In a country going through one of the biggest industrial revolutions known to man. things happen so quickly that the ones who just watch it go by get lost alongthe wayside. One thing I have learnt during my four and a half years in China is to get involved, no matter what it is - a conversation at the local shop, a game of Frisbee in the park, a football club. a roadside game of Chinese chess, an invitation from some locals for dinner, a hike through the mountains on the edge of the city - any activi- ties like these will break up those predictable daily routines and allow you to participate, and feel good about it.展开更多

In an earlier paper (Tien 2012), the author augurs that, in contrast to the first and second industrial revolutions which respectively focused on the development and the mass production of goods, the next - or third...In an earlier paper (Tien 2012), the author augurs that, in contrast to the first and second industrial revolutions which respectively focused on the development and the mass production of goods, the next - or third - industrial revolution is focused on the integration of services and/or goods; it began in this second decade of the 21st Century. The Third Industrial Revolution (TIR) is underpinned by the integration or mass customization of services and/or goods. The benefits of real-time mass customization cannot be over-stated as goods and services become indistinguishable and are co-produced as "ServGoods", resulting in an overwhelming economic advantage to the industrialized countries where the consuming customers are at the same time the co-producing producers. Adding sensors to these ServGoods and letting them connect or communicate among themselves or with other ServGoods can result in an Intemet of Things (i.e., connected ServGoods). A number of considerations, consequences and concerns relating to such an Intemet of Connected ServGoods are discussed herein.展开更多
With the rapid growth in the availability of digital health-related data,there is a great demand for the utilization of intelligent information systems within the healthcare sector.These systems can manage and manipul...With the rapid growth in the availability of digital health-related data,there is a great demand for the utilization of intelligent information systems within the healthcare sector.These systems can manage and manipulate this massive amount of health-related data and encourage different decision-making tasks.They can also provide various sustainable health services such as medical error reduction,diagnosis acceleration,and clinical services quality improvement.The intensive care unit(ICU)is one of the most important hospital units.However,there are limited rooms and resources in most hospitals.During times of seasonal diseases and pandemics,ICUs face high admission demand.In line with this increasing number of admissions,determining health risk levels has become an essential and imperative task.It creates a heightened demand for the implementation of an expert decision support system,enabling doctors to accurately and swiftly determine the risk level of patients.Therefore,this study proposes a fuzzy logic inference system built on domain-specific knowledge graphs,as a proof-of-concept,for tackling this healthcare-related issue.The system employs a combination of two sets of fuzzy input parameters to classify health risk levels of new admissions to hospitals.The proposed system implemented utilizes MATLAB Fuzzy Logic Toolbox via several experiments showing the validity of the proposed system.展开更多
In many study fields,scholars have extensively explored the linear relationships between variables.But some recent studies have shown that the linear models sometimes fail to reflect true relationships between variabl...In many study fields,scholars have extensively explored the linear relationships between variables.But some recent studies have shown that the linear models sometimes fail to reflect true relationships between variables and often misguide practice.Therefore,scholars strongly advocate exploring the curvilinear relationships between variables.Drawing on previous studies and the principles of mathematical statistics,this paper combines the linear relationship and the curvilinear relationship and divides the curvilinear relationship into four categories according to the quadratic coefficient of the quadratic curve and the coefficient of the linear model.Meanwhile,according to their characteristics in the economic and management practice,this study names these four types of curvilinear relationships as Gradually Getting Better effect,Too Much of a Good Thing effect,A Little Bad Thing effect or Catfish effect,and Prolonged Illness Makes the Patient a Good Doctor effect,respectively.Then these four types of curvilinear effects are discussed from four aspects in this paper:data analysis methods,theoretical connotation,application examples and theoretical explanation.Finally,the application of these curvilinear effects in future research is outlooked.展开更多
