建精度,极大地缩短重建时间,而且具有优异的泛化能力,为实现动态fNIRS成像提供了重要参考。 展开更多

目的:基于磁共振波谱技术探究2型糖尿病相关认知功能障碍(T2DACD)患者脑内代谢,探讨“调脏醒神”电针治疗T2DACD的效应机制。方法:招募15例T2DACD患者作为观察组,22例健康受试者作为对照组。观察组接受“调脏醒神”电针治疗,穴取百会、... 目的:基于磁共振波谱技术探究2型糖尿病相关认知功能障碍(T2DACD)患者脑内代谢,探讨“调脏醒神”电针治疗T2DACD的效应机制。方法:招募15例T2DACD患者作为观察组,22例健康受试者作为对照组。观察组接受“调脏醒神”电针治疗,穴取百会、神庭,双侧肺俞、脾俞、肾俞、足三里、三阴交、合谷、太冲,疏密波,频率2 Hz/100 Hz,电流强度0.1~1.0 mA,每次30 min,每日1次,5次为一疗程,疗程间休息2 d,连续治疗8个疗程。对照组于治疗前、观察组于治疗前后评定蒙特利尔认知评估量表(MoCA)评分、临床痴呆评定量表(CDR)评分、Flanker范式、Stroop范式、Nback范式、焦虑自评量表(SAS)评分、抑郁自评量表(SDS)评分、汉密尔顿抑郁量表(HAMD)评分,检测糖脂代谢指标[空腹血糖(FPG)、糖化血红蛋白(HbA1c)、总胆固醇(TC)、三酰甘油(TG)、高密度脂蛋白胆固醇(HDL-C)、低密度脂蛋白胆固醇(LDL-C)],应用磁共振波谱技术检测基底节区代谢物,并将代谢物值与MoCA评分、CDR评分、Flanker范式、Stroop范式、Nback范式进行相关性分析。结果:与对照组比较,观察组治疗前MoCA评分降低(P<0.001),CDR评分、FPG、HbA1c升高(P<0.001),Flanker不冲突、Flanker冲突、Stroop中性、Stroop一致性、Stroop冲突和1-back反应时均延长(P<0.05,P<0.001),Flanker冲突、Stroop冲突和1-back准确率均降低(P<0.05,P<0.01);基底节区左侧N-乙酰天门冬氨酸(NAA)/肌酸(Cr)值降低(P<0.001),右侧肌醇(MI)/Cr值升高(P<0.05)。与治疗前比较,观察组治疗后MoCA评分升高(P<0.001),CDR、SAS、HAMD评分降低(P<0.01,P<0.05),Flanker冲突、Stroop冲突反应时均缩短(P<0.001,P<0.05),Flanker冲突和1-back准确率均升高(P<0.001,P<0.05);基底节区左侧NAA/Cr值、右侧γ-氨基丁酸(GABA)/Cr值升高(P<0.05),右侧MI/Cr值降低(P<0.05)。治疗前,观察组基底节区右侧MI/Cr值与Stroop一致性反应时呈正相关(r=0.671,P=0.012),右侧MI/Cr值与Stroop冲突反应时呈正相关(r=0.576,P=0.039)。结论:“调脏醒神”电针可改善T2DACD患者认知功能,可能与调节基底节区NAA、MI、GABA水平有关。 展开更多

功能性近红外光谱(f NIRS)成像是一种新兴的光学脑成像技术。已有大量基于f NIRS简单任务脑力负荷评估方面的研究,但当实验任务从单一简单任务变化为复杂综合任务时,相应方法不能直接简单套用。借助于f NIRS技术,通过复杂任务特征分解... 功能性近红外光谱(f NIRS)成像是一种新兴的光学脑成像技术。已有大量基于f NIRS简单任务脑力负荷评估方面的研究,但当实验任务从单一简单任务变化为复杂综合任务时,相应方法不能直接简单套用。借助于f NIRS技术,通过复杂任务特征分解的思路进行尝试,研究大脑皮层血氧情况随复杂任务各任务特征的变化规律,为f NIRS评估复杂任务脑力负荷等研究提供思路和基础。结果发现:前额叶大脑皮层(PFC)区域的含氧血红蛋白(Hb O)对复杂度、时间压力和有无控制三种任务特征的变化均有较高的激活程度响应;视觉皮层(VC)区域的Hb O对不同时间压力任务特征导致的任务难度变化有较高的激活程度响应,但对不同复杂度和有无控制特征的激活程度响应较低;运动皮层(MC)区域Hb O对有无控制输出特征有较高的激活程度响应,对不同时间压力特征的激活程度响应较弱。 展开更多
