Now the wish is to materialize with a $500-mil- lion facility on the drawing board. The project is being developed by the Aviation Industry Corp. of China (AVIC), a company involved in the production of military aircraft and information and communications technology products as well as construction of commercial airports. The artistic impressions of the airport developed by AVIC include a terminal, aircraft and other vehicle parking spaces, and a hotel. At the time of writing this, the Zambian Government was looking for over $500 million so that construction could begin on the 2,000-hectare site in a forest reserve west of the city. 展开更多

This manuscript addresses the futuristic energy savings by impregnating building elements with PCM formations. Two structured gypsum building walls were monitored under the transient heat mode in the conducted experiments. One wall included (phase-change material) spheres, integrated into one styrofoam layer, installed at different positions, from 1 to 5, from the outside to the inside of the room. The other wall included one styrofoam insulation layer, perforated with holes, with changeable positions, from 1 to 5, from the outside to the inside of the room. The temperatures in the experiment corresponded to high summer temperatures in the tropical or subtropical zones. The obtained experimental results were further analyzed, while HVAC is off, for an indoor thermal comfort range, from 20&#730;C to 25&#730;C. This manuscript has analyzed the thermal comfort, effectiveness and optimal position of PCM spheres, incorporated in styrofoam thermal insulation, for a previously determined temperature range. The wall with integrated PCM should not be thick, (in total), but rather slender so that PCM can show its effectiveness. The farthermost position of the PCM layer should be the third because PCM combined with a lot of thermal insulation is not so effective and the thermal insulation has a buffer effect. The honeycomb or hollow-core thermal insulations should be avoided to put alone, because of natural air convection in them, which raises the heat flow. The monthly monetary saving, for a PCM-integrated wall, is calculated and amounts to 55.5 $, which shows that the integration of PCM in building walls, in hot summer locations, is very beneficial. 展开更多

Emissions produced by the aviation industry are currently a severe environmental threat;therefore,aviation agencies and governments have set emission targets and formulated plans to restrict emissions within the next decade.Hybrid aircraft technology is being considered to meet these targets.The importance of these technologies lies in their advancements in terms of aircraft life cycles and environmental benignity.Owing to these advancements,hybrid electric systems with more than one power source have become promising for the aviation industry,considering that the growth of air traffic is projected to double in the next decade.Hybrid technologies have given future hybrid fans and motor-fan engines potential as alternative power generators.Herein,Turboelectric Distributed Propulsion(TeDP)is discussed in terms of power distribution and power sources.The fundamentals of turbofan and turboshaft engines are presented along with their electricitygeneration mechanism.TeDP is discussed from a design viewpoint,with a detailed discussion of different types of hybrid electric and turboelectric systems.Examples of proposed TeDP aircraft models and numerical modelling tools used to simulate the performance of TeDP models are reviewed.Finally,innovative turboelectric systems in which electric power savers and mechanical gear changers have been discarded for weight optimisation are presented along with other prospective models,engines,approaches,and architectures.The findings of this review indicate the knowledge gaps in the field of numerical modelling for NASA’s TeDP and its capability to increase the efficiency by up to 24%with a 50%reduction in emissions relative to those of conventional gas turbines. 展开更多

The Chinese translation of Edward Bellamy's Looking Backward.. 2000-1887(1887) at the turn of the twentieth century has been little studied, in spite of Bellamy's obvious influence on Chinese intellectuals and reformist thinkers Enthusiastically embraced by the intelligentsia as a gospel of social change, the utopian fiction has inspired subsequent Chinese writings of science fantasy in popular fiction. Bellamy's tale centers on the adventure of time-traveler Julian West, a young Bostonian who is put into a hypnotic sleep in the late nineteenth century and awakens in the year 2000 in a socialist utopia. He discovers an ideally realized vision of the future, one unthinkable in his own century. This article argues that Chinese translators, in their conventional form of storytelling, have intentionally converted Bellamy's original religious prophesy into a vision of a new and modernized state that is in line with the Chinese evolutionary historical imagination. It discusses the problematic of imagining the future by delineating the relationships of utopianism, social modernity, and temporality as the novel was written by an engaged American writer and then rendered into various Chinese versions by Western missionaries, Chinese intellectuals, and popular writers. 展开更多
