Due to the novel applications of flexible pipes conveying fluid in the field of soft robotics and biomedicine, the investigations on the mechanical responses of the pipes have attracted considerable attention. The fluid-structure interaction(FSI)between the pipe with a curved shape and the time-varying internal fluid flow brings a great challenge to the revelation of the dynamical behaviors of flexible pipes, especially when the pipe is highly flexible and usually undergoes large deformations. In this work, the geometrically exact model(GEM)for a curved cantilevered pipe conveying pulsating fluid is developed based on the extended Hamilton's principle. The stability of the curved pipe with three different subtended angles is examined with the consideration of steady fluid flow.Specific attention is concentrated on the large-deformation resonance of circular pipes conveying pulsating fluid, which is often encountered in practical engineering.By constructing bifurcation diagrams, oscillating shapes, phase portraits, time traces, and Poincarémaps, the dynamic responses of the curved pipe under various system parameters are revealed. The mean flow velocity of the pulsating fluid is chosen to be either subcritical or supercritical. The numerical results show that the curved pipe conveying pulsating fluid can exhibit rich dynamical behaviors, including periodic and quasi-periodic motions. It is also found that the preferred instability type of a cantilevered curved pipe conveying steady fluid is mainly in the flutter of the second mode. For a moderate value of the mass ratio, however,a third-mode flutter may occur, which is quite different from that of a straight pipe system. 展开更多

The Kuqa fold-and-thrust belt exhibits apparent structural variation in the western and eastern zone. Two salt layer act as effective decollements and influence the varied deformation. In this study, detailed seismic interpretations and analog modeling are presented to construct the suprasalt and subsalt structures in the transfer zone of the middle Kuqa and investigate the influence of the two salt layers. The results reveal that the relationship of the two salt layers changes from separated to connected, and then overlapped toward the foreland in the transfer zone.Different structural models are formed in the suprasalt and subsalt units due to the interaction of the two salt layers. The imbricate thrust faults form two broom-like fault systems in the subsalt units. The suprasalt units develop detached folds terminating toward the east in the region near the orogenic belt.Whereas, two offset anticlines with different trends develop at the frontal edge of the lower salt layer and the trailing edge of the upper salt layer, respectively.According to exploration results in this region, the relationship between suprasalt and subsalt structures has an influence on hydrocarbon accumulation. We believe that the connected deformation contains high-risk plays while the decoupled deformation contains well-preserved plays. 展开更多

Extensions of Merton’s model(EMM)considering the firm’s payments and generating new types of firm value distribution are suggested. In the open log-value/time space, these distributions evolve from initially normal to negatively skewed ones, and their means are concave-down functions of time. When payments are set to zero or proportional to the firm value,EMM turns into the Geometric Brownian model(GBM).We show that risk-neutral probabilities(RNPs)and the no-arbitraging principle(NAP)follow from GBM.When firm’s payments are considered,RNPs and NAP hold for the entire market for short times only, but for long-term investments,RNPs and NAP just temporarily hold for individual stocks as far as mean year returns of the firms issuing those stocks remain constant, and fail when the mean year returns decline. The developed method is applied to firm valuation to derive continuous-time equations for the firm present value and project NPV. 展开更多

The noise robustness and parameter estimation performance of the classical three-dimensional estimating signal parameter via rotational invariance techniques(3D-ESPRIT)algorithm are poor when the parameters of the geometric theory of the diffraction(GTD)model are estimated at low signal-to-noise ratio(SNR).To solve this problem,a modified 3D-ESPRIT algorithm is proposed. The modified algorithm improves the parameter estimation accuracy by proposing a novel spatial smoothing technique.Firstly,we make cross-correlation of the auto-correlation matrices;then by averaging the cross-correlation matrices of the forward and backward spatial smoothing,we can obtain a novel equivalent spatial smoothing matrix. The formula of the modified algorithm is derived and the performance of this improved method is also analyzed. Then we compare root-meansquare-errors(RMSEs)of different parameters and the locating accuracy obtained by different algorithms.Furthermore, radar cross section(RCS)of radar targets is extrapolated.Simulation results verify the effectiveness and superiority of the modified 3DESPRIT algorithm. 展开更多

In this paper,we propose a stochastic channel model in three-dimensional(3D)space for multiple input multiple output(MIMO)vehicle-to-vehicle(V2V)communications in dense urban environments. The movement of the mobile transmitter and mobile receiver results in the V2V channel model behave temporal non-stationarity.Therefore,the time-varying parameters of the propagation paths and angles are derived to characterize such property.Using this channel model,we investigate the propagation characteristics of V2V channels in terms of the road section and moving time/directions/speeds of the transmitter and receiver.Numerical results show that the theoretical results of the propagation characteristics of the V2V channel model are very close to those of the simulation ones, which show that the proposed channel model is suitable for depicting the V2V communications in dense urban scenarios. 展开更多

The hydrologic and hydraulic changings on the behavior of Mono river are the result of the stress involved by human activities, on one hand and the construction of the dam of Nangbéto and the exploitation of sand in downstream of the dam by the population, between Athiémé and Agbanankin on other hand. That effect had also affected the shape of the sections of the river in the context of climate variability. It shows consequently that area is also a trapping area of sediments eroded in downstream of the dam and is responsible for the trapping of sediments in the river. The slope and the flow rate are the main factors of the real capacity of transport of a watercourse. They also determine the transport of solid flows from upstream to downstream. This drawing model established by taking into account the bathymetry of a transversal section of the Mono river at Athiémé, is the first step of a global investigation of the solid flow transport in the basin of Mono river and the boundary condition for the characterization of its hydro-sedimentary dynamics study. It aims to take into account sections and the used technique which consist to measure on one located section as the representative section of the river at Athiémé, by moving the boat used for bathymetry. 展开更多

Hybrid models derived from rotational solids like cylinders, cones and spheres were implemented on CATIA software.Firstly, make the isosceles triangular prism, cuboid, cylinder, cone, sphere, and the prism with tangent conic and curved triangle ends, the cuboid with tangent cylindrical and curved rectangle ends, the cylinder with tangent spherical and curved circular ends as the basic Boolean deference units to the primary cylinders, cones and spheres on symmetrical and some critical geometric conditions, forming a series of variant solid models.Secondly, make the deference units above as the basic union units to the main cylinders, cones, and spheres accordingly, forming another set of solid models.Thirdly, make the tangent ends of union units into oblique conic, cylindrical,or with revolved triangular pyramid, quarterly cylinder and annulus ends on sketch based features to the main cylinders, cones, and spheres repeatedly, thus forming still another set of solid models. It is expected that these derivative models be beneficial both in the structure design, hybrid modeling, and finite element analysis of engineering components and in comprehensive training of spatial configuration of engineering graphics. 展开更多

An efficient and real-time simulation method is proposed for the dynamic electromagnetic characteristics of cluster targets to meet the requirements of engineering practical applications.First, the coordinate transformation method is used to establish a geometric model of the observation scene, which is described by the azimuth angles and elevation angles of the radar in the target reference frame and the attitude angles of the target in the radar reference frame. Then,an approach for dynamic electromagnetic scattering simulation is proposed. Finally,a fast-computing method based on sparsity in the time domain, space domain, and frequency domain is proposed. The method analyzes the sparsity-based dynamic scattering characteristic of the typical cluster targets. The error between the sparsity-based method and the benchmark is small, proving the effectiveness of the proposed method. 展开更多

The compression performance of a degradable ureteral stent is analyzed and the parameters are optimized by a finite element modeling method. The degradable ureteral stent explored in this paper is developed from poly(glycolic acid)(PGA)and poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)(PLGA)degradable materials.Based on the actual measurement of fabric structure parameters, the three-dimensional model of the stent is established with the help of the modeling software. The finite element analysis software is used to simulate the compression process of the degradable ureteral stent. The parameters of materials, interactions and boundary conditions are set according to the compression environment of the stent for modeling and simulation. On this basis, the friction coefficient of yarns, the yarn radius, and the braided angle of the stent are further compared. The comparison test is carried out by a single variable. The experimental results show that the change of yarn friction coefficient has little influence on the compressive stress, while the yarn radius and the braided angle of the stent have a great influence on the compressive stress. 展开更多

We have shown that classic works of Modigliani and Miller, Black and Scholes, Merton, Black and Cox, and Leland making the foundation of the modern asset pricing theory, are wrong due to misinterpretation of no arbitrage as the martingale no-arbitrage principle. This error explains appearance of the geometric Brownian model (GBM) for description of the firm value and other long-term assets considering the firm and its assets as self-financing portfolios with symmetric return distributions. It contradicts the empirical observations that returns on firms, stocks, and bonds are skewed. On the other side, the settings of the asset valuation problems, taking into account the default line and business securing expenses, BSEs, generate skewed return distributions for the firm and its securities. The Extended Merton model (EMM), taking into account BSEs and the default line, shows that the no-arbitrage principle should be understood as the non-martingale no arbitrage, when for sufficiently long periods both the predictable part of returns and the mean of the stochastic part of returns occur negative, and the value of the return deficit depends on time and the states of the firm and market. The EMM findings explain the problems with the S&P 500 VIX, the strange behavior of variance and skewness of stock returns before and after the crisis of 1987, etc. 展开更多

Let A=kQ/I be a finite-dimensional basic algebra over an algebraically closed field k,which is a gentle algebra with the marked ribbon surface(SA,MA,ΓA).It is known that SAcan be divided into some elementary polygons{Δi|1≤i≤d}byΓA,which has exactly one side in the boundary of SA.Let■(Δi)be the number of sides ofΔibelonging toΓAif the unmarked boundary component of SAis not a side ofΔi;otherwise,■(Δi)=∞,and let f-Δbe the set of all the non-co-elementary polygons and FA(resp.f-FA)be the set of all the forbidden threads(resp.of finite length). Then we have(1)the global dimension of A is max1≤i≤d■(Δi)-1=maxΠ∈FAl(Π),where l(Π)is the length ofΠ;(2)the left and right self-injective dimensions of A are 0,if Q is either a point or an oriented cycle with full relations.masΔi∈f-Δ{1,■(Δi)-1}=max n∈f-F_(A)l(П),otherwise,As a consequence,we get that the finiteness of the global dimension of gentle algebras is invariant under AvellaGeiss(AG)-equivalence.In addition,we get that the number of indecomposable non-projective Gorenstein projective modules over gentle algebras is also invariant under AG-equivalence. 展开更多

X-Ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS) on the carbon K edge of carbon nanostructures (nanotubes, nanofibers, nanowalls) is reported here. They are grown on plain SiO2 (8 nm thick)/Si(100) substrates by a Plasma and Hot Filaments-enhanced Catalytic Chemical Vapor Deposition (PE HF CCVD) process. The morphology and the nature of these carbon nanostructures are characterized by SEM, TEM and Raman spectroscopy. According to conditions of catalyst preparation and DC HF CCVD process, carbon nanotubes (CNTs), carbon nanofibers (CNFs), carbon nanowalls (CNWs), carbon nanoparticles (CNPs) with different orientation of the graphene plans or shells can be prepared. From the angular dependence of the incident light and geometrical morphology of the nanostructures, wide variations of the C K-edge intensity of the transitions to the empty π* and σ* states occur. A full lineshape analysis of the XAS spectra has been carried out using a home-made software, allowing estimating the relative proportion of π* and σ* transitions. A geometrical model of the angular dependence with the incidence angle of the light and the morphology of the carbon nanostructures is derived. With normalization to the HOPG (Highly Oriented Pyrolytic Graphite graphite) reference case, a degree of alignment can be extracted which is representative of the localized orientation of the graphitic carbon π bonds, accounting not only for the overall orientation, but also for local defects like impurities incorporation, structural defects ... This degree of alignment shows good agreement with SEM observations. Thus CNTs films display degrees of alignment around 50%, depending on the occurrence of defects in the course of the growth, whereas no special alignment can be detected with CNFs and CNPs, and a weak one (about 20%) is detected on CNWs. 展开更多

To efficiently link the continuum mechanics for rocks with the structural statistics of rock masses,a theoretical and methodological system called the statistical mechanics of rock masses(SMRM)was developed in the past three decades. In SMRM,equivalent continuum models of stressestrain relationship, strength and failure probability for jointed rock masses were established, which were based on the geometric probability models characterising the rock mass structure. This follows the statistical physics, the continuum mechanics, the fracture mechanics and the weakest link hypothesis.A general constitutive model and complete stressestrain models under compressive and shear conditions were also developed as the derivatives of the SMRM theory. An SMRM calculation system was then developed to provide fast and precise solutions for parameter estimations of rock masses, such as full-direction rock quality designation(RQD),elastic modulus,Coulomb compressive strength, rock mass quality rating, and Poisson’s ratio and shear strength. The constitutive equations involved in SMRM were integrated into a FLAC3D based numerical module to apply for engineering rock masses. It is also capable of analysing the complete deformation of rock masses and active reinforcement of engineering rock masses.Examples of engineering applications of SMRM were presented, including a rock mass at QBT hydropower station in northwestern China,a dam slope of Zongo II hydropower station in D.R.Congo,an open-pit mine in Dexing,China,an underground powerhouse of Jinping I hydropower station in southwestern China, and a typical circular tunnel in Lanzhou-Chongqing railway,China. These applications verified the reliability of the SMRM and demonstrated its applicability to broad engineering issues associated with jointed rock masses. 展开更多

The existing research results of virtual modeling of rice plant, however, is far from perfect compared to that of other crops due to its complex structure and growth process. Techniques to visually simulate the architecture of rice plant and its growth process are presented based on the analysis of the morphological characteristics at different stages. Firstly, the simulations of geometrical shape, the bending status and the structural distortion of rice leaves are conducted. Then, by using an improved model for bending deformation, the curved patterns of panicle axis and various types of panicle branches are generated, and the spatial shape of rice panicle is therefore created. Parametric L-system is employed to generate its topological structures, and finite-state automaton is adopted to describe the development of geometrical structures. Finally, the computer visualization of three-dimensional morphologies of rice plant at both organ and individual levels is achieved. The experimental results showed that the proposed methods of modeling the three-dimensional shapes of organs and simulating the growth of rice plant are feasible and effective, and the generated three-dimensional images are realistic. 展开更多

We have shown that three classic works considering the effects of corporate debt on the firm value, namely,Modigliani and Miller(1958,1963),Merton(1974),and Leland(1994),are wrong.Their main mistake is ignoring the business security expenses,BSEs.We suggest the model taking account of BSEs and apply it to the analysis of debt influence on the firm value and survival. Our modeling demonstrates that(1)the debt affects the firm value and its survival,(2)this influence is negative, diminishing the firm value and its chances to survive,(3)the pressure of the negative effect of debt increases as the debt grows, provoking the firm default. The debt can be beneficial for the firm if the loan is taken to improve its technology. The model helps estimate the chances to succeed in the technological modernization for various parameters of the firm and its business environment;and by that,to find the technology most suitable for the firm.It is shown that there is a serious problem in reading the market signals concerning a firm and using this information to control this firm. 展开更多

Directional wave spectra and integrated wave parameters can be derived from X-band radar sea surface images.A vessel on the sea surface has a significant influence on wave parameter inversions that can be seen as intensive backscatter speckles in X-band wave monitoring radar sea surface images.A novel algorithm to eliminate the interference of vessels in ocean wave height inversions from X-band wave monitoring radar is proposed. This algorithm is based on the characteristics of the interference. The principal components(PCs) of a sea surface image sequence are extracted using empirical orthogonal function(EOF)analysis. The standard deviation of the PCs is then used to identify vessel interference within the image sequence. To mitigate the interference,a suppression method based on a frequency domain geometric model is applied. The algorithm framework has been applied to OSMAR-X,a wave monitoring system developed by Wuhan University, based on nautical X-band radar.Several sea surface images captured on vessels by OSMAR-X are processed using the method proposed in this paper.Inversion schemes are validated by comparisons with data from in situ wave buoys. The root-mean-square error between the significant wave heights(SWH) retrieved from original interference radar images and those measured by the buoy is reduced by 0.25 m.The determinations of surface gravity wave parameters,in particular SWH,confirm the applicability of the proposed method. 展开更多

As a state-of-the-art mapping technology, mobile laser scanning(MLS)is increasingly applied to fields such as digital presentations of city environments. However, its application has recently met a bottleneck in data processing. It has been found that conventional methods for geometrically modeling 3D scattered points are inadequate when dealing with large volumes of MLS data.In fact, this is a challenge that has already been noted in the MLS-relevant fields,e.g.remote sensing, robot perception, and pattern recognition.A variety of algorithms under the schematic frame of analysis, modeling and synthesis(AMS)have been developed in these fields. The AMS paradigm is to first extract the implicit geometric primitives within each scan profile by geometrically modeling its 2D scattered points(GM2P).The resultant 2D geometric primitives are then integrated to restore the real 3D geometrical models. In this process,GM2P is a kernel procedure whereby a review of the GM2P algorithms is assumed to be of significance for developing new efficient algorithms for geometrically modeling 3D scattered points. This idea is supported by MLS sampling often being executed via parallel scan profiles.Indeed, the results of the literature review indicate an avenue for methodologically improving MLS in data processing. 展开更多

The technology of 3D geological modeling will bring about great changes in the methods of geological data acquiring, storing, processing and displaying. However, no perfect or convenient software systems have been developed up to now since the geologic data which re-flect geological entities bear the feature of diversity, uncertainty and complexity. Some supervoxel models, mathematical models of fault and geometrical models of fold have been contrived so as to show the space geometric configuration of the complicated geologic structures. The application-oriented system architecture for 3D geological modeling is established; and a novel design concept based on spatial data processing is also proposed with the technology of solid modeling as its core and the application of models as its objective. Theories and methods for 3D geological modeling will hopefully be enriched and developed. In the light of these theories and methods, a feature-based navigation visualization technique is also put forward in the paper. By integrating geo-database, graphics libraries and KBS with 3D dynamic simulation systems, geologists will be able to capture the partial characteristics and whole structure embodied in the geological data in a direct-viewing, figurative and accurate manner. 展开更多
