[ Objective] To study the germination characteristics of Hordeum brevisubulatum seeds in the Songnen Plains of China under different conditions and find out the optimum conditions for germination. [ Method] A total of five variable temperatures including 15/25, 20/30, 15/30, 20/25 and 15/20 ℃, five concentrations of sodium chloride solutions including 0, 75, 85, 95 and 105 mmol/L, and five concentrations of CS2 strain (the A values were 0, 0.500 0, 0.050 0, 0.005 0 and 0.000 5, respectively) were studied by orthogonal experimental design. [ Result] The germination rate, germination energy and germination index were significantly ( P 〈 0.05) affected by the temperature and sodium chloride concentration, but rarely affected by the CS2 strain concentration. Moreover, the germination rate, germination potential and germination index were all decreased with the increasing of sodium chloride concentration. [ Conclusion] The optimal germination conditions of Hordeum brevisubulatum are as follows: temperatures of 15/25 ℃ and 15/30℃, 0 mmoVL of sodium chloride concentration. 展开更多

Grain germination is a process involving numerous factors that influence the biochemical processes inside the plant cells. This review covered the abiotic factors that lead to the germination and significantly impact the nutritional properties and digestion behavior of rice grains. The macro-and micro-nutrients can be changed depending on the intensity of the applied variables during germination. For instance, germination time can increase the protein content in the grain and concurrently reduce its protein digestibility. In most cases, the number of bioactive compounds present in rice grains are increased regardless of germination conditions.Germination can promote the complexation of nutrients and thus negatively interfere with the digestibility of macronutrients. This review highlighted the influence of the germination process on the nutritional quality of rice grains, providing information about the germination conditions and their impacts on the anabolic and catabolic reactions of the grain, emphasizing the health benefits. 展开更多

Introduction:In order to solve the problems related to deforestation and meet the ever increasing demands of the growing population, conserving and wise utilization of the remaining forests and supporting it with additional tree planting are crucial.Proper understanding of efficient management technique including seed sowing methods for target species is vital.Research reports and other information on proper positioning of micropyles in field conditions are lacking for Millettia ferruginea(Hochst.)Baker and Delonix regia(Bojer ex Hook.).This study was initiated to assess variations in germination characteristics of seeds sown at different orientations with respect to the micropyle position and to identify the sowing position that gives the best seed germination outcomes for those tree species when measured by selected parameters. Results:Sowing position where the micropyle of the seed was directed downward has shown the best result with regard to speed of germination, mean germination time, mean daily germination, peak value, germination value, and germination percents for both tree species and was significant for D.regia.Conclusions:It is essential to consider the effects of different sowing positions in achieving production targets with good quality seedlings. The seeds of D.regia should be sown in nurseries carefully by positioning its micropyle downward. Moreover, seeds sown with the micropyle positioned upward showed the least results in terms of germination for both tree species(significant in D.regia). 展开更多
