This paper presents a closed-loop vector control structure based on adaptive Fuzzy Logic Sliding Mode Controller (FL-SMC) for a grid-connected Wave Energy Conversion System (WECS) driven Self-Excited Induction Generator (SEIG). The aim of the developed control method is to automatically tune and optimize the scaling factors and the membership functions of the Fuzzy Logic Controllers (FLC) using Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithms (MOGA) and Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization (MOPSO). Two Pulse Width Modulated voltage source PWM converters with a carrier-based Sinusoidal PWM modulation for both Generator- and Grid-side converters have been connected back to back between the generator terminals and utility grid via common DC link. The indirect vector control scheme is implemented to maintain balance between generated power and power supplied to the grid and maintain the terminal voltage of the generator and the DC bus voltage constant for variable rotor speed and load. Simulation study has been carried out using the MATLAB/Simulink environment to verify the robustness of the power electronics converters and the effectiveness of proposed control method under steady state and transient conditions and also machine parameters mismatches. The proposed control scheme has improved the voltage regulation and the transient performance of the wave energy scheme over a wide range of operating conditions. 展开更多

Frequency and voltage of embedded variable speed wind turbine (VSWT) driving a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) is strongly affected by wind speed fluctuations. In practice, power imbalance between supply and demand is also common, especially when VSWT-PMSG is connected to a weak micro grid (MG). If load demand fluctuations become high, isolated MG may be unable to stabilize the frequency and voltage so that battery storage needs to be installed into the MG to adjust energy supply and demand. To allow flexible control of active and reactive power flow from/to battery storage, grid-supporting inverters are used. For a system that contains highly nonlinear components, the use of conventional linear proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controllers may cause system performance deterioration. Additionally, these controllers show slow, oscillating responses, and complex equations are required to obtain optimum responses in other controllers. To cope with these limitations, this paper proposes PID-type fuzzy controller (PIDfc) design to control grid-supporting inverter of battery. To ensure safe battery operating limits, we also propose a new controller scheme called intelligent battery protection (IBP). This IBP is integrated into PIDfc. Several simulation tests are performed to verify the scheme’s effectiveness. The results show that the proposed PIDfc controller exhibits improved performance and acceptable responses, and can be used instead of conventional controllers. 展开更多

Control strategies for extracting the three-phase reference currents for shunt active power filters are compared, evaluating their performance under different source conditions with PI and Fuzzy Controllers in MATLAB/Simulink environment When the supply voltages are balanced and sinusoidal, the two control strategies are converge to the same compensation characteristics;However, the supply voltages are distorted and/or un-balanced sinusoidal, these control strategies result in different degrees of compensation in harmonics. The compensation capabilities are not equivalent, with p - q control strategy unable to yield an adequate solution when source voltages are not ideal. Extensive simulations are carried out with PI controller and also with Fuzzy controller for both p-q and Id-Iq control strategies under different main voltages. Extensive Simulations are carried out with PI as well as fuzzy controller for both p-q and Id - Iq control strategies by considering different voltage conditions and adequate results were presented. As a result Active power filter (APF) gains much more attention due to excellent harmonic compensation. But still the performance of the active filter seems to be in contradictions with different control strategies. This paper presents detailed analysis to compare and elevate the performance of two control strategies for ex-tracting reference currents of shunt active filters under balanced, un-balanced and non-sinusoidal conditions by using Fuzzy controller. The well known methods, instantaneous real active and reactive power method (p-q) and active and reactive current method (id-iq) are two control methods which are extensively used in active filters. Extensive Simulations are carried out with fuzzy controller for both p-q and Id-Iq methods for different voltage conditions and adequate results were presented. Simulation results validate the superior per-formance of active and reactive current control strategy (id-iq) with fuzzy controller over active and reactive power control strategy (p-q) with fuzzy controller. 展开更多

Wide-area monitoring, protection, and control require communicating the specific-node information to a remote station but all information should be time synchronized so that to neutralize the time difference between information. It gives a complete simultaneous snap shot of the power system. The conventional system is not able to satisfy the time-synchronized requirement of power system. Diabetes therapy is normally based on discrete insulin infusion that uses long-time interval measurements. Nevertheless, in this paper, a continuous drug infusion closed-loop control system was proposed to avoid the traditional discrete approaches by automating diabetes therapy. Based on a continuous insulin injection model, two controllers were designed to deal with this plant. The controllers designed in this paper are: proportional integral derivative (PID), and fuzzy logic controllers (FLC). Simulation results have illustrated that the fuzzy logic controller outperformed the PID controller. These results were based on serious disturbances to glucose, such as exercise, delay or noise in glucose sensor and nutrition mixed meal absorption at meal time. 展开更多

Pneumatic artificial muscles (PAMs) have the highest power to weight and power to volume ratios of any actuator. Therefore, they can be used not only in rehabilitation engineering, but also as actuators in robots, including industrial and therapy robots. Because PAMs have highly nonlinear and time‐varying behavior associated with gas compression and the nonlinear elasticity of bladder containers, achieving excellent tracking performance using classical controllers is difficult. An adaptive self‐tuning fuzzy controller (ASTFC) including adaptive fuzzy sliding mode control (AFSMC) and functional approximation (FA) was developed in this study for overcoming the aforementioned problems. The FA technique was used to release the model‐based requirements and the update laws for the coefficients of the Fourier series function parameters were derived using a Lyapunov function to guarantee control system stability. The experimental results verified that the proposed approach can achieve excellent control performance despite external disturbance. 展开更多

However, due to the randomness and uncontrollability of wind energy, the output power of the wind power generation system will fluctuate accordingly [2]. Therefore, the corresponding energy storage devices are arranged in the non-grid-connected wind power generation system to ensure the power quality, and it has become the key to full utilization of renewable energy. In the case of wind speed fluctuation, the DC bus control strategy of the wind turbine is proposed in this paper. Rate control plays a critical role in achieving perceivable video quality under a variable bit rate,limited buffer sizes and low delay applications.Since a rate control system exhibits non-linear and unpredictable characteristics,it is difficult to establish a very accurate rate-distortion(R-D)model and acquire effective rate control performance.Considering the excellent control ability and low computing complexity of the fuzzy logic in non-linear systems,this paper proposes a bitrate control algorithm based on a fuzzy controller,named the Fuzzy Rate Control Algorithm(FRCA),for All-Intra(AI)and low-delay(LD)video source coding.Contributions of the proposed FRCA mainly consist of four aspects.First,fuzzy logic is adopted to minimize the deviation between the actual and the target buffer size in the hypothetical reference decoder(HRD).Second,a fast lookup table is employed in fuzzy rate control,which reduces computing cost of the control process.Third,an input domain determination scheme is proposed to improve the precision of the fuzzy controller.Fourth,a novel scene change detection is introduced and integrated in the FRCA to adaptively adjust the Group-of-Pictures(GOP)length when the source content fluctuates.The FRCA can be transplanted and implemented in various industry coders.Extensive experiments show that the FRCA has accurate variable bit-rate control ability and maintains a steady buffer size during the encoding processes.Compared with the default configuration encoding under AI and LD,the proposed FRCA can achieve the target bit rates more accurately in various classical encoders. 展开更多

The asymptotic stability of the proposed controller has been derived based on Lyapunaov energy function. The design procedure is straightforward due to its simple fuzzy rules and control strategies. The simulation results show that the present control strategy effectively reduces the control effort with negligible chattering in control torque signals in comparison to the existing nonlinear saturation controller. 展开更多

In order to realize the accurate obstacle avoidance function of intelligent car, we propose an intelligent car obstacle avoidance system based on optimized fuzzy control algorithm. Firstly, the kinematics model of intelligent car obstacle avoidance is established, and an efficient environment information collection system composed of multiple sensors is designed to realize the comprehensive collection of obstacle information. Then, the optimized fuzzy control system is adopted to improve the position control accuracy and obstacle avoidance ability. Through the physical debugging and joint simulation of the intelligent car fuzzy controller in the MATLAB and Simulink environment, the simulation results show that the control method can make the collision-free path planned by the intelligent car from the initial state to the obstacle avoidance smoother, and at the same time, the obstacle avoidance of the intelligent car. The actual running distance is reduced by about 16%, which can ensure the practicability of the obstacle avoidance system, provide a new guarantee for the safe operation of the car, and also provide a new idea for the development of the unmanned car. 展开更多

In recent years, the use of Fuzzy set theory has been popularised for handling overlap domains in control engineering but this has mostly been within the context of triangular membership functions. In actual practice however, such domains are hardly triangular and in fact for most engineering applications the membership functions are usually Gaussian and sometimes cosine. In an earlier paper, we derived explicit Fourier series expressions for systematic and dynamic computation of grade of membership in the overlap and non-overlap regions of triangular Fuzzy sets. In another paper, we extended the methodology to cover cases of cosine, exponential and Gaussian Fuzzy sets by presenting explicit Fourier series representation for encoding fuzziness in the overlap and non-overlap domains of Fuzzy sets. This current paper presents the development of a “Fuzzy Controller” device, which incorporates the formal mathematical representation for computing grade of membership of Gaussian and triangular Fuzzy sets. It is shown that triangular approximation of Gaussian membership function in Fuzzy control can lead to wrong linguistic classification which may have adverse effects on operational and control decisions. The development of the Fuzzy controller demonstrates that the proposed technique can indeed be incorporated in engineering systems for dynamic and systematic computation of grade of membership in the overlap and non-overlap regions of Fuzzy sets;and thus provides a basis for the design of embedded Fuzzy controller for mission critical applications. 展开更多

Semantic model and optimization of creative processes at mathematical knowledge formation

Within this model the ... The aim of this work is mathematical education through the knowledge system and mathematical modeling. A net model of formation of mathematical knowledge as a deductive theory is suggested here. Within this model the formation of deductive theory is represented as the development of a certain informational space, the elements of which are structured in the form of the orientated semantic net. This net is properly metrized and characterized by a certain system of coverings. It allows injecting net optimization parameters, regulating qualitative aspects of knowledge system under consideration. To regulate the creative processes of the formation and realization of mathematical know- edge, stochastic model of formation deductive theory is suggested here in the form of branching Markovian process, which is realized in the corresponding informational space as a semantic net. According to this stochastic model we can get correct foundation of criterion of optimization creative processes that leads to “great main points” strategy (GMP-strategy) in the process of realization of the effective control in the research work in the sphere of mathematics and its applications. 展开更多
