Ion cyclotron range of frequency(ICRF) heating has been used in tokamaks as one of the most successful auxiliary heating tools and has been adopted in the EAST. However, the antenna load will fluctuate with the change of plasma parameters in the ICRF heating process. To ensure the steady operation of the ICRF heating system in the EAST, fast ferrite tuner(FFT) has been carried out to achieve real-time impedance matching. For the requirements of the FFT impedance matching system, the magnet system of the ferrite tuner(FT) was designed by numerical simulations and experimental analysis, where the biasing magnetic circuit and alternating magnetic circuit were the key researched parts of the ferrite magnet. The integral design goal of the FT magnetic circuit is that DC bias magnetic field is 2000 Gs and alternating magnetic field is±400 Gs. In the FTT, E-type magnetic circuit was adopted. Ferrite material is Nd Fe B with a thickness of 30 mm by setting the working point of Nd Fe B, and the ampere turn of excitation coil is 25 through the theoretical calculation and simulation analysis. The coil inductance to generate alternating magnetic field is about 7 m H. Eddy-current effect has been analyzed, while the magnetic field distribution has been measured by a Hall probe in the medium plane of the biasing magnet. Finally, the test results show the good performance of the biasing magnet satisfying the design and operating requirements of the FFT. 展开更多

Charge sharing is becoming an important topic as the feature size scales down in fin field-effect-transistor (FinFET) technology. However, the studies of charge sharing induced single-event transient (SET) pulse quenching with bulk FinFET are reported seldomly. Using three-dimensional technology computer aided design (3DTCAD) mixed-mode simulations, the effects of supply voltage and body-biasing on SET pulse quenching are investigated for the first time in bulk FinFET process. Research results indicate that due to an enhanced charge sharing effect, the propagating SET pulse width decreases with reducing supply voltage. Moreover, compared with reverse body-biasing (RBB), the circuit with forward body-biasing (FBB) is vulnerable to charge sharing and can effectively mitigate the propagating SET pulse width up to 53% at least. This can provide guidance for radiation-hardened bulk FinFET technology especially in low power and high performance applications. 展开更多

As the device size decreases, the soft error induced by space ions is becoming a great concern for the reliability of integrated circuits(ICs). At present, the body biasing technique is widely used in highly scaled technologies. In the paper, using the three-dimensional technology computer-aided design(TCAD) simulation, we analyze the effect of the body biasing on the single-event charge collection in deep N-well technology. Our simulation results show that the body biasing mainly affects the behavior of the source, and the effect of body biasing on the charge collection for the nMOSFET and pMOSFET is quite different. For the nMOSFET, the RBB will increase the charge collection, while the FBB will reduce the charge collection. For the pMOSFET, the effect of RBB on the SET pulse width is small, while the FBB has an adverse effect. Moreover, the differenceof the effect of body biasing on the charge collection is compared in deep N-well and twin well. 展开更多

The avoidance of runaway electrons(REs) generated during plasma disruption is of great concern for the safe operation of tokamak devices.Experimental study on the suppression of runaway current by electrode biasing(EB) and limiter biasing(LB) has been performed on the J-TEXT tokamak,which could be an alternative way to suppress the runaway current.The experimental results show that the higher the voltage value,the smaller the runaway current in both EB and LB experiments.The runaway current can be completely suppressed at an electrode biased voltage of +450 V and a limiter biased voltage of +300 V.The comparison of the energy spectra during the runaway plateau phase shows that the maximum energy max(E_(RE)) and radiation temperature T_(HXR)hard x-rays(HXRs)are significantly reduced after the application of +200 V limiter biased voltage.The electric field generated by the biased voltage may be the key factor to suppress the runaway current,and the measured radial electric field increases obviously after the voltage is applied.This may result in an increase in the loss of REs to realize the suppression of runaway current. 展开更多

The property of scrape-off layer(SOL) currents induced by a biased electrode is investigated by fully kinetic collisionless two-dimensional particle-in-cell(PIC) simulations. A reduced Vlasov–Darwin model is employed, which is capable of describing the low-frequency kinetic behavior without electromagnetic vacuum modes(w^2=w_(pe)~2+ c^2k^2). A linear decay distribution of electron currents parallel to the background magnetic field is exhibited. Simulation analyses indicate that the cross field ion current is a key factor in sheath formation and global current balance. The influences of electrode area, biasing voltage and plasma source on the SOL current profile are studied, respectively.Characteristic plasma parameters in the far SOL region of the EAST tokamak are used in simulations to assess the current driving ability of the electrode biasing method. Due to the limitations of computational power, the geometrical size of the simulation domain is significantly smaller than the realistic SOL, which may lead to an absence of the quasi-neutral region in the upstream plasma.At last, a heuristic method is proposed to calculate the upper bound of the total current strength. 展开更多

Density fluctuation levels △nrms/n decrease by more than a factor of five. The ion flow velocity profile is measured spectroscopically from the Doppler shift of an argon ion line. The top resistive biasing has more benefit with the feature of phase noise than MOS current source since it can support the low-noise characteristics and large output swing. The LC-VCO designed in 130-nm CMOS process with 0.7-V supply voltage achieves phase noise of -116 dBc/Hz at 200 kHz offset with tuning range of 398 MHz to 408 MHz covering medical implant communication service (MICS) band. 展开更多

For dealing with the resonance fault of ultra-high voltage transformers(UHVTs)with the parallel thyristor controlled reactor(TCR)+the filter compensator(FC)type static var compensator(SVC)caused by dc magnetic biasing,a simulation model of UHVT with parallel SVC for the frequency analysis of the impedance characteristics and a magnetic-field coupling model for UHVT based on classic Jiles-Atherton hysteresis theories are constructed based on the MATLAB/Simulink platform.Both the theoretical and simulation results prove that the resonance fault is caused by the resonance point on the low-voltage side of the transformer,which will approach the 4th harmonic point under magnetic biasing.Based on the fault analysis,a new resonance control method is proposed by adding reactance with by-pass switches in series with FC branches.Under dc magnetic biasing,the cutoff of the by-pass switch will increase the series reactance rate of the FC branches and change the resonance point.In order to avoid the 7th harmonic increasement caused by this method,the firing angle of the TCR branches is locked between 130°and 180°.The effect of the proposed method is validated by the simulation model of a 750 kV UHVT and the results show that the mechanism analysis of the resonance fault is correct and the resonance control method is valid. 展开更多

The propagation of an elastic wave(EW)in a piezoelectric semiconductor(PSC)subjected to static biasing fields is investigated.It is found that there exist two coupling waves between electric field and charge carriers.One is stimulated by the action of the polarized electric field in the EW-front on charge carriers(EFC),and the other is stimulated by the action of initial electric field in biasing fields on dynamic carriers(IEC).Obviously,the latter is a man-made and tunable wave-carrier interaction.A careful study shows that IEC can play a leading role in remaking dynamic performance of the wave-front and an inter-medium role in transferring energy from biasing fields to EW-fronts.Hence,a method is proposed to reform the EW performance by biasing-fields:reforming the dispersivity of EW-fronts by promoting competition between IEC and EFC and inverting the dissipation by the IEC to transfer energy from biasing fields to EWfronts.The corresponding tuning laws on the phase-frequency characteristics of an EW show that the wave velocity can be regulated smaller than the pure EW velocity at a lowfrequency and larger than the pure piezoelectric wave velocity at a high-frequency.As for regulating the amplitude-frequency characteristics of the EW by the IEC,analyses show that EWs can obtain amplification only for those with relatively high vibration frequencies(small wave lengths).The studies will provide guidance for theoretical analysis of waves propagating in PSCs and practical application and design of piezotronic devices. 展开更多

Terahertz (THz) direct detectors based on superconducting niobium nitride (NbN) hot electron bolometers (HEBs) with microwave (MW) biasing are studied. The MW is used to bias the HEB to the optimum point and to readout the impedance changes caused by the incident THz signals. Compared with the thermal biasing method, this method would be more promising in large scale array with simple readout. The used NbN HEB has an excellent performance as heterodyne detector with the double sideband noise temperature (T N) of 403K working at 4.2K and 0.65THz. As a result, the noise equivalent power of 1.5pW/Hz 1/2 and the response time of 64ps are obtained for the direct detectors based on the NbN HEBs and working at 4.2K and 0.65THz. 展开更多

Based on the single biasing electrode experiments to optimize the confinement of plasma in the device of KT-5C tokamak, dual-biasing electrodes were inserted into the KT5C plasma for the first time to explore the enhancing effects of biasing and the mechanisms of the biasing. By means of applying different combinations of biasing voltages onto the dual electrodes, the changes of Er, which are the key factor for boosting up the Er × B flow shear, were observed. The time evolution showed that the inner electrode played a major role in dual-biasing, which drew larger current than the outer one. The outer electrode produced little influence. It turned out that the dual-biasing electrodes were as effective as a single one in improving the plasma confinement, for the mechanism of biasing was essentially an edge effect. 展开更多

Direct Monte Carlo(MC) simulation is a powerful probabilistic safety assessment method for accounting dynamics of the system.But it is not efficient at simulating rare events.A biasing transition rate method based on direct MC simulation is proposed to solve the problem in this paper.This method biases transition rates of the components by adding virtual components to them in series to increase the occurrence probability of the rare event,hence the decrease in the variance of MC estimator.Several cases are used to benchmark this method.The results show that the method is effective at modeling system failure and is more efficient at collecting evidence of rare events than the direct MC simulation.The performance is greatly improved by the biasing transition rate method. 展开更多

Assessment of the Southern Ocean Sea Surface Temperature Biases in CMIP5 and CMIP6 Models

This work evaluates the performances of climate models in simulating the Southern Ocean(SO)sea surface temperature(SST)by a large ensemble from phases 5 and 6 of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project(CMIP5 and CMIP6).By combining models from the same community sharing highly similar SO SST biases and eliminating the effect of global-mean biases on local SST biases,the results reveal that the ensemble-mean SO SST bias at 70°-30°S decreases from 0.38℃ in CMIP5 to 0.28℃ in CMIP6,together with increased intermodel consistency.The dominant mode of the intermodel variations in the zonal-mean SST biases is characterized as a meridional uniform warm bias pattern,explaining 79.1% of the intermodel variance and exhibiting positive principal values for most models.The ocean mixed layer heat budget further demonstrates that the SST biases at 70°-50°S primarily result from the excessive summertime heating effect from surface net heat flux.The biases in surface net heat flux south of 50°S are largely impacted by surface shortwave radiation from cloud and clear sky components at different latitudes.North of 50°S,the underestimated westerlies reduce the northward Ekman transport and hence northward cold advection in models,leading to warm SST biases year-round.In addition,the westerly biases are primarily traced back to the atmosphere-alone model simulations forced by the observed SST and sea ice.These results disclose the thermal origin at the high latitude and dynamical origin at the low latitude of the SO SST biases and underscore the significance of the deficiencies of atmospheric models in producing the SO SST biases. 展开更多

Global energy and environmental issues are becoming increasingly problematic,and the vibration and noise problem of 110 kV transformers,which are the most widely distributed,have attracted widespread attention from both inside and outside the industry.DC bias is one of the main contributing factors to vibration noise during the normal operation of transformers.To clarify the vibration and noise mechanism of a 110 kV transformer under a DC bias,a multi-field coupling model of a 110 kV transformer was established using the finite element method.The electromagnetic,vibration,and noise characteristics during the DC bias process were compared and quantified through field circuit coupling in parallel with the power frequency of AC,harmonic,and DC power sources.It was found that a DC bias can cause significant distortions in the magnetic flux density,force,and displacement distributions of the core and winding.The contributions of the DC bias effect to the core and winding are different at Kdc=0.85.At this point,the core approached saturation,and the increase in the core force and displacement slowed.However,the saturation of the core increased the leakage flux,and the stress and displacement of the winding increased faster.The sound field distribution characteristics of the 110 kV transformer under a DC bias are related to the force characteristics.When the DC bias coefficient was 1.25,the noise sound pressure level reached 73.6 dB. 展开更多

Remotely sensed data are frequently used for predicting and mapping ecosystem characteristics,and spatially explicit wall-to-wall information is sometimes proposed as the best possible source of information for decisionmaking.However,wall-to-wall information typically relies on model-based prediction,and several features of model-based prediction should be understood before extensively relying on this type of information.One such feature is that model-based predictors can be considered both unbiased and biased at the same time,which has important implications in several areas of application.In this discussion paper,we first describe the conventional model-unbiasedness paradigm that underpins most prediction techniques using remotely sensed(or other)auxiliary data.From this point of view,model-based predictors are typically unbiased.Secondly,we show that for specific domains,identified based on their true values,the same model-based predictors can be considered biased,and sometimes severely so.We suggest distinguishing between conventional model-bias,defined in the statistical literature as the difference between the expected value of a predictor and the expected value of the quantity being predicted,and design-bias of model-based estimators,defined as the difference between the expected value of a model-based estimator and the true value of the quantity being predicted.We show that model-based estimators(or predictors)are typically design-biased,and that there is a trend in the design-bias from overestimating small true values to underestimating large true values.Further,we give examples of applications where this is important to acknowledge and to potentially make adjustments to correct for the design-bias trend.We argue that relying entirely on conventional model-unbiasedness may lead to mistakes in several areas of application that use predictions from remotely sensed data. 展开更多

Photocurrent-voltage characterization is a crucial method for assessing key parameters in x-ray or y-ray semiconductor detectors,especially the carrier mobility lifetime product.However,the high biases during photocurrent measurements tend to cause severe ion migration,which can lead to the instability and inaccuracy of the test results.Given the mixed electronic-ionic charac teristics,it is imperative to devise novel methods capable of precisely measuring photocurrentvoltage characteristics under high bias conditions,free from interference caused by ion migration.In this paper,pulsed bias is employed to explore the photocurrent-voltage characteristics of MAPbBr_(3) single crystals.The method yields stable photocurrent-voltage characteristics at a pulsed bias of up to 30 V,proving to be effective in mitigating ion migration.Through fitting the modified Hecht equation,we determined the mobility lifetime products of 1.0×10^(2) cm^(2)·V^(-1)for hole and 2.78×10~(-3)cm^(2)·V^(-1)for electron.This approach offers a promising solution for accurately measuring the transport properties of carriers in perovskite. 展开更多

News media profiling is helpful in preventing the spread of fake news at the source and maintaining a good media and news ecosystem.Most previous works only extract features and evaluate media from one dimension independently,ignoring the interconnections between different aspects.This paper proposes a novel news media bias and factuality profiling framework assisted by correlated features.This framework models the relationship and interaction between media bias and factuality,utilizing this relationship to assist in the prediction of profiling results.Our approach extracts features independently while aligning and fusing them through recursive convolu-tion and attention mechanisms,thus harnessing multi-scale interactive information across different dimensions and levels.This method improves the effectiveness of news media evaluation.Experimental results indicate that our proposed framework significantly outperforms existing methods,achieving the best performance in Accuracy and F1 score,improving by at least 1%compared to other methods.This paper further analyzes and discusses based on the experimental results. 展开更多

Antiferromagnet(AFM)/ferromagnet(FM)heterostructure is a popular system for studying the spin–orbit torque(SOT)of AFMs.However,the interfacial exchange bias field induces that the magnetization in FM layer is noncollinear to the external magnetic field,namely the magnetic moment drag effect,which further influences the characteristic of SOT efficiency.In this work,we study the SOT efficiencies of IrMn/NiFe bilayers with strong interfacial exchange bias by using spin-torque ferromagnetic resonance(ST-FMR)method.A full analysis on the AFM/FM systems with exchange bias is performed,and the angular dependence of magnetization on external magnetic field is determined through the minimum rule of free energy.The ST-FMR results can be well fitted by this model.We obtained the relative accurate SOT efficiencyξ_(DL)=0.058 for the IrMn film.This work provides a useful method to analyze the angular dependence of ST-FMR results and facilitates the accurate measurement of SOT efficiency for the AFM/FM heterostructures with strong exchange bias. 展开更多

The inward particle transport is associated with the formation of peaked density profiles,which contributes to improve the fusion rate and the realization of steady-state discharge.The active control of inward particle transport is considered as one of the most critical issues of magnetic confinement fusion.Recently,it is realized preliminarily by adding a biased endplate in the Peking University Plasma Test(PPT)device.The results reveal that the inward particle flux increases with the bias voltage of the endplate.It is also found that the profile of radial electric field(Er)shear is flattened by the increased bias voltage.Radial velocity fluctuations affect the inward particle more than density fluctuations,and the frequency of the dominant mode driving inward particle flux increases with the biased voltage applied to the endplate.The experimental results in the PPT device provide a method to actively control the inward particle flux using a biased endplate and enrich the understanding of the relationship between E_(r)×B shear and turbulence transport. 展开更多
