The welding process is evaluated by high-speed photographs and electrical signals. The deposition rate and welding time are calculated to characterize the welding efficiency. The bead formation, porosity, microstructure and mechanical properties are tested and analyzed. The results indicate that though arc deflection occurs due to the electromagnetic interference between two arcs during TGMAW process, it does not affect the welding process stability significantly. The deposition rate and welding time of TGMAW process are about 15 g/min larger and about 16.7% less than those of gas metal arc welding(GMAW)process respectively, accompanied by the reduction of heat input. The TGMAW welded joint has less porosity and more refined microstructure to contribute to the improvement of mechanical properties(micro-hardness, tensile strength and ductility). It can be concluded that TGMAW process yields excellent performance of welded joint with improved welding efficiency, which makes it extremely practical during welding of thick plates.展开更多

During the welding process, stable hybrid arc of metal inert gas(MIG) and tungsten inert gas(TIG) is employed as welding heat source. Optical and electron microscopes are used to observe the microstructures of the weld joint. X-ray diffraction(XRD) and energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS) are employed to identify the components in fusion zone. Microhardness is also tested. When the MIG current is 80 A, the perfect weld joint is obtained, though figures of fish scales are observed in all joints in the research. The fusion zone is formed by dendrites, where β-Mg17(Al, Zn)12is dispersed. The hardness in fusion zone and heat affected zone(HAZ) is lower than that in base metal(BM). The average Vickers hardness of fusion zone and HAZ is about 58 and 56 respectively, while the Vickers hardness of BM is about 63.展开更多

Pores in the weld were investigated under different welding parameters, the causes of pore formation were systematically disposed, and the effects of porosity on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the joint were analyzed. The microstructure examination shows that the pores mainly appear close to the top or bottom part of the weld, and could connect to each other and lead to the formation of cracks in the welds. However, the pores can be controlled with proper welding parameters. The tensile testing results reveal that the average joint strength is close to or higher than that of the base metal. The microhardness in the weld can be even higher than that in the base metal due to the second ohase strengthening of β-Mg17(A1, Zn)12 formed in the weld.展开更多

H...Tandem gas metal arc welding ( T-GMAW) process shows a high deposition rate that up to three times o f the single electrode GMAW, so the welding speed could be significantly increased in this process. However, the majority o f this process applications are based on the pre-programmed robotic welding, which does not allow them to track the seam real-time during welding. Rotating arc sensor, sensing the seam position by detecting the changing of welding currents, has been widely adopted in the automatic robot welding process. It is proposed in this paper to integrate the rotating arc sensor with a trailing torch to develop a new approach of rotating arc lead tandem gas metal arc welding (RLT-GMAW) process. The characteristics of the welding currents in the proposed new welding process were firstly studied, and then a self-turning fuzzy control seam tracking strategy was developed for the mobile robot automatic welding. The experimental results showed that the proposed RLT-GMAW process had an excellent seam tracking performance and high welding deposition rate. Even if there were some electromagnetic interactions between the two arcs, the deviation of the welding seam could also be reflected by the fluctuation of the welding currents on the leading arc once the correct welding parameters were selected. Based on the detected deviation, the welding tracking experiments showed that the proposed self-turning fuzzy controller had a good performance for the RLT-GMAW process seam tracking.展开更多

The objective was to investigate the influence of the shielding gas composition on the microstructure and properties of GMA welds. A macrostructural study indicated that the addition of nitrogen and oxygen to the argon shielding gas resulted in better weld penetration. Furthermore, the tensile strength and bending strength of the welds were improved when oxygen and nitrogen (at concentrations as high as approximately 0. 1vol%) were added to the shielding gas; however, these properties were adversely affected when the oxygen and nitrogen contents were increased further. This behavior was attributed to the formation of excessive brown and black oxide films on the bead surface, the formation of intermetallic compounds in the weld metal, and the formation of thicker oxide layers on the bead surface with increasing nitrogen and oxygen contents in the argon-based shielding gas. Analysis by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy revealed that most of these compounds are nitrides or oxides.展开更多

The fusion zone is formed by dendrites, where β-Mg17(Al, Zn)12is dispersed. The hardness in fusion zone and heat affected zone(HAZ) is lower than that in base metal(BM). The average Vickers hardness of fusion zone and HAZ is about 58 and 56 respectively, while the Vickers hardness of BM is about 63.

文摘Wrought magnesium alloy sheets were butt welded with gas metal arc welding process. The microhardness in the weld can be even higher than that in the base metal due to the second ohase strengthening of β-Mg17(A1, Zn)12 formed in the weld.
文摘Empirical relationship was developed to predict the fatigue life of gas metal arc welded (GMAW) cruciform joints failing from root region. High strength, age hardenable aluminium alloy of AA7075-T6 grade was used as the base material. The design of experiments concept was used to optimize the required number of fatigue testing experiments. Fatigue experiment was conducted in a servo hydraulic controlled fatigue testing machine under constant amplitude loading. The empirical relationship was developed. By using the developed empirical relationship, the fatigue life of GMAW cruciform joints failing from root region was predicted at 95% confidence level. The effect of cruciform joint dimensions on fatigue life was discussed in detail.

文摘Multi-layer narrow-gap welding of thick S32101 duplex stainless steel was conducted using laser welding with beam wobble process. The phase transition, grain size, phase proportion and crystal texture of welded joint were also studied and compared with gas metal arc welding process. The microhardness and tensile strength were measured and fracture surface was analyzed to evaluate the mechanical properties of welded joints. The results showed that beam wobble technology improved the misalignment of laser beam and filler wire in narrow groove and helped to avoid incomplete fusion defects.Compared to arc welding process, the groove size and heat input were reduced, while welding efficiency was increased. The faster cooling rate and lower temperature gradient of laser wobble welding favored grain refinement, while the austenite content in weld zone decreased. Both the beam wobble and swing arc were conducive to stir weld pool, optimizing the weld microstructure and joint formation. The microstructural variance in various weld passes was caused by the heat input and heat dissipation ability. The microhardness of laser welded joint was lower, while the tensile strength and elongation percentage were higher. The fracture surface of arc welded joint was featured with shallower dimples and cleavage steps.

文摘Gas metal arc ( GMA ) welding process can be fluently executed under the range of 0. 1 - 0. 7 MPa air pressure shielded by C02 and ArS0% + CO220% gases, which were tested by the igniting and exploding experiments using a hyperbaric chamber to simulate the underwater conditions. The arc voltage characteristics of the GMA welding were tested in hyperbaric conditions to discover the law of the welding arc affected by environmental pressure, welding current, stick-out, gas type and gas-flow. The experimental results and related discussion are also given in this paper. Finally, a mathematical model was calculated under high-pressure air condition based on the experimental data with the least square approximation method.

文摘Tandem gas metal arc welding ( T-GMAW) process shows a high deposition rate that up to three times o f the single electrode GMAW, so the welding speed could be significantly increased in this process. Based on the detected deviation, the welding tracking experiments showed that the proposed self-turning fuzzy controller had a good performance for the RLT-GMAW process seam tracking.

文摘Weld bead morphology plays an important role in welding procedure specification and welding process planning. In order to obtain the quantitative relationship between process parameters and weld morphology of DH36 marine steel plate, grey correlation method was used to study multiple morphology characteristics simultaneously.Eighteen experimental runs were proposed according to orthogonal method. With grey correlation theory, three response objectives, aspect ratio, depth of penetration and weld were transformed into a single grey correlation grade(GRG).The process parameters were quantitatively correlated to the GRG value and optimized with the target of maximum aspect ratio, minimum depth of penetration and maximum weld area. The results show that the optimized weld bead morphology is better than other weld bead morphology. The relative error of the predicted GRG with respect to the actual value is 5.06%,which further verifies the accuracy of the established model. The microstructure and hardness analysis suggests that the optimized welded joint has obtained required mechanical properties. The research outcomes provide a theoretical basis for multi-objective optimization of arc welding morphology in practical applications.
文摘In the present research, 6-mm-thick 5083-H321 aluminum alloy was joined by the double-pulsed gas metal arc welding (DP-GMAW) process. Analysis by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy revealed that most of these compounds are nitrides or oxides.
